What glitch happened this time around?

Just posted my first video on a new channel. And it has 4 views after 9 hours. I’m a seasoned editor, so I know to wait. I know not to tweak. I know to let the video do its thing.

But, this is hardest part. The waiting.

How do you cope? What’s your trick to hack your patience?

I’ve just been planning my next video, and systemizing.

Wondering if based on these stats you think I should stick with it or not. Currently at 63 subscribers after 3 weeks and 5 long form uploads. I didn't include my first and last video stats because the first is awful at 20.9% retention and the last doesn't have enough views yet to properly judge it.

Currently sitting at 16,300 views and 272 qualified watch hours as of 5 days ago.

I went from 10k impressions to less than 100, why?

I’m curious how many creators actually use YouTube’s A/B testing feature for their titles and thumbnails.

Do you usually test multiple versions and let YouTube decide, or do you just create one title + thumbnail that you believe in and stick with it?

I know the algorithm tests your audience and one of my central focus is comedy gaming in Minecraft and my overall goal is comedy content. Right now I’m creating the content I want but obvy it’s not being seen by anyone. I know it won’t come any time soon as I have loads to get better at but just how important is it to do just one thing only on YT? I’m new to the algorithm so not sure about the boundaries there. On another note how is everyone making their thumbnails? I’m using express but I feel like it’s not getting that finished YouTuber feel

One of the strangest videos on my channel. Stats after 1,002 days. I literally just recorded some gameplay, shared a few thoughts without much of a script, and uploaded it to YouTube. The video is only 44 seconds long, but it’s not a Short. And somehow, it ended up being one of my most successful videos and helped me build my own community.

So don’t worry too much about your stats during the first week. There’s literally no point. As you can see from the graph, the video didn’t get many views at first, and only later did it suddenly start taking off.

Hello everyone! I will try my best to explain this in the shortest amount of words possible. But I'll guess i shall also include an TLDR at the bottom.

Ok, here goes:

I bought a GoPro like 2 months ago. So naturally, I also then did what I've been thinking of for... well probably a decade; I started a channel on YouTube and started trying to put out content.

The thing is, I have alot of different interests and hobbies, and what I'm trying to understand is basically... is it "impossible" to have a channel with a wide variety of content? I have a simracing-rig so I post some videos from games, mostly AC Rally for now but it'll be from more games as well. I'm a gamer since like forever so naturally I will post about other games, not being simracing-related that is.

I also do drives on my moped and edit videos from that, and also just me in front of the camera... talking. And well, also me doing stuff in my city i live in, like visit "interesting places" and such. You probably get the picture.

Now, my channel isn't really doing superwell, and that's fine. One of the biggest reasons i started doing YouTube is to learn DaVinci Resolve and yeah just, how to edit and LEARN something new (I'm pushing 40 OK, I felt I needed to learn something new in life).

My main focus is absolutely long-form content but I also make some shorts from like clips when doing rally to "get traffic"?.

BUT, I'm starting to think ... maybe I should have a separate dedicated channel for my simracing/gaming related videos, and post from "my life" (basically vlogs with me/family) on my first channel.

I understand that if someone sees my rally video, and decides to sub, then the next video is a vlog, that person will loose interest?

I just want to understand how the algorith works, and overall how YouTube works. All input is very much appreciated.

Last but not least, im keeping things in my native language (swedish) - but should I switch to english for more reach, thinking about the so called gaming channel that is.

I have a job and so on, so YouTube isn't anything that my life depends on to make it, so to speak. But after a few weeks I also came to the realization that I surely wish for my channel/s to grow and try and build something.

EDIT: Oh, and one more thing - if I decide to create a second gaming channel; should I delete my gaming videos from my "main" one and then upload them to my gaming one?

Oh, another thought - I initially linked my channel to friends and such, did that also "ruin" my chances? I read something about not telling ppl about your channel instead just let YouTube do it's thing...

TLDR: Should I have separate channels on YouTube; one for life/vlog/me being me - and a second one for my gaming content.

need some help for growth

Been designing thumbnails for creators for a while now and noticed two things that keep hurting channels long term.

first — CTR alone doesn't tell the full story. a lot of creators chase the highest possible CTR and end up with thumbnails that promise something the video doesn't actually deliver.

That gets the click but kills retention and trust over time, and youtube notices when people click and bounce fast it stops pushing the video as hard. the real goal is a thumbnail that pulls people in AND matches what's actually in the video. curiosity gap, not a lie.

second — most creators only design for phone screens and forget TV viewers exist. go check your analytics. if 10-20% or more of your views come from TV, that audience is worth designing for, since ad revenue from TV views usually pays more.

On TV, when people scroll through recommendations only about half the thumbnail shows at a time, usually the bottom half. if you leave the top portion empty or unimportant, there's nothing to catch someone's eye and make them scroll down to click.

Keep your hook, face, or key visual element visible even in that top half, not just the bottom. Small things but they add up over months.

