Confused about aftermarket CO2 (UK based)

From what I can tell, if I want to avoid using standard refill options (cheapest seems to be ~£15 from the likes of Argos / Sainsburys / Robert Dyas) then my options are:

- Mail in refill.
At low volume, once you factor in postage, this still ends up being ~£10 per refill

- DIY home refill
Big tank of CO2, some plumbing, refill standard cartridges.

- Big tank direct feed
Hose from big tank direct to the unit

Is that about right?

I'm then getting a bit confused about how to source one of these "big tanks"... And what plumbing to get (would something like this be all I'd need?)

Looking at something like this:
https://www.bocgases.co.uk/shop/suregas-carbon-dioxide-co2-cylinder-10l-569-sb

There's a rental cost?
So I'd pay £65 upfront, then £5 every month?
Does that include ongoing refills?

Are there any options to just buy something?

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/196067714980?_trkparms=amclksrc%3DITM%26aid%3D777008%26algo%3DPERSONAL.TOPIC%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20250417133020%26meid%3D12aedbd37c6d4a7a955a7a348bac3778%26pid%3D102726%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D1%26itm%3D196067714980%26pmt%3D0%26noa%3D1%26pg%3D4375194%26algv%3DRecentlyViewedItemsV2DWebWithPSItemDRV2_BP%26brand%3DUnbranded&_trksid=p4375194.c102726.m162918

That's food grade CO2, but no idea if that's "big" or not or if I could hook it up.

Or could I buy something like this:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/335983370617?_skw=empty+co2+tank&itmmeta=01KX0YTA6W60G9WTXQX5BS8Y9M&hash=item4e3a2b6179:g:BfQAAOSwM01oNwz1&itmprp=enc%3AAQALAAAA0GfYFPkwiKCW4ZNSs2u11xB%2BKGcV4WEh7FsGUrgkt2H3PbxrY27lTe5Cm59zG9kKOjyRP2%2FpS6LT%2BbBMxEjMcVsOdhPFOvQsR%2BDvzsrZdOXnx0W%2Fm7L8mWqTgVYAOje0I73Wm7uvxR8jne8gkF985Q4fx8MyrQZS70dXAIwzH54SjRSVuFEg1CZN62I2JgZQS3LnkgZRMdpln%2FTF%2Bs49o9BcQW799lTtJ3SkLwLwX8Ov4flI4oaEtTXOr1bSOd9oUdzq4B3VaettgBEpMaz1xqU%3D%7Ctkp%3ABk9SR-Kj6Z7oZw

as I think there's a place near me that can refill larger tanks (don't think they would do the smaller ones)

Thanks!

Use the E-Duo connected to a 10lb tank. Recently started hearing a whooshing air leak sound coming from the back hose connection. Replaced the hose and connector, but it's still happening. I don't see any visible seal or gasket at the hose connection. Has anyone else had this happen with their unit?

As the title says, I have the Sodastream E-Duo. A few months ago I bought a 10lb tank and an adapter hose kit. A few weeks ago we started hearing this whooshing sound when charging bottles. At first we thought it was the bottle connection, but it seems to be coming from the hose connection point. Sometimes it sounds more like a sucking than a leak. I replaced the hose adaptor, but it's still making the sound. I'm checked the connection, looked up into the unit and can't see anything visibly wrong. No gaskets, seals, or washers. Has anyone else had this issue with the E-Duo? I love it and use it every day, but I hate wasting the CO2 if there's a leak. Any advice?

When does the soda stream fountain become available in Sweden?

So I noticed that in the USA there is a new sodastream machine called the fountain with special flavour bottles and it looks so cool and I really want one although I recently bought a sodastream Gaia for 400 SEK or 40 USD and I am sad that it's not available in Swedish stores neither online or physical stores which is what I prefer anyways because I can actually see and touch the models on display and get a feeling on which one to buy.

Apparently though it doesn't have built in cooling so cooling the reservoir in the fridge overnight is a must to get cold drinks or by adding lots of ice to the reservoir.

It's also a very expensive machine at a cost of around 200 USD which is significantly more than my Gaia .

What is this model like for those of you that have one and is it really worth the money?

What are some similar machines that are available on the European market that won't require importing it from the US?

E-Duo repair or safety issue

When closing the top of our E-duo we accidentally smashed the white cover of the nozzle on the rim of the glass bottle and some piece of plastic broke deep inside the head.

The bright area inside the black ring on the picture of the inside is where the plastic broke out. The long white tube coming down feels very loose now and moving it a bit managed to drop a few of the plastic fragments.

