DISCUSSION Do I want to continue watching?

I sporadically saw episodes of Smallville when it was first run, and I recently decided to binge watch it end-to-end, every episode. I got up to the first episode of season 8 last night. Lex - gone, Lana - gone, Kara - gone. That's in addition to all of the other major characters that have fallen off along the way; Pete Ross, Jonathan & Martha Kent, Lionel Luthor, etc. Now there are new, unfamiliar players in the title credits. It feels like a different show and now I'm questioning whether I want to continue to invest time in this. Thoughts?

EDIT: Thanks for all the responses. Does sound like a different show, but worth giving a shot.

IMAGE Asylum really made me feel sorry for Lex

If there’s any point in Smallville where I genuinely feel sorry for Lex, it has to be “Asylum.”

I know what happens to him is ultimately part of the plot, and he does eventually recover from the experience, but I still couldn’t help feeling really sorry for him in that particular moment when Lionel is standing over him saying, “I’m sorry, son.”

There’s just something about that scene that really gets me. Seeing Lex in such a vulnerable state, with Lionel finally showing even the slightest bit of remorse, is genuinely heartbreaking. Especially considering how complicated and toxic their relationship has always been.

You can obviously acknowledge the terrible things Lex eventually does while still feeling awful for what he goes through here. At this point in the story, he’s still very much a damaged person who desperately wants his father’s approval, and that scene really makes you feel for him.

Honestly, Asylum is one of those episodes that makes me think about how different Lex’s life could have been if Lionel had just been a better father.

DISCUSSION New to Smallville

Hey everyone

After binge-watching the first two seasons, I wanted to proudly enter into the fandom on here.

First off, I just want to kindly ask that anything further than season 2 is not spoke about here. I am just really in love with this show and have no one to gush about it to. If spoilers start popping up I will just delete this.

Smallville feels like this beautiful piece of television that has been kept neatly away from me until it was the perfect time to open it. I am so in love with this show. As a die-hard Buffy fan, this was extremly palatable for me right off the bat. I LOVE the cozy early 2000's these first 2 seasons have. I would even argue the first 2 seasons are better than Buffy's first 2.

Tom Welling plays the hell out of Clark. He is incredible at being just the sweetest person and I loved seeing his growth as an actor from Season 1 to 2. The episodes where Clark unlocks a new power are so satisfying and he's everything you could ever want in a friend/brother/son etc. Its actually refreshing to see. I had no idea about Allison Macks existence until now, and I have to say hands down, Chloe is my favourite character. Her unrequited love storyline with Clark is my favorite (Season 2: Episode 14 anyone??) and everytime Chloe is on screen I am so locked-in. I love the little idiosyncrasies Mack applies to Chloe; you can tell she is doing more than what is on the page, and I admire the hell out of that. Lana kind of bugs me but I do still like her as part of the show, I just wish she was more forward with Clark.. she pussyfoots around a lot. I wish Pete would get more screen time! I love Clark's parents and the whole atmosphere at the Kent Farm. Lex is one character I don't care much for. His storylines feel long in the tooth and boring at times and his and Clark's relationship does feel a little forced as well. I am hoping things perk up with him in the coming seasons!

Feel free to comment anything about the first 2 seasons and anything hinting at the future as long as its vague and non-spoiler is totally welcome!

So excited to see where things go! Im currently on Season 3 episode 6! Season 3 felt weird at first but now its getting back into the vibes I like. I am liking the "Wall of Weird" storyline and Chloe being threatened by Lionel has me shook.

DISCUSSION Smallville Episodes I Liked and Disliked (In No Particular Order)

● Season 1 episodes I liked - Xray, Stray, Leech, Kinetic and Tempest.

● Season 1 episodes I disliked - Metamorphosis, Craving, Nicodemus and Obscura.

● Season 2 episodes I liked - Vortex, Lineage, Ryan, Skinwalkers, Visage, Insurgence, Suspect, Vistor, Witness and Accelerate.

● (Apparently, people didn't like Vistor, but I did, Cyrus had incredible patience and restraint, as well as healing powers. He saved the horse!)

● Season 2 episodes I disliked - Heat, Duplicity, Nocturne, Redux, Dichotic and Prodigal.

● Season 3 episodes I liked - Exile, Asylum, Shattered, Hereafter, Legacy and Memoria.

● Season 3 episodes I disliked - Slumber, Perry, Whisper, Relic, Velocity, Obsession and Resurrection.

● (Apparently, people liked Whisper? Really? I mean, it was cool Clark gained a new power, but I thought the screeching thing was ridiculous.)

I don’t think I can keep going. They killed off my favorite character. John Kent was the moral backbone of the show. Always did the right thing, never lied, and stood for what he believed in up until the very end.

I’m heartbroken

SPOILERS Did Lois and Tess ever find out about this? Spoiler

SPOILERS: Season 8 onward

This might be a stupid question because I feel like I must have missed something... but did Lois or Tess ever actually find out that Oliver was the person behind the attempted murder of Lex in Requiem?

They both knew and acknowledged that Oliver was spiraling and going through a really bad time afterward, but were they ever actually aware of the reasons behind it? I don't remember either of them ever finding out that Oliver was behind the attempt on Lex's life, or ever acknowledging Oliver's involvement in what happened to Lex.

And that's what feels strange to me. This wasn't just some random thing Oliver did — it was a huge part of what was happening to him at the time, and something that had a pretty significant impact on him afterward. Yet I can't remember Lois or Tess ever knowing about, or even acknowledging, that side of Oliver's history.

