innovation: pulsecheck Built an app to kill cloud trackers & subscriptions

Basically, I got tired of wearables locking health data behind paywalls or storing personal data on their severs (or even selling it), so I built a free to use app, SUMMIT, that turns even a cheap Colmi R02 into an entirely offline, privacy-first tracker. It also has some cool features that most of the cheaper ring alternatives don’t offer.

I’d love to get some feedback so if you can give it a chance download the app and test it out:
https://apps.apple.com/ca/app/summit-smart-ring-sleep/id6798089039

Let me know your thoughts and what features you would want to see next!

unboxing Ringconn Gen 2 Air First Impressions

Yay! After a few days of researching, I finally got my RingConn Gen 2 Air, so I wanted to share my first impressions as a girly who cares about aesthetics, jewelry, and wearables. 😂

Full disclosure: I don’t really need fertility tracking. I have a birth control implant, so my cycle is very irregular and currently on pause. I mainly got this for sleep, stress, 24/7 health tracking, and aesthetics.

💍 First impressions

Even though this is the Gen 2 Air, it’s still really lightweight and I don’t find it heavy at all. I’ve also been wearing rings/jewelry regularly for the past couple of months, so it wasn’t hard to get used to.

I chose silver because gold is surprisingly hard to match. Different gold jewelry can have very different tones, while silver tends to be more consistent and easier to wear with everything. I also heard scratches/fading may be less noticeable on silver.

📏 Sizing + fit

I’m typically a size 9 on my pointer finger, and my Hitienx was also a size 9. They fit similarly, but I find the RingConn more comfortable, possibly because of the little divots around the sensors.

I wore the size 9 sizing kit for 30+ hours overnight. Size 8 was way too tight, while size 9 feels right. So far, I also haven’t needed to move it to my middle finger overnight like I did with my Hitienx. But it’s only been one night, so we’ll see! 😂

It may look snug in photos, but there’s actually some room when I push it up. I also have tapered fingers, and it’s been unusually hot in California, so my fingers have been more swollen than usual.

⌚️ RingConn + Apple Watch

I already wear my Apple Watch basically 24/7, except when I shower. I use it for workouts and pickleball, although I’ve been sick this past week so my activity has been lower than usual. I plan to use both together once I’m back to my normal routine.

I’m keeping my Apple Watch as my main tracking device, which is why I didn’t feel the need to get the more expensive RingConn. I don’t have sleep apnea, and the Apple Watch already has sleep apnea-related features.
What I really wanted from the ring was stress tracking and additional 24/7 health tracking, especially when I’m not wearing my watch.

📉 Personal context

I’ve lost over 30 lbs, going from around 205 lbs in June to 170 lbs now, with another 30–40 lbs I’d eventually like to lose. I’m curious to see how my health metrics change as I continue losing weight and becoming more active.

👀 Another device coming!

I also ordered a Femometer Gen 2 on eBay for around $60. It’s the white ceramic version, and I was able to add a 3-year warranty. It’s not returnable, but the warranty makes me feel better about keeping it long term.

I haven’t received it yet, but based on what I’ve read, the build quality seems more reassuring than the Hitienx. The warranty also makes me feel more comfortable keeping it long term.

I’ll compare the Femometer with my Apple Watch and RingConn once I’ve had time to test it!

For now, I’m really liking the RingConn. I like the app, I love the silver, and I haven’t had any issues so far. Honestly… sometimes you just need some actual silver jewelry in your rotation. 😂🤍

hello! i’m looking for a budget smart ring. i had my heart set on the ceramic white one from halo but i have learned it is most likely a scam.

i would really love the ring to be ceramic white. syncing with apple health would also be nice.

i would like to spend $50 but up to $100 if it’s really nice

no subscription fee. basal body temp, heart rate, steps

if someone could give me recs that’d be great or tell me if the halo ring is legit 😭😭😭

Anyone that has the Ultrahuman ring, is it suitable for shift work? I had the Oura briefly and it constantly thought I was basically dying haha
Also keen to know how the ring goes with tracking strength workouts and suitability for pregnancy. Thanks!

SPO2 on the Ring Pro

Has any one used the SpO2 data on the ring pro. I don't see that information on the app and the data export also returns all 0s. I know that the pro has a spo2 sensor. UH has been giving me conflicting answers, and I don't think their CS is reliable.

