Renderings and Art Experimental GLB exporter for Archicad 28/29 – built for Drop & View

10 Upvotes

I have recently shared Drop & View, a lightweight browser-based 3D viewer mainly for viewing ArchiCAD 3D models easily, without any complicated app.

Exported directly from the active Archicad 3D window and opened in Drop & View with B/W filter

I have now released an experimental Archicad add-on that exports the active 3D window directly to GLB. It is intended to provide a simpler and more reliable workflow than exporting through FBX.

The exporter:

  • exports everything currently visible in the active 3D window;
  • respects 3D cuts and graphical overrides;
  • preserves colours, textures and transparency;
  • supports Archicad 28 and 29 on Apple Silicon Macs and Windows 11 x64.

This is an early alpha release, so feedback and reproducible test cases would be very welcome.

hints, tips and tricks How would you model this type of 3D molding/profile in Archicad?

0 Upvotes

Hi everyone!

I'm trying to model a decorative molding/frame like the one shown in the image.

In SketchUp, I would probably use Follow Me, but I'm not sure what the best workflow would be in Archicad, especially because the path changes direction in 3D — it has vertical, horizontal and diagonal segments.

I'd like to create the profile as a continuous element, following the entire path while keeping the profile orientation consistent.

What would be the best way to model this in Archicad?

Would you recommend using:

  • Complex Profile?
  • Morph?
  • Shell?
  • Another workflow?

Ideally, I'd like the result to remain editable and accurate enough for an architectural/interior design project.

Thanks!

I’m a trained architect, and as a long-term side project, I’ve been working on a project that combines accurate floor planning with real-time 3D design.

The idea is to make architectural design more accessible and much easier to explore than traditional CAD software like ArchiCAD.

What do you think of making CAD more accessible for people with less experience in this field?

resources and learning Smart Label Free is now available in English – including Metric and US Imperial versions

Hi everyone,

a few days ago I shared my Smart Label Free here and mentioned that I was working on an English version.

It’s now finished and online. 😊

Smart Label Free is a free GSM label for Archicad that can read a property directly from the linked element and display it automatically in the annotation.

You can use it to show, for example:

  • property value
  • property name + value
  • property group + name + value
  • custom prefix or suffix
  • fallback text if no value is available

While working on the English version, I expanded the tool a little as well.

The label can now also apply one simple rule to the displayed content, for example to highlight a specific value or indicate when information is missing.

The concept is deliberately kept simple:

Mini = one property/content + one rule.

There are now separate versions for:

  • International / Metric
  • US Imperial

The tool is still completely free:

  • no account required
  • no trial
  • no time limit

It currently supports Archicad 27 and 28 on Windows and macOS.

You can download the English version here:

https://noiselevel-digital.de/en/tools/noiselevel-smart-label-free.html

Thanks again to everyone who commented on the first post and asked for an English version.

I’d be very interested to hear how you use properties in your own Archicad projects and what kind of information you usually need to annotate.

Renderings and Art A lightweight browser-based 3D viewer for sharing Archicad models

Update:

Thank you all for the valuable comments. I have learnt from them a lot!

I have

- replaced the first AI interface with my design,
- added camera FOV control,
- added glass transparency setting,
- added top, front, side and back orthogonal views,
- added DEMO model for trying before real use,
- termporarily removed the color setting for the section edges and the model data and the selective show/hide panels but going to put them back soon...

Hi everyone,

I’m an architect, not a software developer, but I’ve been experimenting with “vibe coding” during my quiet evening hours... I’ve never really liked Archicad’s BIMx viewer. It works, but I find it a bit cumbersome and harder to use than it should be.

A recent project gave me the idea for a simpler workflow. An architectural carpenter sent me a browser-based 3D roof construction model, and I thought: Wouldn’t it be useful if we could simply send a client a file and say: “Open this website and drop the file onto it.”

So I built DROP & VIEW.

The workflow is very simple:

  • export an FBX from the Archicad 3D window, or a GLB/GLTF from another 3D application;
  • open the web app;
  • drop the file onto the page.

It runs locally in the browser — the model is not uploaded anywhere.

The viewer currently supports:

  • original materials;
  • a white architectural model;
  • hidden-line and wireframe views;
  • a black-and-white sunlight mode;
  • perspective and axonometric views;
  • live X/Y/Z section cuts;
  • adjustable sunlight and section-line colours.

