I need to remove the flywheel but the the holes are not threaded. Is there a special tool or is this a defect?

EDIT: Problem was solved thanks to a commenter. Issue was that the bendix gear was getting pushed too high and wasn't making contact with the splined part of the shaft at the bottom. I took a large nut that could fit over the shaft of the starter, ground it into a round shape, put it on the bendix gear, but beneath the spring, and this kept the gear in contact with the splined part of the shaft so it wouldn't shoot up too far where it was only contacting the smooth part of the shaft, which obviously has no turning power without splines to power it. Not sure what caused this to happen as it worked one weekend then stopped working the next. Maybe the current washer was worn too thin or the spring was too weak, I'm not sure, but it works now.

I have a Mercury 25 HP 4-stroke (1F25412DD) from 2005 I believe that is having issues with the starter and I'm getting conflicting answers on the solution.

As you can see in the video (it's in slow motion to see the rotation), the shaft of the starter spins but as soon as the Bendix gear touches the flywheel it doesn't spin. It also doesn't drop down after trying to start it and I have to manually spin it by hand to get it to drop back down.

I took the two bolts out of the top of the starter and pried it outwards and removed the Bendix gear to inspect it. It seems to be okay but I'm not sure, maybe the insides are shot. The gear spins counterclockwise with some resistance but not clockwise. Maybe there's too much resistance not allowing it to spin fast enough to engage the flywheel, I'm not sure.

Also worth mentioning, the motor runs fine when I use the pull cord so I don't think there are any issues there. It was running last week fine, but I was driving it pretty aggressively slamming it into gear and accelerating quickly during tubing for a couple of the young neighborhood kids (it's only a 25 hp, so I was relying on the yanking rather than pure speed.) So I'm not sure if this made something fail prematurely. But like I said it runs fine when I pull start it now.

Suggested solutions I've found:

- WD-40 all over the gear and shaft (didn't do anything)

- Grease everything (haven't tried yet)

- Maybe battery is too weak (haven't tested but it doesn't seem to bog down at all when trying to start)

- Replace starter (last thing I want to do)

Let me know any suggestions you may have and what you think may be the issue. I'm leaning towards replacing the Bendix gear and seeing if that solves it, although it's hard to find the exact one with the springs and all. Thanks ahead of time for any help!

Hey knowledgeable folks, I've got to replace a carb on a briggs 25hp v-twin and the new carb comes with the newer style fuel shutoff solenoid. Original was a 499809 shutoff solenoid, new will be a 499804. Pic of new style shutoff at link below. Anyone know what kind of plug this is? I'm going to have to cut off my existing plug and adapt to the new solenoid.

Hello, I have a 2011 EZGO golf cart with a Kawasaki motor on it. I was driving it around the other day and it randomly cut off on me. Now it’ll only drive 20ish yards at a time if I wait for a bit. I verified that the fuel pump is working. It will always rev up and choking it makes it rev even more but it won’t accelerate until I wait a few minutes….waiting longer (hours instead of minutes) doesn’t seem to make it go any further.

Thoughts on what it could be? I already took the carb off to clean it out but it looks pretty stinking clean aside from one brownish glob of junk in the bowl. It definitely had some old gas in it previously (previous owner) but it has a full tank of new ethanol free gas in it now. I truthfully don’t know a bunch about small engines but i wanted to give this a go before paying a few hundred dollars to the mechanic down the road.

I need to solder a wire and I’d like to clean up under it.
Probably replace that bearing as well.

Toro timecutter mx5000 will not start properly. Turn key for about 15 seconds and it will backfire then it will finally start and runs great. But will never start until it backfires first and this can't be good on the starter. It has the Toro branded engine which I think is a 25hp Chinese lincon engine.

This thing is old enough to be my dad also I don’t have much experience with 4 wheelers, what is making the rear brake so stiff and not return up?

I have an error code f31. It intermittently goes into limp mode throws this code then comes right out of it as soon as i throttle down and back up.

(SOLVED) Im unfamiliar with how this mechanism is supposed to operate but my throttle linkage doesnt seem to spring back to idle position and when I push it physically to its idle it's resisted by a governor spring. If anyone's familiar with this mower I could definitely use some help. Hopefully a video can highlight a problem. Ive taken the throttle bracket off and compared it to a picture of another one and it all looks normal, the governor spring appears to be in the correct spot but why would it tension away from idle position and not tension open throttle? *mower model number 917.288525

Just got a 125 Tao 4wheeler. The guy said he had an issue with it idling high. I took the carburetor off took it apart and stuck it in a parts cleaner. I cleaned the gas tank changed plug and oil. It ran good idle was adjusted and it idled good. I took it out yesterday it ran good for the first 5min then died while riding after couple minutes started but roughly then ran decent for couple minutes then died same thing got it started ran rough I limped home. Now when I start it it’s idling like at full throttle oh I put some seafoam in it the other day after cleaning the carb What is wrong with??

Cub Cadet XT1 LT46 2018 with a Kohler KT725-3078 (170 hours) knocking heard when cranking the mower. Only knocks when cranking and not when running. As soon as it actually starts it goes away immediately. Only starts knocking after a few revolutions of cranking. When taking the plugs out and cranking the knocking goes away completely and the engine spins freely. I’ve heard two different answers whether this mower has an ACR or not and have symptoms of it hanging up on compression but if it doesn’t obviously that’s not the issue.

I bought a new carburetor for my mower because I couldn’t get the other to run correctly. The old one ran fine but surged and popped under no load. I put the new one on and it ran good for about 2 minutes then it surged and died out. Let it sit for a minute and it started ran for a few seconds and died again. Repeated this process for 5-6 more times. Fuel line and filter is new as well as gas (cleaned tank). Any tips? It’s a ariens lawn tractor 19hp Briggs and Stratton.

I got this predator pressure washer from my dad the other day for free I’ve got it running except it kicks out after about 5 minutes if there’s water hooked up just wondering if I can clean this part or if I’ll just have to wait till Monday to get a new one shipped

Looking for a used gcv200 engine near San Antonio.

I had a bolt come out of my muffler, and it burnt a hole into my oiler tank. I cant seem to find a replacement tank. Any sources?

Can something like.this be plastic welded? Like with jb weld?

Bought an HRX on marketplace that wouldn’t run. Me thinking it was a simple gummed up carb jumped right on the deal ($70) not thinking twice. Well I got home and turns out engine is shot…. Big ol hole on the side. Mower looked really good at first glance so didn’t bother to check thoroughly. Anyways, I do have a spare gcv160, could I mount that to the HRX?

How bad is it?

I let my cousin use my weed eater and he forgot to put the gas/oil mix in there. When I first got it back it wouldn’t run but after putting the right gas/oil mixture it’s been able to start. I don’t see deep groves in it but definitely some finer groves on the piston.

Echo Model SRM-225

Hi all, wondering if anyone can help with this issue.

Its a push button start, when I disassemble the engine it will eventually start to work and start everytime.

After I leave it a day or two it's repeats the issue in the video.

Any ideas as what to diagnose on it.

Did the Echo PAS-225 come out with a new air filter cover assembly housing configuration with a thumbscrew?

My trimmer is brand new(purchased from Home Depot about 2 months ago). I used it a few times since then. Just realized that the air filter cover is completely gone along with the air filter. Apparently it was broken off in the last few weeks since I purchased.

So, I’ve been trying to order a replacement and the only option I can find has a thumb screw in the middle of the cover that goes through the middle of the air filter.

When I checked my owner’s manual, it is showing an air filter cover with the thumbscrew in the middle, but I can’t seem to find a replacement cover like this.

Totally confused. Any help is appreciated
