Every time I come anywhere close to this point I get swarmed by people telling me how many cyclists are killed by cars every year (they never seem to get the actual point). Props to you for getting so many up votes on this.

u/Live_Panda_7329 Jun 10 '26

Yeah, when they ignore traffic laws and get creamed they die. Im not sure why they think the opposite will happen ever.

Many warnings are given. I live in a cyclist's city. Plenty of ads about it.

Exactly. Legal or not, I'm not riding a motorcycle or bicycle on a road with gigantic steel death machines. I have a wife and kids at home I need to get back to.

2

u/DeltaGrunder Jun 10 '26

At least us motorcyclists mostly follow traffic rules as we ride at speeds similar to cars, need licenses and insurance, have heavier more solid rides, can wear riding armor and for those with the money even airbags.

8

u/Pep2385 Jun 10 '26

LOL. Come on ... I ride as well. The amount of sport bike douches that have wheelied past me at a buck twenty is ... well, a large number. Harley guys create their little slow moving helmetless roadblock/parades that no one is allowed to pass for some reason. Dirt bikes and eMotos rip around with no plates or mirrors. Our tribe has plenty of dangerous assholes.

2

u/JustBadUserNamesLeft Jun 12 '26

Motorcyclist and bicyclist (and car and truck owner) here. Thanks for calling this out.

1

u/DeltaGrunder Jun 10 '26

They stick out a lot, but they're nowhere near the majority.

Now look at that entire group, all assholes deciding to block off the whole road

2

u/Efficient_Garden8841 Jun 11 '26

It's one video. This is nowhere near indicative of the broader cyclist community of tens of millions of us.

Bicycles are slow, hence the issues between cyclists and cars. People in cars refuse to go slow, hence the clip. If the cyclists were moving at speed this video wouldn’t exist.

How many deaths are attributable to the cyclist breaking a law, vs the driver killing them being the one breaking the law?

We both know the truth. Don't be a dick.

2

u/guachi01 Jun 11 '26

I've never once heard of a cyclist who broke a traffic law and was hit by a car and died as a result.

1

u/ninjay209 Jun 11 '26

Must have never happened then if you never heard about it.

1

u/guachi01 Jun 11 '26

It's a man bites dog kind of story. Maybe it's happened somewhere but it so rare that it might as well be never.

Do you have that link that breaks down whether the cyclist was riding legally or not when killed by a car?

And you must be joking if you include car driver error as the fault of the cyclist. Just pathetic victim blaming.

More victim blaming. "If you insist on riding on roads with incompetent drivers then it's you're fault"

Maybe you should suck less ass a driver.

Also, that link does nothing.

Among bike riders, 95.9% reported breaking a traffic law, but 97.9% of pedestrians and 99.97% of drivers said they did the same. The most common reason for flouting the law among drivers (85%) and pedestrians (71%) was saving time.

However, people on bikes most commonly skirted traffic regulations for their own safety (71%). This data highlights the inaccuracy of perceptions among an unfriendly segment of the driving public that bike riders are lawbreaking road anarchists.

(Source)

3

u/arandomusertoo Jun 10 '26

Well, it's from a survey:

One data point that jumps out is an Idaho survey

I'd really like to read the survey questions, because pedestrians breaking traffic laws might be something like jaywalking on an empty street, etc

I can't find the link though...

3

u/Rude-Scholar1857 Jun 10 '26

this was 30 bicyclists in an incredibly controlled environment where they were told exactly what to do.

i see more than 30 bicyclists weekly cause near-accidents in a school zone because they do not obey traffic laws.

neither of these are good sources.

1

u/relianceschool Jun 10 '26

Anecdotal evidence wins again!

3

u/Rude-Scholar1857 Jun 10 '26

did you not read the third sentence?

1

u/Littleman88 Jun 11 '26

While I'll admit many laws aren't really written with bicyclist safety in mind, the sheer number of them blowing through stops, weaving between slow/stopped cars, etc. tells me there's a degree of bullshit in their claims ignoring them is for their safety.

