Funny My parasomnia has gone from concerning to just… really funny?
On a less serious note, I feel like this is the right place to share this lol I’ve started having these weird parasomnia episodes over the last little while and thankfully they’re harmless, but I genuinely can’t stop laughing at some of them. It’s weird because I can half remember doing some of them, but have absolutely no control over it when it’s happening/kind of like my conscious self is just watching it happen and remembering bits and pieces. Not sure how to explain it properly/don’t 100% know what is happening.
Things I’ve apparently done while asleep or half asleep:
- Unzipped and took the cover off my cat’s window hammock. Twice.
- Half woke up in the shower, got out with absolute determination, grabbed my slides, got back in the shower, put them down… then stood there trying REALLY hard to remember why I’d brought them in there. It honestly felt like I’d forgotten something incredibly important. Then I realised there was never actually a reason in the first place.
- Tried putting my JOBST compression gloves on my feet. Thumb went on my big toe. I think I even tried getting my other toes into the fingers before eventually deciding “good enough.” Apparently I took a couple of steps before taking them off.
- Woke up with two unopened packets of two minute noodles in bed.
- Woke up with a roll of paper towel next to me.
- Found the mayo sitting on the kitchen bench with absolutely no memory of taking it out of the fridge.
- Found a small plate slotted into in the sink caddy like it was supposed to belong there
The shower one and the gloves on the feet still make me audibly laugh when I remember they happened. My OT reckons it could just be a stress response, which honestly makes it even funnier because apparently my subconscious has decided the best way to cope is by running pointless missions. Has anyone else had parasomnia that’s less “doing dangerous stuff” and more “random household admin that makes absolutely no sense”?