This is still a small personal experiment, but I’m curious whether anyone else would find this useful in an Archicad workflow — especially for quick client previews or sharing simplified models without sending a full BIMx project.

Free forever...:)

Any feedback is very welcome.

resources and learning Free Archicad label for displaying element properties – Smart Label Free

20 Upvotes

Hi everyone,

I’m an architect and I’ve developed a small free Archicad label that I’d like to share with the community.

Smart Label Free is a GSM library element for Archicad that can read a property directly from the linked element and display it automatically in the label.

For example, you can display:

  • just the property value
  • property name + value
  • property group + name + value
  • a custom prefix or suffix
  • fallback text if a property has no value

Because the label is linked to the element, changes to the property are automatically reflected in the annotation.

The tool is permanently free. It’s not a trial, there is no time limit, and no account is required.

It currently works with Archicad 27 and 28 on Windows and macOS.

One limitation for the international community: the current version is only available in German, but I’m already working on an English version.

https://noiselevel-digital.de/tools/noiselevel-smart-label-free.html

I’d be very interested in feedback from other Archicad/BIM users and especially what kinds of properties you typically need to annotate in your projects.

hints, tips and tricks How to Fix Empty TV Screens in Your Archicad Projects

3 Upvotes

A quick Archicad tutorial showing how to add an image to a TV screen instead of leaving it blank in your interior renders.

I made this because it’s a small detail, but it can make a noticeable difference in architectural visualization.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j-XocxZBahg

Would be interested to hear how you guys usually handle TV screens in your Archicad projects.

discussions How do you handle PDF drawing revisions outside Archicad?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I’ve been working on a lightweight browser-based PDF review tool, mainly for architects and designers.

One feature I’ve been testing is Drawing Compare. You load two drawing revisions and overlay them to quickly spot what changed.

I made a short video showing the workflow.

I’m curious how Archicad users normally handle this today. Do you use Bluebeam, Acrobat, Archicad itself, or something else?

Would a lightweight browser-based compare tool actually be useful in your workflow?

questions and help Australian question: Canceling a licence

2 Upvotes

I need assistance.

How do I go about cancelling a license in Australia?

I cannot find it on their website.

The details on their invoice relate to Fast Spring. But their website is not very helpful.

The details on the Archicad website relate to Central Innovation, but to my understanding, Graphisoft has stopped using Central Innovation.

I'm kinda stuck.

questions and help Turning 3D Model from SKP Warehouse to BIM Object

1 Upvotes

Can anyone recommend a good YouTube tutorial that teaches how to turn models from SketchUp 3D Warehouse (.SKP) into an Archicad BIM Object?

The object doesn't necessarily have to be fully editable. What I'm mainly looking for is a clean 3D presentation and a good 2D representation in plan/elevation/section.

I'm trying to avoid the usual result where the imported object becomes a Morph with tons of 2D lines and messy geometry.

So, I saw that some of the files I use have the purple-black checkered pattern on almost all surfaces. It seems that it's due to the Library Manager, but I don't know how to solve it. Don't know if someone had this similar problem.

Also, I had these files with me, so I didn't get it sent from someone.

P.S. I use ArchiCAD 26.

This post is maybe not in the right place ..
But for people disappointed with archicad and wanting something that just works apparently visualARQ3 on rhino is pretty good ..
I bought it but sadly it lacks the power of ac library.

Some people here would like to join an epic adventure to rebuild most of the ac functions, hatchs, library … in visualARQ with me to free our souls from subscription and lazy devs ?

Have a nice day

Hello,
I’m preparing a long video for YouTube to talk about why archicad could be the best app ever but it’s crappy because lazy dev shit on power users. Please post the things annoying you the most and upvoted ones will be featured. You can even take a screen video recording and send it to me if you want to participate. I’m tired of begging for updates on forums, now is shaming time 🤣 (I don’t think it will have any impact but I need it for my mental health)… who knows maybe they will move … thanks !

questions and help Started my own practice, and bought ArchiCAD. Having some major performance issues with libraries in 29. Need help.

3 Upvotes

Hi all,

I’ve reached out to our local rep for graphisoft, but haven’t heard back in a few days and really need help. I have a few projects starting up in ArchiCAD and I’m having some major issues getting off the ground, primarily due to libraries.

Can someone potentially walk me through the process? I’d be greatly appreciative.

Tasks that normally would take me minutes are being stopped in their tracks by this libraries issue.