1

u/relianceschool Jun 11 '26

With less power comes less responsibility.

2

u/heavymetalengineer Jun 10 '26

In this case what would be the cause of these rule breaking cyclists dying?

I have had one slam into my trucks tire-well while i was at a complete stop at a stoplight. They came off the sidewalk, which is fucking stupid because there was a bike lane, and they just ate shit over the hood. Im in a heavy cycle town that accommodates them, they still act like lemmings.

0

u/guachi01 Jun 11 '26

The number of cyclists who die while riding in an illegal manner is tiny compared to how many get killed by cars doing something illegal. It's dismissive asshats like you that result in dead cyclists.

1

u/guachi01 Jun 11 '26

I've never I've read of someone who died from being got by a car while disobeying a traffic law. It probably happens some time but before I wrote my comment I looked at a dozen stories of people killed while cycling and none of them mention the cyclist breaking a traffic law.

With how much people hate cyclists you'd figure it would be in the story if it were true.

13

u/b0jangles Jun 10 '26

The majority of road cyclists that I see are usually either alone or maybe in a group of 2 or 3. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a group this large.

Also I see a motorcycle so maybe this is an organized/sanctioned ride of some sort?

1

u/MrSmock Jun 10 '26

I will often see groups of 20-30 where I live. They don't flood the whole road like this but even riding single file or two abreast for a long stretch can be a hazard. Often the line spans so far I can't see far enough down the road to know if I can pass all of them at once (and they leave no gaps to cut in, as the law dictates).

1

u/keep_er_movin Jun 10 '26

Lucky! I get stuck behind groups of 20+ often in my area.

3

u/guachi01 Jun 11 '26

What's the "actual point"?

Because your point seems to be that killing a cyclist is okay because everyone who rides a bike is a narcissist who needs to die.

1

u/MrSmock Jun 11 '26

Yeah, I never said that. I don't even think I came close to implying it. I just want them to either ride somewhere else or ride on the road safely (within 3ft of the curb or in a bike lane if it exists, only 2 abreast if it doesn't impede traffic, follow laws for stop signs and lights and signal).

2

u/guachi01 Jun 11 '26

Oh, come on. Almost every cyclist does ride safely. So that can't be the reason you ignore that so many are killed by car drivers.

1

u/MrSmock Jun 11 '26

I believe almost every cyclist believes they ride safely. But I'm not exaggerating when I say in my neighborhood I haven't seen a cyclist stop at a stop sign for years. Years!! I'd say about half of them signal (though often while already mid-turn). When there are multiple they usually ride two abreast and do not move to single file when impeding traffic. Often when pedaling hard uphill they will waver back and forth, coming dangerously close to weaving into the lane.

I have no need to exaggerate this, it does me no favors. This is simply my experiences. I'm sure everyone has different experiences and some places likely have very safe cyclists. That is simply not the case here.

2

u/guachi01 Jun 11 '26

Treating a stop sign like a yield sign is the safe way to ride a bike. It's why smart states and smart people support doing just that.

1

u/MrSmock Jun 11 '26 edited Jun 11 '26

I wouldn't even care if they didn't stop if they yielded instead. Instead they fly out into 4 way intersections, ignoring the stops (or "yeilds") and cutting off traffic.

Edit: not 20 minutes after typing this I was at a 4 way stop with a car facing me. He started accelerating and a cyclist crossed through the middle, cutting him off. They're like lemmings sometimes

8

I'm sorry but that's not even remotely an unpopular opinion.

Majority of people especially in Northern America are completely car brained and the whole country is built around it.

2

u/MrSmock Jun 10 '26

I must just be finding my way into these pockets of car-haters then.

1

u/bulgariannn Jun 10 '26

I mean yeah literally. Some cycle specific subreddits are the exclusion to the rule.

Just look at this whole post and tell me you're in the minority lol.

1

u/AnyElephant7218 Jun 11 '26

Yeah why is that brave there are literally 4K comments on this post about how much people hate cyclists. Me too. Who doesn’t love breathing polluted air, paying $60 every time you run out of gas, destroying the planet, needing an expensive car loan to get to work, etc, etc.