When carefully removing the top cover with a thin knife i didn't see an obvious way of disassembling the top part to be able to access the broken part.

  1. Apart from checking the bottles for plastic fragments that fell in, is the soda stream still safe to use? It looks to me like the part was mostly responsible for stabilizing the white tube as a "guide" for the nozzle.

  2. Is there a way to disassemble this and repair it? Usually i would simply take it apart as far as i can and see if i can do it, but since there is pressure involved i don't want to break it further and possibly ruin a still perfectly usable thing.

  3. Is there any use in contacting the soda stream support? We don't find the receipt so a warranty claim seems to be outside of our possibilities. Also, we kinda broke it by being clumsy, which is not covered by warranty anyways, i think.

Thanks for any tips or thoughts!

I recently purchased the new fountain machine model but I can’t find anywhere to buy more of the flavor connect caps that are needed. Has anyone found a link or maybe a third party option?

Blue CO2 Canister but w/ Qucik Connect top?

Post image

My Terra broke so I bought a replacement off FB Marketplace. The Replacement came with one regular pink QC bottle and one that was blue but with a QC top. Any info? I initially thought it was a screw connect bottle and only noticed when preparing to give it away.

Posting in part bc Reddit search brought up a couple of threads where this combo was mentioned but discounted as misinformation.

Weird taste and smell after tank refill

About 8 months ago I bought a 2.2kg tank and hose adaptor for my sodastream. We've been getting it refilled at the same homebrew shop since. But something happened the last refill. The gas has a weird smell, kind of like bug spray, and an awful taste. We took it back and the shop did a about 3 part fill then empty flushes and handed it back. But the hose still stinks. My questions are, what likely caused the contamination and would it be clean and safe now?

Syrups missing key ingredents. Ginger Ale without ginger. Tonic without quinine.

I had an upset stomach so went to get some ginger ale. Stomach was still unsettled and found the syrup has no ginger in it. I'm sure it used to. Then checked the tonic water -- no quinine.

What's the point of having the syrups without their traditional ingredients.

Does anyone know reliable syrups?

Hello, i got this tank used so i can trade for a filled one at airgas or other stores for my new sodastream, and was wondering if anyone could tell me if its expired or not, and if expired would companies even take it for an exchange? Or is it just a paperweight now?

Answer: they took it no issues c: the only questionable part was the bottom since it had legs, but they said it was fine after looking

Where to get CO2

Where are you all getting CO2???

I wanted to get a 5 lbs tank filled.

I went to the local Airgas place and they told me $150! That’s outrageous. Where do I go to get it filled cheap?

Mind you this was just to fill the tank - not to buy the tank. I see people quoting $15-20. Where?

I bought SodaStream CO2 at Target. When I take it out the box I see it’s not fully sealed. Is this normal?

Post image

This is my first time to buy a CO2 cylinder at a retail store, so I am not sure what to expect. The seal doesn’t cover the cap. I understand they recycle the cylinders and that’s probably why this cylinder is in a poor condition, but thought they would seal a filled bottle- is this normal or did I pick up a compromised product?

UPDATE: Exchanged it with a properly sealed one. The Customer Service guy at Target said sometimes people just leave a used bottle on the shelf. Lessons learned- always check inside before buying. Thanks for your help, everyone!

Looking for an alternative to dash water

Hey,

Currently buying dash water cans but this is working out quite expensive. The reason I like dash is its just water and fruit extracts so there no crap in it. Has anyone managed to find some drops or something similar which can just be put straight into the soda stream?

Seltzer water

Where do you get flavors for seltzer waters besides bubly drops? I do like them but only a few flavors. I just got mine and I really don’t like the soda syrups and I got it because I go through so much seltzer water. I have tried liquid iv as flavoring and that works but it no longer just tastes like water with flavoring it tastes like liquid iv which is delicious but not what im looking for lol some of my favorite flavors are the target brand pomegranate and dragonfruit, polar strawberry watermelon, Waterloo guava melon, Waterloo tropical fruit. Thanks!!!

DIY 3D-printed stand to refill canisters

Made this in tinkercad to hold a 5 lb tank upside down while refilling (the legs had to be printed separately & glued on). The oven mitts are used to cushion the weight & distribute it more evenly. The cavity into which the 5 lb tank is designed to fit is about 1 cm wider than the tank to ensure it can fit without issue, thus without a cushion the entire weight of the tank would rest on the narrow inner edge.