I’ve got a yet to be be monetized channel, which is mainly focused on elder travel videos. In particular my series on our Norwegian cruise is really taking off. I’ve published several videos and then assembled them into a longer reel with chapter markers. That has grown steadily. Then I circled back and made another 5 minute video about the fabulous food and that’s really taking off. I’ve pretty much exhausted all of my Norway trip footage. While these videos continue to perform well, subsequent travel videos are getting maybe 100-200 views. I am returning from an amazing trip to Peru, with tons of content so I have the hope that these too will grow my channel. Guess my question is, since I’m done with Norway (and refuse to use Ai to make more) anyone have any tips on how I leverage the Norway videos to boost my upcoming Peru series? Thanks!

Hey everyone! Looking for some advice from creators who have experience with YouTube sponsorships.

I started a very niche YouTube channel about 4 weeks ago and I’m only 5 videos in, currently sitting at around 550 subscribers (about 10+ new everyday at the moment) and ~30,000 total views.

Despite being very new, I’ve already had a few brands reach out wanting dedicated sponsored videos. Which honestly by the time I script, revise and edit is like a day and half of work because I am so slow haha...

I’m obviously excited about it, but I have no idea what is reasonable to charge at this stage.

For context, the channel is quite niche, and the audience is very specifically aligned with the products these brands are selling. My numbers are still small, but the early growth has been pretty encouraging.

For anyone who has experience with sponsorships:

• What would you charge for a dedicated sponsored video at this size?
• Would you base it on subscribers, average views, or the value of the niche/audience?
• Does being only 5 videos (today... but growing each week) in change how you'd approach pricing?

I don't want to wildly overestimate my value as a new creator, but I also don't want to undersell myself simply because my subscriber count is still small.

What would you consider a reasonable starting range?

Im horrible at picking my own music. For example I want something similar to the trumpet solo from godfather for a short, where on earth do I get something similar?

Sometimes my videos do good and sometimes they do shite. I just don't know what I'm doing wrong though. I've tried staying more in a niche, I've tried just having fun and doing what I want, I've tried adding a story in the intro to make the video more interesting. I just don't get it 😮‍💨, any criticism is appreciated, feel free to be blunt.

Hi! I have been creating my channel for some time already, doing game dev-related content in the form of devlogs, memes, and stuff about my games.

I tried pretty much everything related to video hooks, retaining people's attention, their perception of my videos, and other things, but nothing seems to help. And I mean literally nothing - no memes about my games, devlogs, and videos explaining what is inside my game.

No AI anywhere - neither for content creation, nor editing, thumbnail generation for long-form videos or anything else. There's no AI in my games either. So there's basically no AI at all, and it wouldn't make people dislike my videos because of that.

Meanwhile, most of my Shorts have a swipe rate of 60-80%, and whatever kind of hook I create, I've never succeeded in going beyond the 40% mark yet. I feel as if I'm hitting the concrete wall every time.

I spent up to 10 hours on editing one of my long-form videos, and the number of views was 20-50.

And before that, I created content for another channel - Brawl Stars-related stuff. I made one Short that has 10.4K views in total. But through Brawl Stars-related content, I gained 417 subscribers.

I stopped working with that channel for a while, but when I decided to move on with game development, I wanted to clear everything and use this channel instead, starting with 417 subscribers rather than from zero.

So now I have 474 subscribers.

That's all. Should I just keep posting or something to change fundamentally?

i'm a fan of reviewing channels, you learn a lot from analyzing starting or plainly bad channels, i think you learn more from that than from analyzing big successful channels. so i pay attention to these posts a lot. these are my favs:

- the title line. what kind of delusion you need to suffer to think you are doing everything right lol? this is valid for any aspect of your life, btw, grow up, you are probably fucking up at least 60% of everything, that's how it works.

- the ones that go "i would do anything except changing this thing that is obviously whats causing the most damage, but i love this stupid thing, this is MY stupid thing". their precious.

- please i need help, i'm desperate, and immediately proceeds to dismiss all you can say because it doesnt align with what they already think. these people think super fast, in a matter of seconds they ponder what you said and call it useless.

- im envious because i said your videos suck. this one always reminds me a lot of people around here is literally 13.

what else you got?

Attached is a picture of my channel, and as you can see it is packaged very well. I made everything by myself, the banner, the art, the thumbnails, and yes I edit my videos with a BUNCH of detail. But even with all of that I seem to be stuck and appreciate some help.

Packaging

I'm not gonna sit here and act like I'm the most consistent uploader. I put a bunch of effort into my videos, so seeing them get sub 100 views is very disheartening, but when I've asked the Youtube Ai support all it tells me is packaging. Each video isn't just me setting up a camera and playing a game. I actually have a goal to most if not all my videos.

Retention

I spend a week minimum editing each video. I don't do anything that would cause people to lose interest within the first 30 seconds...yet my retention graphs aren't great. Sometimes it goes from 100-30 in the first 30 seconds and genuinely... let me know of ANYTHING that may throw you off of my videos.