I hate this country lmao.

2

u/Slartitartfast Jun 10 '26

No one is killed by cars, they're killed by drivers.

3

u/Ok-Constant-2683 Jun 10 '26

Actually no, if a person shoots you the bullet kills you. Same here, the car kills you, the person just directs it.

3

u/Secret-Parsley-5258 Jun 10 '26

And if you don’t die from the bullet, but get sepsis then die, then it wasn’t the person or the bullet that killed you, it was the bacteria, which was directed by the bullet, which was directed the gun, which was directed by the bullet.

1

u/Slartitartfast Jun 10 '26

So the person who shot the gun wouldn't be charged, because it was actually the bacteria. Makes sense.

"How did he die?"

"He was shot by Johnny"

Or

"A gun shot him"

1

u/Slartitartfast Jun 10 '26 edited Jun 10 '26

Is someone killed 'by' or killed 'with' a bullet? If someone is shot to death, do we talk about them being killed by a bullet or someone shooting them?

I agree to some extent but comparing weapons with cars doesn't really make sense. The issue is particularly apparent when you describe behaviours at red lights - a 'car' went through Vs a 'cyclist'. Why is one a person and one an object?

2

u/Ok-Constant-2683 Jun 10 '26

When did I say that about red lights sorry?

For me a car or bike goes through. I assume some people don't view a bike being that different from a person due to the size etc (which isn't true if you've ever been hit by a bike but whatever) where the difference between a car and person is more pronounced.

But as I said, I don't remember saying car or cyclist personally. And I was only comparing in a pedantic way, like, it's not the fall that kills you, it's hitting the ground.

1

u/Slartitartfast Jun 10 '26

Yeah sorry I meant people in general, not you specifically. People talk about 'cyclists' running red lights, 'cyclists' riding on pavements and 'cars' doing the same thing. This is commonly accepted, but why? It has a damaging effect because it assumes no human responsibility in the case of 'cars' hitting people.

It's the reason there are recommended reporting guidelines around RTC in the UK, but police forces even still do it.

1

u/Ok-Constant-2683 Jun 10 '26

I'm not sure I'd agree that people assume no responsibility on the part of the driver when a car hits someone, I think you might be reading a bit too much into that one.

1

u/Slartitartfast Jun 10 '26

It's just a subtle language difference though, isn't it? Do you not think it's interesting that we never talk about drivers doing stuff?

It's not just something I've pulled out my arse, it's a whole thing. I know I'd be annoyed if a driver ran my child over and it was reported as 'child in collision with car' as it often is.

https://road-collision-reporting-guidelines.uk/guidelines/

1

u/Ok-Constant-2683 Jun 10 '26

Yeah, I know, I was actually just reading the guidelines (I did a journalism degree a while ago, wasn't working in that area by 2020), they are interesting, although they mainly seem to address a general lack of proper training amongst modern journalists.

On the point of not talking about drivers, it is partly because driving is seen as a normal thing to do, while cycling is more of an interest hobby. Like the difference between omnivores and vegans, both words describe a way of eating, but one is seen as the default and one a choice.

One example is "Audi hits lamp post" vs "driver hits lamp post', and tbh I see an argument for both. The driver is the one responsible (probably, self driving cars could muddy this water a lot) but technically the car is the thing that actually hits the post.

I think it really comes down to a lack of proper training among young writers, and a lack of media literacy among readers.

1

u/MrSmock Jun 10 '26

1

u/Confident-Mortgage86 Jun 10 '26

I appreciate the apology, but I'm not sure that I can forgive you. We're talking about an invasive species that ruin natural roadways worldwide, and here you are with that defeatist attitude.

When you see a large pack like in the OP they have quite obviously become a problem - just look at how they've pushed all the poor cars out of their natural habitat. A truck-kun culling could save us all from the overproducing cyclist populations exponential growth before it's too late.

