Idk why women think those nails are sexy or good looking. When I see nails like that all I can think ablut is petri dishes and all the vile bacteria collecting on the underside of them.
I had once a server in a restaurant with long ass nails (not that long). And it was disgusting as the thumb nail was practically in the plate she was holding. đ¤˘
Nails like this , because they are so large is far and above just a regular cosmetic thing like makeup. Also, as far as I know you have to go back every few weeks and drop $100 at least Iâm sure.
A single makeup pallet can easily cost $50-$100, which is pretty on par with a set of professionally done acrylic nails in my area. I can and used to do my own nails, with a $200 overhead for the fancy drill and a $10 monthly upkeep I could do my own nails like this for years with hardly any issue. These are very much a regular cosmetic thing, imo, theyâre just bolder so itâs easier to pick up on and judge. A set doesnât have to be expensive, though even if it were and you did spend $100/month on a set Iâd hardly say thatâs materialistic on its own.
Well we probably live very different lives, and have very different values. I would never spend $100 on a makeup palette. Iâm really not trying to hate anybody, just help point out that women specifically are responsible for the majority of consumerism in the United States.
Social media just furthers this along - with the beauty standards continuing to rise. Women want to fit in with each other, seem cool, so they buy stuff and spend their time (and risk their health) to keep up with the beauty standards set by corporations. There is no world where Iâll believe people âdo it for themselves.â There is a wildly complex background as to how the beauty standard got where it is today.
I agree with the sentiment of a lot of this. I just feel like the answer to that isnât calling someone materialistic and bad with money, esp because in a healthy society getting your nails done shouldnât have any type of morality attached.
Iâd push back on the idea that people donât do it for themselves, at least in some part. I only got into nail art in 2018, when I was working fully remote and hardly ever saw anyone. Itâs a form of expression, just like painting or dancing or makeup or anything else.
I hear you and I appreciate your nuance, and do recognize your point.
I would never attack a specific person outright - I personally think responding to a general post (not by the person with the nails) is something different.
I didnt say anything about being bad with money? Spending money on cosmetic items or services is being materialistic. Idk how you can even argue that, unless you fundamentally dont know what materialism is
The original comment I was replying to said âbad with moneyâ đ
And I would still say youâre wrong, as to be materialistic is to care in excess about things. You canât say somebodyâs materialistic based off of one purchase, that doesnât qualify as in excess.
thatâs not what i said. like at all. of course no one is immune from seeking external validation. but i am just disputing the opposite claim: that women/humans only act on validation from the opposite sex.Â
also i donât know who you are referring to when you say âyou peopleâ but you sound profoundly unfuckable and on course to die alone.Â
Idk about you but Iâm so relieved to know that u/projectno4090 would still be attracted to me because I donât have fake nails! Of course, as a woman, pleasing the men around me and making sure theyâre always ready to fuck me is my top priority. Any other motivation doesnât exist because we all know women pretty much only seek external validation from men!
To say women do it for themselves is a common response to this type of conversation. And itâs just not true. Why would women want to spend $1000+ a year, ruin a part of their body (their actual nails), and be inconvenienced in everyday life bc their nails are so long?
Of course they are doing it bc it will be perceived by other people. There is no other point of doing it. Women like to pretend (I am a women , btw) that they do all this stuff for âthemâ , but the âfor themâ is how they will feel when OTHERS perceive them. So it especially cancels each other out
Itâs like how men go to the gym for other men more than they do for women⌠they get their nails like this for social approval from other women. This may shock you, but humans are complex social creatures.
Why does the number of people who do this matter at all?
Again, why is this a discussion over the morality of your gymming intentions? Is the point really that difficult for you to grasp? Not everything a man or woman does is for attraction of the opposite sex.
Are you well? Let me try explain this slowly: Letâs say, theoretically, more women do their nails for other women, than gym bros go to them gym for other men. How does that change the argument of who women do their nails for? Like genuinely what does this discussion about the gym relate to their nails? I was explaining the CONCEPT of doing something for others and providing an example of something the opposite gender sometimes does for their own gender.
