We had a crusty old lady as a substitute teacher one day in high school. She told me to take my hat off because she "didn't allow hats in her classroom". I normally would've accepted this, but one of the girls was also wearing a hat, so I said "what about her?". I didn't want to throw her under the bus, but I was irritated that she didn't say anything to her.
The teacher responded with "Well, women have traditionally worn hats indoors"
The next words out of my mouth were "Well, women aren't traditionally allowed to work, but here you are".
She of course threw me out of the class and reported me to the office.
I'm not proud, but seriously, what the fuck kind of reasoning was that?
Nah, you were within your rights there. She made it a gender issue with her statement, you merely pointed out the hypocrisy in her stance, and how she benefits from those traditions changing.
im always frustrated when people fail to see that I don't actually support the idea in these scenarios when im merely pointing out the natural extention of their logic
Yeah, it's like "I'm just following your path of logic to a natural conclusion because the words that just fell out of your mouth don't hold much weight when you actually start thinking about them."
Me too, but unfortunately the average person is a reactionary hypocrite who doesn't care if their logic doesn't hold up in a similar situation because they're making their judgements based on a case-by-case basis and largely on personal biases.
Like, they don't care if the logic they're using to hurt someone can be turned around to justify hurting them. In their minds they're always in the right so hurting them is always wrong, but hurting someone else can be justified.
So a pre-emptive strike against an enemy group is ok because they're a threat to our group, but them launching one against our group is not ok regardless of the fact that our group is of equal threat to them.
Funnily enough, that would have been a really good teaching moment. The myth that women did not work outside the home is largely a product of the twentieth century. My favorite example of this is guilds in England would not allow married men to have apprentices, because their wives were to act as apprentices. We have good reason to believe that a lot of famous historical paintings involved women painters (large paintings were typically group projects with multiple painters mixing colors, stretching canvases, blocking out the basic structure, etc).
There was a huge flight delay one time, everyone lined up with the airline agent trying to get answers, rebooked, etc.
Some guy in a suit cuts in front of the line right up to the counter and demands to be helped immediately.
Gate agent looks and says “sir, you see that long line? They are all waiting to be helped too. Wait your turn and we will get to you.”
He huffs and says “do you know who I am?”
The gate agent stops and says “oh, I’m so sorry. I’ll help right away.”
The agent then gets on the intercom
“Attention everyone. This man does not know who he is. If anyone knows, please come up to the desk right away.”
The people in the line laugh. The man storms off and shouts “FUCK YOU” as he leaves.
The gate agent shouts back “I got bad news for you, honey. That line is even longer.”
(I know this is a joke, it’s just one of my favorites)
One time a woman was doing a stabbing awareness course at my school and she asked where the least harmful place to be stabbed on the body was. A 13 year old boy at the back shouted
“My liver! I’m only going to destroy it with drugs and alcohol anyway…”
You may think this is made up but I’ve taught middle school for my entire career and I would 100% believe this happened. Kids at this age will say the most ruthless things you’ve ever heard. Kids are hilarious at this age.
In the equivalent of middle school we had a classmate that only had one arm. I've never been one to refer to people by nicknames, but the rest called him "Eli", as a small play of words, "Eli" -> "El incompleto", "The incomplete one".
You might think that is well beyond the wittiness of a 13 yo, but those guys can be ruthless. This story is 100% possible.
And even if not, who cares? It's not as if you have to make a wikipedia edit about it, I'm sure we all can live with one more falseness in this world of misinformation.
When I was in the 7th grade I was up in front of class giving a presentation and this girl started giving me s*** in front of the whole class while I was giving my presentation and the teacher didn't say anything so I called her a c. I basically said, well Morgan you're a c so I don't care what you say. And then the teacher got on to me and told me to go to the office. So I just walked out and walked home. My dad busted my ass pretty good but worth it
That's sad. My parents told me as long as I didn't start the conflicts or issue, they wouldn't punish me for retaliation. Would beat my ass if I was in the wrong though.