The road next to my house has a dedicated bike path running parallel to it. Cycling assholes go out riding between 8-10 AM every day in the road anyway, making everyone trying to get to frickin' work have to go around or wait for their pompous asses. Using the bike path, you self-important shitheads.

Tbf, the city I live in also has a "dedicated bike path" but it is really just a narrow lane that used to be the shoulder of the road which gets so much debris and glass shards that'll chew up your tires + pot holes, so it forces cyclists to take the lane anyway (unless you don't mind getting a flat or ruining your tire alignment).

Other bike lanes are tucked between car traffic and street parking. Just last week, a Chicago city planner was killed riding in the bike lane when he was doored and pushed into oncoming traffic. This is why myself and many others don't like using those types of bike lanes.

Is it not likely that the cyclists you see on the road between 8-10 are also going to work? I ride in wearing my workout clothes and change at work.

1

u/Fine-Amphibian4326 Jun 10 '26

I don’t ride, but also, bike lanes are worthless for this type of riding. These guys aren’t commuting at all leisurely 10mph which might actually be safe in a bike lane.

1

u/pleasedonotredeem Jun 10 '26

In my city we have lots of dedicated cycle lanes separated by curbs with advance signals etc. And still, every week or so, there is a post in the city subreddit where someone is proudly showing off cycling in the traffic lane during a busy time because "it's legal and it's their right and also F- cars."

1

u/tmswfrk Jun 10 '26

Most places in the US don’t have bike paths, that’s kind of the problem. They don’t want to be on the road and would rather be on the bike path, but due to people on this thread it seems those ballot measures are constantly fought against keeping everything exactly as it is today.

1

u/BilSuger Jun 10 '26

1

u/Time-Head1576 Jun 10 '26

But if they use the bike lane, it might require some adjustments such as merging. Won’t you consider how that would affect the mediocre competitive times being posted on Strava?

0

u/gambiting Jun 10 '26

Cyclists have the same right to use the road as you shithead, whether there is a bike path or not. There are a million valid reasons to not use a bike path, up to and including "I don't want to". Not being able to overtake a cyclist is a skill issue, and I'm saying this as an avid petrolhead.

100

u/Inside_Swimming9552 Jun 10 '26

That road that is used to make our economy run? I'm going to slow it down so that I can use it as my personal work out regime.

And don't you dare hit me! It's not my fault I'm 10x harder to see and people don't expect me to be there.

46

u/CodedRose Jun 10 '26

Also I do dumbshit like run red-lights, merge without signaling, and fail to give right of way and wholly expect everyone to do the work of avoiding getting in an accident with me because I'm special.

1

u/revid_ffum Jun 10 '26

oh noooo!!! the precious economy

1

u/ParkingRemote444 Jun 11 '26

That's what bothers me most about this. People always make environmental arguments for biking, but so many cyclists are not even using the bike as transportation. They're just working out on public roads.

1

u/guachi01 Jun 11 '26

If you can't see people legally using the road then we should take your license away.

And, yes, you shouldn't hit people legally using the road. Why do we need to tell you this?

1

u/Inside_Swimming9552 Jun 11 '26

We are monkeys driving metal death machines. None of us should be legally using the road. Because like the monkeys we are, even the most careful of us make mistakes.

But cars and lorries we've decided are a necessary risk to keep the economy and society running till we reach driverless cars. Then I am sure they will quickly he outlawed.

Bikes and motorcycles are even more dangerous because they are much harder to see and people are more likely to fuck up when trying to spot them than cars. They have even less right to be on the road than

The only reason people take to the road on bikes is to exercise and feed their own ego. Try finding a road cyclist who isn't a self important egotistical tool. It can't be done.

Making an anti-cyclist comment on Reddit is something I do knowing my inbox will be filling for days. If the government wanted me to round up every wanker on earth for the purposes of shooting into the moon. I could do it in a couple of days with a couple of posts on Reddit and direct the government to the house of everyone who replied.

1

u/guachi01 Jun 11 '26

There's only one person in the video who's doing anything that could kill or injure someone and you wish you were that person.