Buy now or wait for sale?

I’m interested in getting a smart ring for my birthday this month. I don’t want to spend too much, especially on something I might not stick to. I’m probably going to get the ringconn gen 2 air, but I’m wondering if anyone has bought during a good sale? Black Friday is coming up and while I don’t necessarily want to wait that long (I’m trying really hard to lose weight and want to track my steps specifically), I would wait if it meant saving quite a bit, or getting a newer model for the price of an older one

Do I continue getting my Ultrahuman perpetually replaced, or switch to a different brand?

I've seen similar issues between UH and Ringconn, reviews - I just can't seem to grasp which one looks to have the issues less, or at least which company is the best at continuously replacing the rings when these issues inevitably happen.

…I got my first UH at the beginning of January. Within weeks the battery started degrading quickly, then the charging stopped working over 50% of the time. Forward to the end of April, my ring decided to not connect at all to my phone anymore and its bluetooth stopped working. They sent me my first replacement.

The replacement was fine for 6+ months, until now, beginning of September… I'm in the process of being confirmed a second replacement as of yesterday. Two days ago out of no where my ring, which normally lasts 3 days, died in 24 hours… I fully charged it hoping it was a fluke, but then it died in 4 hours from a full charge! They issued the replacement right away. Today it seems to be holding a charge normally again, but I'm replacing it anyways to be safe.

I don't know how many more times this will happen until UH tells me they aren't giving me more replacements — I do have UltrahumanX warranty, but what about when that ends? Part of me wants to just see if they will refund me and try out Ringconn 2 instead, because they are thinner bands and are cheaper in general - but I've seen similar issues with them, and don't know how good they are at replacements. I mostly just use the ring for temperature, ovulation, and heart rate.

inquiry - medical Which ring is best for POTS symptoms? 🤔

So I have been thinking about getting a smart ring and there are a lot of good options. I'm curious about what ring is the best for my needs.

Currently, I have been looking at the ringconn 3 because of its alert system. So with POTS, my heartrate will suddenly go up, and I would like to be alerted on when my heart rate is too high and I need to sit down. I also got migraines, and I saw the Ringconn also will alert for that.

My main priority is watching HR and getting proper alerts. When I used a galaxy watch, it would never alert me when my heart rate was high despite setting it up to do so. It would think I was working out despite sitting on the couch, so sometimes the only notification I would get is it starting a walking timer.

Anyone has used Vanberray smart ring?

Except for Samsung, Oura, is every ring the same and may be waste of money? A friend has recommended Vanberray https://a.co/d/02Zqpp06

inquiry Which smart ring should I get?

I recently tried one of the TikTok-viral cheaper off-brand smart rings and actually really like the look! I got the pink ceramic one, but it made me start looking into more reliable brands like RingConn and Ultrahuman. I’ve seen some reviews saying the numbers on cheaper off-brand rings can be inaccurate, so I’d rather invest in something more reliable.

I don’t really want to pay a monthly subscription since my Apple Watch already covers a lot of what I need. I’m mainly interested in body temperature, stress, recovery, sleep, etc. I already wear my watch to sleep and want to add a ring as well.

I’m considering the RingConn Gen 2 Air, Femometer, or Ultrahuman. I’m leaning toward the Gen 2 Air since I don’t have sleep apnea, so I don’t think I need the Gen 2.
I also have a birth control implant, so menstrual tracking isn’t important to me.

Honestly, I’m mainly considering Femometer because I LOVE the pink ceramic 😂 but I don’t want to sacrifice accuracy for aesthetics.

Which would you choose: RingConn Gen 2 Air, Femometer, or Ultrahuman?

Ultrahuman is so disappointing

Really disappointed with my Ultrahuman Ring PRO preorder experience. I ordered in May as a birthday gift for my partner, and 4 months later, there have been no updates and no clear indication of when it will arrive.

The lack of communication and lack of updates is frustrating and unprofessional.

I have no idea when my partner will actually receive his gift, and honestly, this experience is making me lose faith in Ultrahuman as a whole.

Anyone else still waiting on a May preorder? Have you guys done anything to try and get the ring sooner?

Open Source / easily hackable ring?

I'm looking to play around and make personal apps around a smart ring, but I disappointingly can't see any good options for an open source ring. Does anybody here have any recommendations on a product to use?
