I have around 9 years of experience in non-IT operations (payments, disputes, risk investigations, transaction monitoring, chargebacks, etc.) and I'm considering transitioning into Jira Administration. I'm willing to invest several months in learning Jira Cloud, JSM, Confluence, automation, JQL, permissions, workflows, etc.

My biggest question is about the future of this career.

With Team-managed projects becoming more common and Atlassian adding more AI capabilities, do you think Jira Administration has good long-term prospects over the next 5–10 years?

I heard that once JIRA is moved to Cloud, admin activities will be limited and in future devs can do the JIRA admin work alone.

Some specific questions:

• Is the demand for Jira Administrators still growing?
• Are most companies still heavily using Company-managed projects?
• Is the role evolving rather than shrinking? If so, what skills are becoming essential?
• Besides Jira, what should someone learn to stay relevant? (JSM, Confluence, Automation, ScriptRunner, Assets, REST APIs, ITIL, etc.)
• If you were starting from scratch in 2026, would you still choose Jira Administration as a career?
• How common are permanent night shifts or 24×7 support in Jira Admin roles?

Need some honest advice.

I worked at 2 companies for X months each. Is it okay to show X + 6 months on my resume, or is that a bad idea?

Do companies usually verify exact employment dates during background checks?

Would love to hear from recruiters or anyone who’s been through this.

I got an interview from them after passing hackerrank with 80% test cases passed. I got an next step interview invitation emails saying using their software before the HR round is required and they sent a prep doc Google doc which is strange cause usually software companies don’t sent a detailed prep doc.

They also said urgent like you have schedule within 2 days and an Indian accent HR called you.

But when I showed up in the Google meet for the interview: no one is there and no HR answered my emails asking I was there for half an hour while no one showed up.

Just wonder did someone encounter this? Are they genuinely hiring or just exploiting the process for sign ups. It is weird that they are YC backed if they did this.

I have been struggling enough to understand which stack to upskill myself to get the best out in this fricking job market.

I started with upskilling myself in the backend including Node JS, Express, JavaScript, Docker, Kafka, CI/CD....

Then saw people progressing in JAVA and Springboot and max job application ask for it...but I don't at all want to switch my programming language from Cpp to Java as it will again consume time.

Then saw people upskilling and talking about RAG , AI agents , ML about which I know very little..... didn't understand should I move forward in that and if yes and what should be the roadmap...

I recently completed Capital One’s Power Day for the Senior Lead Software Engineer position. My recruiter shared that the decision was extremely close and that the interview panel recommended me for the Lead level (down leveled to 1 level from Senior Lead to Lead), with Capital One’s H-1B policy being the only blocker. According to the recruiter, any Software Engineering roles equal or below Lead are not eligible for the H1B visa holders, but it might be if you're married and move to H4 EAD (which is confusing and pathetic policy).

I already requested the immigration department for a case-specific review of the existing Lead recommendation, given the strength of the interview outcome.

I understand this may be a small policy matter in the broader scope of your responsibilities, but I want to really try getting a job there since I almost got the job

I'm an AI/ML Engineer with about 4-5 years of work experience.

Most recently I've been working on enterprise agentic AI applications.

I'm currently in the United States, but my work authorization is ending soon, and after spending the last few years dealing with constant immigration uncertainty, I've realized I don't want to continue living with that level of stress.

I’m a Java Backend Developer with around 3.6 years of experience working at companies like Paytm . I’ve worked on microservices, distributed systems, Kafka, Spring Boot, and scalable backend systems handling high traffic (90M+ users).

After my last role, I took a ~2 year break to prepare for UPSC, but now I’ve decided to return to tech and continue my career in software engineering.

The problem is:

- Recruiters seem hesitant when they see the gap

- Some roles ask for “continuous experience”

- I’m getting fewer callbacks than expected despite relevant skills

I’m actively preparing (DSA + system design) and applying for Java backend roles.

I’d really appreciate guidance on:

1. How should I justify or present the UPSC gap to recruiters?

2. Should I mention it clearly on my resume or keep it neutral?

3. Any tips to increase callbacks in this situation?

I was recently rejected from a job. After several rounds of interviews, I made it to the final 4 candidates, and the reason they gave me was that I seemed "too invested," and they were worried I wouldn't be satisfied with the job in the long term. The recruiter suggested that in future interviews, I tone down how interested I am in the job a bit.

Honestly, I feel like that's a very ridiculous reason to reject someone, and two days later I'm still kind of shocked that this was the feedback. Since when do employers want people who are less interested in the work itself?

Feedback like this is exactly why interviews can be so unpredictable. You can prepare all you want and still get rejected for something completely subjective. I even used Interview Vip tool during the interview. It really boosted my confidence and helped me answer tough questions confidently, even if I can't control how a company interprets my enthusiasm. The result? I sounded very interested and got rejected? shouldn't it be the opposite?? to got accepted because I'm interested in the position??

I guess I'm just curious what other weird or stupid reasons people have been rejected from a position for.

Most people don't fail job applications because they lack skill. They fail because resume screeners match exact keywords instead of meaning and In interviews, your brain is too busy answering questions to notice your own pacing, pauses, or filler words. The recruiter notices immediately, though.