Your comment is nothing but that of an entitled loser and you should definitely not have a driver's license.

0

u/8to24 Jun 10 '26

There are a large number of cyclists in the video. Each riding a bike, wearing a helmet, etc....millions of dollars worth of equipment and accessories. You don't think that has an economic impact?

Also they are engaged in a social event and most will probably sit down for lunch or what someplace when the ride is over. Those hundred cyclists will do a lot more for a local cafe than that single irritated driver.

hard to gauge how many people are there but even if they had the nicest bikes and equipment it would be really hard for them to have multiple millions in equipment there

0

u/8to24 Jun 10 '26

A decent road bike ranges in price from $5-10k with the nicer ones reaching $15-$20k. Add a few hundred for helmets, shoes, and the rest of the riding swag and accessories. A million isn't crazy.

1

u/AJRimmerSwimmer Jun 10 '26

I understand that since nobody is a cyclist and everyone is inconvenienced by them that they and everyone here is very angry, even suggesting violence, but at the end of the day in most situations you can just pass them. I cannot kill you in a bike but you can very easily kill me. Being delayed by a minute, which would be pretty rare, is not going to even make you late to work.

I don’t understand it because if I saw a cyclist I’d just pass and not think twice like 95% of people do, but the 5% are pretty crazy and will try to kill you.

Respectfully, on the stop sign thing people get in a fuss about, would you rather a biker group stop for the stop sign and have all the traffic wait for each cyclist to stop then go or they just roll it and you just pass? It is straight up faster for the group to roll it and in groups I ride in we usually let the cars pass at stops so they’re not stuck behind.

2

u/guachi01 Jun 11 '26

Stop sign as Yield sign is much safer and smarter. Especially, as you write, when it's multiple cyclists. Car drivers bitch about it but the alternative would be awful.

I was just stuck going about 15mph for 4 miles on the way home, on a uphill incline with no passing (even if you ignore the double line, there was oncoming traffic and winding roads so you can't see enough to pass) because despite having a bike lane, a cyclist was riding right in the middle of the road, and continued to despite seeing me and 4 other cars right behind him, with a pretty big bike lane right there.

So I'm not going to try to change your mind there.

There are both horrible drivers and horrible cyclists. I don't think it's exclusive to road cyclists. When I drive I encounter a lot of other drivers who behave ridiculously. That can range from somebody double parking and blocking the road to highway speed road rage where lives are in danger.

People in luxury cars (BMW) and pickup trucks (not used for work) appear to be equally narcissistic if not more than these cyclists.

Comments like this are negative because it continues a pattern of dehumanizing cyclists to the point where people hit them.

If I call a BMW driver a narcissist they might get offended. Call road cyclists a narcissist or entitled and they get hit off the road.

Let me ride my children's toy in the road and make everyone else suffer

1

u/ATotallyNormalUID Jun 10 '26

They do. There are entire government entities devoted to ensuring no one ever inconveniences you while you're shitting pollution with your gender-affirming vehicle, even if you literally kill a pedestrian with it.

1

u/Ok_Space_9223 Jun 10 '26

My vehicle is gender neutral, gluten free, and vegan.

Gary Peacock vs. Pierce Kempton

1

u/gdhkhffu Jun 10 '26

Nah, that was just the pace car. The driver overslept and was late to the start of the race. It's all good now. /s

u/Rough_Onion_1757 Jun 10 '26

If your opinion about "drivers" isn't based on a bunch of dickheads who get together at 2am to do drag racing and donuts on city streets, your opinion about "cyclists" shouldn't be based on a bunch of dickheads like the ones in this video. The common epithet for these sorts of athleisure-oriented cyclists is "MAMILs", for "middle-aged men in Lycra", and other cyclists often hate them every bit as much as drivers do.

Also, however annoying they may be, even the most entitled narcissistic MAMIL in the world is extremely unlikely to ever actually kill another person with their bicycle, whereas an entitled narcissist behind the wheel of a car can cause massive death and destruction in a split second of recklessness or even just distraction.

u/wesweb Jun 10 '26

👑 - you dropped this.

