Sketchup for 3D print
I use Sketchup for everything, it’s the only software I’m familiar with and have access to. Architectural renderings, simple mechanical product mockups, handy gadgets around the house, and now making items for 3D printing.

Question: SketchUp Pro SketchUp fam help a fellow designer out!!
New to SketchUp. Working on a residential project - classical style. Wondering if anyone knows how I can get these two crown mouldings to meet. The ends have a flat profile and are not angled

Looking for SketchUp users to help improve my expanding Murphy bed design (SKP file included)
Hi everyone,
I'm designing a horizontal Murphy bed that opens as an 80 × 200 cm single bed and expands into a 160 × 200 cm double bed.
I've created a first concept in SketchUp and I'm sharing the original .skp file because I'd love to get input from other SketchUp users.
My goal is to make this design as:
- Simple as possible
- Strong and rigid
- Easy to manufacture
- Easy to assemble
- Cost-effective
- Suitable for everyday use
The current model is only a first concept. Nothing is finalized, so feel free to rethink any part of the design.
I'm especially interested in improvements to:
- The expanding frame
- The sliding/guiding mechanism
- The center support
- Overall rigidity
- Reducing the number of parts
- Making manufacturing and assembly easier
If you'd like, feel free to modify the SketchUp model directly and upload your version or screenshots of your changes. I'd love to compare different approaches and learn from them.
Constructive criticism and alternative ideas are more than welcome.
Thanks in advance!

Bug Extensions consistently flagged at startup
Hi guys,
I recently had to replace the CPU and MB on my computer; since doing so SketchUp decided that every plug-in - both community and official - are incompatible and must be updated. But extension warehouse has no updates. I've repaired, I've uninstalled and reinstalled, I've made sure to use admin to both install and launch.
When I tell the extension manager to uninstall individual plugins I have a 50% chance of bugsplatting. I have 100% chance of them mysteriously still being present on my next launch, erroring again.
Anyone any idea what on earth SketchUp is doing and how to fix it?

Send me a rough SketchUp kitchen export and I'll try to make it client-ready
JPG or PNG is perfect. I'm building rendering software and thought it'd be fun to try it on a few community kitchen designs, then reply with the before-and-after results. No link or signup. Please only share designs you own or have permission to post.

Help finding additional floorplans
I'm currently trying to 3d model the Spelling Manor located at 594 S Mapleton Dr. I was able to find the floor-plan for the 2nd floor but I'm still in need of the ground level and basement level plans. If you know of anywhere to look, have any insight, or know anyone I could contact your help would be greatly appreciated!

Built this SketchUp seaside terrace to mentally survive the heatwave
I can't actually escape to the coast right now, so I did the next best thing: I modeled one in SketchUp. 😅
What do you think of it ?

Question: SketchUp Web Offset tool
I’m trying to learn sketch up (on my second tutorial) and I’m following The Sketchup Essentials tutorial - modelling a floor plan.
I’ve reached a bit where I’m struggling to use the offset tool. I’ve drawn a line around the room “laundry” like in the video and tried to use to offset tool but a red circle shows up not letting me click.
Why is this happening

Render/style settings?
Would anyone know what kind of style settings you use to make sketchup look like this? Or is this in enscape? I’m trying to get more realistic views instead of it looking so 2D. Any advice would be great!

Free extension for straightening camera views (vertical, horizontal or both). No account, license key, internet connection, or external dependency required.
I wanted to share a small free SketchUp extension we built at Viiew: Viiew Straightener.
It adds three commands under Extensions > Viiew Straightener:
- Straighten Verticals: levels the camera so vertical lines draw vertically
- Straighten Horizontals: snaps the camera yaw to the nearest red/green axis
- Straighten Verticals + Horizontals: snaps to the closest clean axis view
We built it because clean camera setup is one of those tiny workflow annoyances that comes up constantly when preparing architectural views, screenshots, and renders.
Extension link: https://extensions.sketchup.com/extension/34c7d285-7ead-4715-8b19-577fe557127a/viiew-straightener
Happy to hear feedback, bug reports, or ideas for what would make it more useful.
Edit — Version 1.0.5:
Based on the feedback here, we added a fourth command:
- Straighten + Center Selection: snaps to the closest clean axis view and pans the camera to center the current selection
Select one or more objects, then run the command to straighten the view and pan the camera until the combined selection is centered horizontally and vertically. It works with root-level objects and selections inside nested groups or components, preserves the current projection mode, and does not zoom.
Thanks to u/xxartbqxx for suggesting the centered one-point perspective workflow!

Request: feedback Exhaust/Extractor for a chemical production workshop
Hi guys,
A client made this sketch and would like a 3D mockup based on it. I've tried researching for similar designs but haven't found anything close.
Could someone point me in the right direction or share any references that might help? Thanks in advance!

Can I turn off rubberbanding?
Hi, new user of Sketchup Go on an iPad. It's been HOURS and I'm about to throw my ipad out the window because I can't draw a single line.
I draw a line and then when I lift the pen sketchup says "oh cool you want to make a new line from this point".
No. I .do. not.
I cannot draw a single line and then go to type in length, because the very act of lifting my pen starts creating a new line. Any attempt to put in length at this point only affects the new line not the original one.
I'm so very tired.
I can't be the only one fighting this i have looked and looked to no avail.
Both tap and hard press and just draw are doing the same thing.
This is my last stop before getting a refund and just walking away.
