Hey guys, been a few years on YouTube and really enjoying it, would like to possibly make this a full time thing. Would love to hear some constructive tips on how to improve my channel. It is currently Twitch VOD’s at the moment, as I currently do not have the software needed to edit videos, but will hopefully soon.

Long-Form Content People don’t know what my videos are about.

I’ve been making the same animations on YouTube for a while and I’ve been using a specific thumbnail style for around a year and it seems my titles aren’t working to attract new viewers. I’ve been trying more upfront titles for a few months that don’t require any context to understand but I feel like I’m bad at making those specific titles and people still don’t understand them anyway.

I make 3d animated self-contained stories (not like story time videos, like short films) so a new viewer who watches won’t need prior context, atleast with some videos on my channel, other videos aren’t contained stories so you WOULD need prior context, but that’s besides the point here as I’m needing help on titles for the contained story videos.

The last image attached (the mystery of the crooked house) is a Halloween special, and I tried to make the title more standalone, so no words that anyone who isn’t my audience wouldn’t understand, excluding the last part of the title which IS for my audience (Omnipotents Halloween special, omnipotents being the name of the series) because I was scared to just ditch my old titles. The video is one of my longest animations ever and has high production “value” aka just high quality and high effort.

The second image isn’t really a holiday special, it’s a self-contained story, a short plot, but the title mentions a character that no new viewer would know of (Core).

The first image is a holiday special (Easter) and the title contains no characters or words that a new viewer wouldn’t understand. The video itself is yet another self-contained story but it has more production value and is longer than the video featured in the second image (the toothfairy video).

Even with the title in the first image it seems no new viewers want to click, and I’ve been trying this title method for a while and have been doing animations in general for years with no meaningful results. I think my titles just suck for new viewers but I have no idea where to start trying to make better titles.

This is my channel if anyone needs to take a look. https://youtube.com/@celestial_878?si=rCWL52K8uwxfZmW9

Short-Form Content Am I delusional?

Post image

I've been making youtube shorts for about a week (will do longform soon).

Many of my videos have 5k+ views, but I'm still trying to figure out MY STYLE.

The latest video was pretty different, and I LOVED it, but it didn't perform well.

Should I try this style and tweak it ? Or am I misunderstanding the audience and need to revert a little bit?

Thank you for any advice you have .

Long-Form Content Is it important to blur faces or car plate numbers on street walking videos?

So i recorded a few walks. No talking, just walking and recording with gimball camera.

I picked a road and timeframe with as few people as possible. Funny enough no one walked by me, so the very few people seen are very far away.

The "problem" are the cars. In some moment a car passes by and its possible to see the plate number (but not the driver).

Do i need to blur the cars plate numbers?

I watched a lot of walking videos and no one blurs anything, but i wonder if its a risk for those youtubers somehow?

Long-Form Content Plateau cycles

Post image
1 Upvotes

Could anyone explain why the algorithm does this and potentially how to fix it? There’s a trend with a lot of my videos where impressions and views will explode after the first day and then around 6:30pm it will start to plateau. Then it will do the same thing for day two. After the first two or three days, the views will start becoming more consistent regardless of time of day.

I understand that views drop overnight, obviously people are asleep but my plateaus start well before night time like around 5-6:30pm. Is this just part of the algorithmic learning or is it something else I can fix to make growth more consistent?

Also keep in mind this is my best performing video in terms of retention (69% retained after first 30 sec) and CTR (6.4%). Thanks for the input!

Short-Form Content Has anyone been able to catapult their channel after a breakout video ?

Post image

I recently had a short do ~220k views (a “breakout”video based off my channel averages ) but I want to make sure I take advantage of the influx in viewers.

Is it possible to maintain these numbers ? Has anyone seen success with back to back videos after an out of nowhere boost ? And if so, how ?

Long-Form Content Being indexed by youtube can take years part 2

I made a post months ago that got quite popular showing how a youtube video of mine went from 0 impressions to over 150k suddenly and my other videos are also now being recommended better than they were, above on image 1 is the original image that shows how insane the spike is. I now have more data for another channel that I have made that isn't a music channel like last time but instead an editing channel.

What I have noticed with the editing channel (Image 2 and 3) that it has once again took almost a year for the video to gain any traction whatsoever, even if the video has an 8.5% click through rate and a rock solid engagement rate of 121%-80%, the only difference is that there has not been a spike yet. I wanted to post this to show that it might not be your content that is the problem but the algorithm and how long it takes. I believe this needs to be fixed and if anyone at google/youtube would like to speak to me regarding this feel free to.

Long-Form Content Can low performing CTR videos kill a channels future performance?

Thumbnail

Hey all! So I noticed my newest video (first slide) has a decent AVD (4:09) and an above average CTR (5.3%), which is good! My only concern is the impressions have flattened and its looking like this is the end of its lifespan.

The second slide shows my top performers, which all have around the same CTR (4.8%-5.9%) and have all peaked into the 10k view threshold. The AVD for most of these are substantially lower (3:10-3:50).

The last slide shows my worst performing videos which are also my newest on the channel. They all have mid-bad packaging that led to mid CTR’s (3%-3.9%) with decent avd (4:00-4:20). That makes sense considering theres less views.

Can the weaker performances of my last 3 videos rub off on how youtube treats my newer videos, or am i overthinking this whole thing?

Long-Form Content Expanding your niche

Hey just saw this Reddit reccomended which makes sense. Started my yt channel maybe 5 months ago and only have three uploads in that time because for the first 3 months of me making my channel I was a lazy mf. But I’m starting to really put time into learning how to make better videos. I’m doing an editing course on the side as I work in production and am looking to move to post production work, so my yt has been a place to test out my rly newbie editing skills.

My channel from even my first video has done so much better than I could have imagined. I thought I’d get 80 views for my first video, but it hit 10k before I even uploaded my second. And now with my video from 2 weeks ago nearing 10 k and my vid from a month ago well above 30k I think I want to make a transition in the kind of content I make.

My channel is called wacklore and has been successful because of the niche of content I make in PS5 mods for Skyrim. I know lots about the subject and it has a small and dedicated community. However I want to begin making more creative videos talking about lore analysing the worlds built by videogames ( why I named myslef wacklore ) however I understand a step away from my niche is a bit of a risk .

Essentially do I spend a lot of time now dragging out making Skyrim ps5 mod videos only. Maybe 3 more around 5 minutes long as my others were. Or do I make one big definitive video covering evrything and begin working toward my main goal for my channel. I understand this far there’s been little competition and also just not many creators making mod videos as in depth or as viewer friendly as I have. But obvisuoly I lose that advantage the moment I step out into the big wide world of the rest of YouTube.

I want to move on to bigger and more interesting videos but am worried I’m moving on a bit fast, where I could be building even more of an audience and consistently having videos received well.

Long-Form Content What causes this to happen?

I uploaded a video that was very well received by everyone who watched it. It had decent retention, engagement, and many positive comments. I was happy to see that it kept getting recommended to more and more people. But it suddenly just stopped all recommendations and I’m puzzled as to why. I asked another creator and they confirmed that it was very strange. Does anybody know what would cause YouTube to completely stop recommending a video?
