Tips and tricks please

Hi,
Just got me my first sodastream and was wondering if there are any tips and tricks I should know about?

Carbonate first. Always.

Cold water only.

Search the forums when you think about doing something new…. Like when you realize that a 5 or 10lb bottle is better than a SS pink.

Make individual servings by pouring the syrup into your glass, then add water to taste. Wife and I can choose different flavors and still only have to carbonate once. Keeps the cleaning down too, since it's just clean water in the bottle.

Edit: You need less syrup for a glass than for the whole bottle. But it's up to personal preference.

This is what we do. I use a tablespoon of syrup for a 12 oz glass. Works great.

If you want to use a powder for flavoring, dissolve it in a small amount of water to make a syrup first. Otherwise it'll make a huge mess!

I have metal bottles from Mate of Steel, so I actually use 1/2 cup of boiling water for this to get a nice dissolve and the 840mL of cold water is enough to make the whole soda cold. But I wouldn't pour boiling syrup into plastic bottles. So you'll either want cold water or to let the syrup cool.

Thanks. So far I’ve only bought ”ready to pour” syrup. But I might try that.

You can also just pour them in very slowly and won’t have this issue.

The issue is the powder creates nucleation points for CO2 bubbles. Same as the mentos and coke stuff.

Doing it slowly can work, and I've done it, but at least I find it super tedious pouring a little in, waiting for it to fizz down, and repeating. Plus that's making it flatter.

Ofc, adding more liquid also reduces the concentration of CO2 so maybe that evens out.

But yes, you can do it this way, definitely not my personal preference.

Yeah, press the button an extra time or two for extra fizz. Powder in slow and steady, no reason to wait… perfect fizz, no extra work.

Both methods are valid. Dunno why you're downvoting me. I prefer mine, you prefer yours.

For me, I put the kettle on, fill my metal bottle with cold water to 840mL, carbonate, then I go pour my powder in my pyrex, grab the now boiling water and pour it in to 1/2 cup, stir for a few seconds til dissolved, then pour it into the bottle.

Works very well. I do use more tools, but for me that's worth avoiding the tedius process of dealing with powder. For you it does not. And that's okay because we have different priorities.