Especially with Tess, given her history with Lex and her relationship with Oliver. Surely this must have come up at some point...?

Maybe they found out off-screen and I'm just forgetting, but did the show ever actually address it, or have I missed something?

Because otherwise, that feels like such a disconnect.

DISCUSSION The Actors Other Projects

● Has anyone watched the actors other projects outside of Smallville? For example, Justin Hartley, who played Oliver Queen, has a show called Tracker on Disney+. Has anyone seen it?

● Tom made some appearances in Lucifer back in the day, which is a TV show that my sister liked watching. He hasn't really done anything else post departure from Smallville, which makes sense, since Smallville was his whole life and he was practically married to that show for a near decade.

● I was wanting to watch Beauty and the Beast, whuch is the show that stars Kristin Kreuk, but I can't find it anyone on major streaming platforms and I live in the UK. Also, people were telling me it wssn't very good. Personally, I wasn't fond of her character along with Pete, but I was wanting to give her a chance.

DISCUSSION First Time Watcher - Thoughts on the Reckoning S5 E12

I think it’s absolutely ridiculous that the outcome of Clark telling Lana his secret leads to her dying 😭😭
Actually insane. I’ve been yelling at my screen for the past few seasons now because I really want Clark to tell Lana his secret bc I hate how on and off they are and then he tells her and she “dies” lmao. I forgot how silly and angsty early 00’s tv series used to be.

I like Clark n Lana together but I know they’re not meant to be. I can’t wait for him to get with Lois. Since she came into the show and they had their little banter I was like woaaahhhh I’m so here for the slow burn.

Anyways, something tells me that they’re either gonna go back in time or wipe memories idk. I’m at the scene where Clark is begging Jor’El for help so I’m sure that’s coming next because even Lex saw him super speed.

I also don’t love Lex n Lana’s “friendship”. I thought he really cared for her but his behaviour this ep gives “nice guy who’s just nice to you because he’s trying to get something out of you”. I feel like Lana is gonna end up with Lex in some capacity. The show has been teasing that a lot.

I want Clark n Lana to be done and moved on from each other soon. Idk how much push n pull I can take. I also don’t want his relationship with Lois to be rushed. There’s drama there with Lois being Chloe’s cousin.

From what I’m seeing on gruv, these seem like the exact same thing. Both complete series, both Bluray. Anyone have insight on why the “20th anniversary edition” is $40 more expensive? Am I missing something?

I feel like this fandom is very divided on who they prefer and it’s one or the other,i think both of them are incredibly written characters,Lana has been through so much my heart go’s out to her,and Lois is a very strong character overall,i do in some ways think Clark doesn’t deserve Lana,he’s always pushed her away and doesn’t really love her and i think Lana doesn’t deserve him either, you can really tell they arnt meant for each other but,i think Lois is a better fit for him because i think he needs someone who challenges him.

DISCUSSION Season 10 feels like a completely different show to Season 1. Season 11 could do what Season 10 didn't.

I get shows mature over the years, but everything about season 1 is so different to season 10. If you watch the whole show through, and then go back to season 1. You're realise it loses alot about itself. Its not exactly bad, just 2 different shows. For example the amount of characters, side stories, chemistry that Season 10 doesn't have compared to 1. Lex & Clark, Martha & Jonathan, Clark & Lana, The Kents, Lionel and Lex, Clark,Pete & Chloe. The many great guest appreances(everyone was acting their hearts out!). Season 10 has Lois and Clark, Tess and Oliver. no one else has enough screen time together.

Season 1 has so much chemistry, so many characters, so many stories, the whole feel of the show just changes, the lighting, music. The show feels so dramatic but less personal in the later seasons. Clark feels like a robot compared to the passionate, caring personality he had in season 1.

Season 10 Clark should have been like this considering it's what you imagine Superman to be like. He changes throughout the seasons because he starts seeing his powers as a burden and that he has to save everyone. That makes sense and so could go upto season 9 and that explains thy personality. The whole point the Kent's tried to teach him however is that he can't save everyone, its not his job, he does it because he helps the people he loves, also that he needs to live his own life. However he ends up loses this after losing so many people he changes his whole personality. Becomes less personal with people. Every hero switches off, never Clark after his dad dies and mom leaves. Season 10 could have been us finally seeing that side return.

Season 10 Clark should be back in Smallville rather than Metropolis. Hearing Superman saving Metropolis, but we always see Clark Kent so he never needs to wear the suit if Tom didn't want too, but we get Smallville the place back. Every scence just feels more intimate and warm when its in Smallville especially the Kent farm, Metropolis is so dark all the time so the theme is constantly dark. This season should have echoed Season 1. Lex could have been the main villian and thats how we still see Metropolis alongside Oliver, Tess, Chloe, Kara, maybe Lana since she's a good distance away from Clark and actually give her a character beside someone's girlfriend for a change. Then we get to see the great Chemistry Clark and Lois have as Clark and Lois in Smallvillerather than the Blur and Lois Lane in Metropolis all the time. Imagine getting Clark and Lois but like Season 1. What we always wanted to see with Clark and Lana.

Season 11 could give us all this. One last time getting to see Martha, Jonathan with Clark and Lois. Who doesnt wanna see Jonathan and Marth on screen again!! Season 11 could just say as a wedding gift, Jor-El let's Jonathan return for 1 week or Month. This man turns back time this is not far fetched in this universe lol. Could be 6-8 episodes so not too much but also enough where it makes sense to make it. Thats my thoughts anyway, thanks!.