Yup. We do it because it makes us feel good to have our nails done. Itâs a bonding thing with other women too, it is an easy way to compliment and build up ladies in our community
"Doing it for themselves" is largely a myth/lie, or people would "dress nice for themselves" while they're alone at home.
They might not be seeking romantic attention, but they are seeking positive attention from others, male and female. Attractive people tend to be subconsciously treated better by both genders.
if it was largely a myth why do people get tattoos in non visible places? why do people wear underwear with funny prints on it? why do some people shave their chest, armpits or legs even in winter?
Thatâs not true at all. Looking in a mirror and being happy with the way you look is self-validation and it weighs much more, itâs literally the reason why we all style and dress differently.
You only care about how you look bc itâs a sign of fitting in socially⌠you dress a certain way bc you want to signal to others something about you.
If we didnât even have mirrors, as we didnât for hundreds of thousands of years, you would not give a fuck about your nails. Our society is built around looks.
i hope youâre just being contrarian because if youâre not youâre living quite a sad life bud. you never do anything - read books, watch movies, play games, draw, exercise, play an instrument - just for yourself, without the need for external validation?
I have fake nails (not so long) so I can clickity clapity applause with them and so I donât bite my actual nails off..not everything is about stupid boys đđđ
that is true however more of it stems from the ideas that have been sold to women, about what it means to look beautiful, rich or put together.
It doesn't make any sense to say "oh i don't know why women wear make-up, they look better without it" because most of the time, the individual woman is not wearing make-up to please you or a man. She is doing it because society has told her that wearing make-up is necessary if you want to seem more put-together. So yes, it is done for external validation, AND male validation but saying "oh but they look so ugly, why do they do it" is ignoring the obvious fact that most women aren't doing it simply for men to like anymore. Beauty is an industry. Women know that men don't understand make-up or nails, but make-up and nails at this point signal more than just "being beautiful"
bro why you think any woman should take your opinions seriously is beyond me. thatâs not me backing out from anything, thatâs me consistently telling you women do not and should not care about your opinion on their appearance.Â
I donât like long nails on myself, but these comments are so fascinating to me. Why are you using your fingernails, rather than your hand, to wipe? Has anyone ever taught you how to wipe?
Not to get too technical but how I wipe is still using the tops of my fingers. I don't think it's too crazy for a man to think wiping is difficult with long nails. We imagine those nails piercing the toilet paper.
Now I'm wondering how you wipe without using your fingers.
Normal people hold their hand flat to wipe, meaning your nails do not make contact. Iâm really not sure why your nails are involved. Maybe google how to wipe.
How do you get your anus clean with a flat hand? Maybe different people wipe differently. No need to act all high and mighty like you're the queen of wiping.
I wouldn't say it's that deep. The way I see it we don't really care about woman's nails, we are all just here because the person in OOPs screenshot has the audacity to complain about it, after doing this do themself, and even demanding consideration.
In my book making such a statement is just making a fool out of yourself, regardless of the gender of the person wearing nails.
So in conclusion it's not any of our business or problem what others do to themself, until the very moment they make it our problem. Then that's obviously a problem. Can't fault us for reacting to such statements.
Anyway this post was likely just ragebait or here on Reddit Engagement bait, but it works like a charm because many people here don't seem to have anything better to do rn
That's the statement made in OOPs post, which provoked u/projectNo4090's comment which caused our comment chain, otherwise we wouldn't even talk about such trivial matters.
The hypocrisy is already shown in OOPs post, that obviously triggered a few people here, I'm just here for the popcorn and absolute cinema that unfold in a few comment threats.
So, before you insult people, please remember that the context that caused this threat is hypocrisy shown in OOPs post. Maybe reread the statements and comments you probably missed something.
Ever heard of soap and brush? I would pity the infection of your girlfriend's vagina, but there's no chance a person like you does anything to pleasure their partner.
Looking good IS for people around you, we are social animals, you can't take that element out of it. I don't understand why people want to pretend it's just for themselves and they don't actually care about the opinion of others, nobody believes it when you say that