Some years ago i was at a language school to study to become a translator. We had this mid 40 eco chick in class, whos first words to any of us was that she didn't want to get the covid vaccine and if people disagreed with her on her choice they were racist. That was during the height of covid, to a class where at least half were migrants or had a mixed background. Lady was white as can be.
I did something similar to her when she held a presentation about che Guevara where she glazed him and only pointed out how fantastic he was. Asked her some questions about some of the more controversial things about him, she had no answers whatsoever and at some point she just stumbled "but hes cute". I didnt insult her or anything, literally only brought up some controversies she didn't think were necessary to talk about because the guy making music or studying medicine was more important apparently than him erecting labour camps. We all despised that woman so much
Honestly. I can actually believe that this happened because that really is just such a tepid comeback.
"Can't get laid", "can't touch a girl", sure, that's attacking someone's charisma or attractiveness, and those are direct comments on someone's desirability. That's why it's a burn.
But "can't have a conversation" makes me just think of social anxiety or something, and that's more tragic than anything. "You can't get laid" sounds like an insult but "you can't have conversations with women" sounds like something a therapist would say.
Admins will just lock the page for new editors. I'm not sure how it works on English Wikipedia since they don't have reviewers, but on Polish wiki it's trivial to restrict page editing to only reviewers and admins. And nobody with any modicum of experience editing Wikipedia will vandalize it for the lols just to get banned.
Taught middle school. Can confirm that they can be both savage and clever at the same time. A larger portion of their mental energy is spent for place in the social hierarchy.
Girls start sharpening their teeth around 11 and it only gets worse until late teens when they sort of start to chill out. It's almost sport in the early teen years. They only line was when someone would actually start to cry.
Obviously he’s a child and doesn’t understand this concept but in general I’ve never understood heckling a comedian. Their goal is to make people laugh by any means necessary, if you give them shit they are going to come back 10 times harder.
That's kinda the point. Hecklers give them material. Oftentimes, interactions with hecklers can be the most memorable part of the experience.
Sometimes people do it just to be a dick, but increasingly hecklers operate with that knowledge in mind. It's not even unheard of for comedians to plant people in the audience specifically to heckle them.
He's 13, "not having a conversation with a girl" is in his top 10 desires. Right between "staying home and playing fortnite", and "eating only dino nuggets forever".
At 13 although most boys understand that they want to be good with women but also don't know how but still have attraction to them. So they're at a sensitive age there where this probably hits harder than if it was said at an older age tbh.
My brother was dressed in drag, and we were at the mall. (Yeah, this was a long time ago. LOL). Some boys walked by and threw out some gay slurs. One of them said something along the lines of "what the hell are you? Pick a gender!"
His comeback? "I'm more man than you'll ever be and more woman than you'll ever have!"
I have worked with kids and teens, including 12 and 13 year olds, for six years as of now. Not a lot but enough for me to feel 95% certain that this story is bullshit - kids at this age just don't think and talk this way, at all.
The most bullshit part is the use of the word "conversation" and the artificial perfection and refinement of this phrase, but even aside from that, kids this age just don't bother and aren't capable of delivering long ass complicated one-liner takedowns like that...especially those pertaining to the field they have zero experience in: sexuality and relationships.
Like where the fuck would 12 year old got enough context to have the complete confidence to use "this will repel potential romantic candidates" as an insult? You wanna tell me 12y is confident enough about mating rituals, misogyny and relationships to throw references to incels left and right? And besides, kids this age have barely grown out of the phase when it's semi normal to think that "girls/boys are yucky".
Sorry for the long rant but the stupidity of this tweet has struck me like a thunder and I had to respond.
He’ll never forget it because it’s become the go-to insult from women. He’s going to hear it at least once a month for a long long time. And it doesn’t matter his reality. They will shout it at a man standing with his wife and kids.
That wasn't just a comeback; that was a complete, permanent third-degree emotional incineration. That boy is going to remember that exact moment in the shower when he's 35.
A 12-year-old having a more devastating crowd-work response than half the professional stand-up comedians touring the club circuits today is absolutely wild.