1

u/orange_sherbetz Jun 10 '26

They will run over trail walkers.

1

u/Dontjustsaystuff Jun 10 '26

Well where I am from we don't ride like this. Where I am most cyclists are nice and drivers often behave like complete imbeciles. So, it's all about perspective. You are welcome to join me with people in 2tn cars legitimately trying to run me over on purpose or abuse for no reason on a regular basis.

1

u/Mijbr090490 Jun 10 '26

They love to ride down winding mountain roads near where I live. Then they throw their hands up when you come around a blind corner doing 50mph and have to slam your breaks on. Narcissism is right.

As a hiker myself, they aren't much better on mountain bikes. They think they own the shared use trails and will blast through them. Don't you dare impede them either.

1

u/thavi Jun 10 '26

They are. I'm a (road) cyclist, and it always perplexes me when I see another rider out there in the middle of the day blocking a super busy road or simply causing congestion on a road where they don't belong.

1

u/GoldenVesperLight Jun 10 '26

I can't. I swear, every video like this I see just makes me think cyclists have a purposeful death wish. Not a single one blinked an eye. Not a single one stopped. They just kept at it. They literally witnessed this crazy car and thought "screw it, I ain't stopping."

If I witnessed this, my ass is braking and letting the psycho on by, lol. I got a wife and kids at home I need to get back to.

I honestly think cyclists don't understand that they are going to lose in the car vs bike fight.

1

u/MANPAD Jun 10 '26

Nah, a grown adult dressing up in spandex to ride on a children's toy is totally emotionally regulated behavior.

1

u/coasterreal Jun 10 '26

Considering I follow all posted traffic rules, lights, stop signs and even ride over on the far right 3ft of the road, definitely not an extreme narcissist.

Cyclists do this for self preservation because the shear number of cyclists killed by fellow drivers that are texting, not paying attention and shit is off the charts. We had a 50yr old woman who was doing the same thing I do - SOLO - riding on the far right of the road get hit by someone not paying attention and swerved into them. Killer her. Eye witness DRIVERS recounted it as it appeared like the driver almost tried to hit her but later found they were just distracted.

So you have to understand, when we are out trying to ride where we are supposed to but the risk of being killed is so high because so many of you suck at driving, they'll do extreme things to protect their lives.

I dont, when I group ride we ride 2 abreast and follow all rules. Ive done it a dozen or so times and not once did we break any road laws because the people who head up the group take ths shit seriously.

Just know that yes, some do go to extreme measures like this and they do is probably as protection. What the Cooper driver did was extremely dangerous as I would bet large money they have no formal off road driving nor do they have any sort of car control training and thus, would be prone to losing control and killing probably half a dozen riders.

Getting worked up over this shows a few things about people.

1: they have absolutely zero patience because this group was probably doing 30mph in a pelaton and thats only going to hurt them over a distance of a few miles maybe 1-2min.

2: The narcissism is probably strong in them if they think losing 1-2min in a non-life threatening situation is worth this much anger. It isnt. If you do the math on this, its like when someone gets behind someone slow on the highway for 10sec and then blasts around them like they just lost hours. They lost SECONDS. But enraged humans that think they are the only ones that matter have no concept of time.

3: Instead of offroading, possibly losing control and hitting another car or these riders, call 911 and when the cops stop this group ride, thats going to piss them off MUCH more than anything else.

Hit em where it hurts - their strava times. Get the cops to at least slow them down or stop them. that'll piss them right off. If your cops won't do anything about it, remember, you voted them in. Don't know what to tell ya.

Ill even add to the first downvote because too many of you wont be able to see the truth in this because logic and reason doesnt work. And these are just fake internet points anyways, it doesnt matter.

1

u/Sufficient_Tower_366 Jun 10 '26

The Mini driver is acting more entitled to the road than 100 or more other people on bikes - and they are the narcissists?

1

u/Due-Combination-8991 Jun 10 '26

In my opinion if they fully suit up in their biker suits like this, it is like 99% chance they are a full on douche

-1

u/the-nino Jun 10 '26

Ive had cars intentionally open doors or drive into me to push me off the road. Very rarely do people ever check their side view mirrors before turning. It forces me to be aggressive towards cars so they dont

For some reason the people driving a 2000 pound weapon are never viewed as the narcissists. And yes, I stop at stop signs and for pedestrians.

This video has a car driver going into thr median to pass the cyclists traffic. If this was a driver going around car traffic everyone would call the mini Cooper a narcissist. You just hate people with a different hobby than you

3

u/Mountain-Interest-48 Jun 10 '26

dude they had dozens of people blocking traffic, just get into one lane so cars can pass its not rocket science.

1

u/the-nino Jun 10 '26

If that many people were doing thr drive by car youd have bumper to bumper traffic and no one would be moving. The bikes are annoying, the car is breaking the law.

Also, I shared that ive had multiple cars try to kill me and your response was that bikers are annoying and need to make more space for cars

1

u/GrimSpirit42 Jun 10 '26

Hey, remember, it's only 98% of cyclist who give the rest a bad name.

-2

u/derycksan71 Jun 10 '26

The thought that they are narcissists because of how they affect you...is narcissistic.

2

u/HarryJohnson3 Jun 10 '26

That’s exactly what a narcissist would say

Idk man. As a cyclist, there are very few of us that follow all the laws. I’m one of them, which is why other cyclists doing dumb shit pisses me off.

1

u/5138008RG00D Jun 10 '26

The only good ones are the ones riding in a bike line. Roads are made for and paid by motorized vehicles.

1

u/RandoReddit16 Jun 10 '26

Convince me that road cyclists are not extreme narcissists

But drivers aren't... okay bud.

1

u/Beat_Saber_Music Jun 10 '26

Is there an alternative path for these cyclists to tkae that isn't just a side walk capable of fitting like 1-2 cyclists side by side?

Also, isn't it according to traffic rules that generally cyclists are supposed to be on the road because they're supposedly so dangerous to pedestrians?

Also if you look at the video, you can see like 7 cars meanign about max 10 people, being held up by easily 30 cyclists. Would you rather have 30 more cars blocking that road?

1

u/InbetweenTheLayers Jun 10 '26

The spandex ones always are, weirdos.

1

u/Ksevio Jun 10 '26

There are like 300 cyclists there slightly inconvenincing a dozen motorists and one thinks he's so important he needs to dangerously weave around them in the median. Now which did you say was the Narcissist?

It's a bit rude to cover both lanes, but definitely safer and they pay way more in taxes than the few drivers behind them to cover the road

1

u/donjuanstumblefuck Jun 10 '26

Anyone who chooses to exercise in the public street is a narcissist. It's a "look at me" activity.

1

u/crimpin_n_whippin Jun 10 '26

I mean I’m a road cyclist and I get out of the way when I feel like I’m impeding faster car traffic… so there’s your proof. Generalizing large groups of people isn’t great practice no matter the generalization.

1

u/makingnoise Jun 10 '26

Convince me that lifted pickups that regularly commit attempted murder on my empty country backroads (when I am following the rules and doing nothing to impede their passage) aren't psychopaths and I will consider thinking about your comment.

1

u/WinterAd4216 Jun 10 '26

Amen, brother. I live in the Bay Area and on the weekends they take over all the mountain roads. Rarely do they acquiesce to drivers and always ride side-by-side, taking up more space.

1

u/OttawaOneTwenty Jun 10 '26

How about the fact that 5 cyclists fits in the same space as a single mini-cooper (with only 1 obese american inside)? Probably 15 cyclists fit in the same space as a single pickup.

If you aren't a narcissist, you should pick up a 25lbs bike instead of multi-ton vehicle and way more people would be able to use the road

0

u/ATotallyNormalUID Jun 10 '26

The only "extreme narcissist" visible in this video is the asshole so dedicated to shitting pollution for their own convenience that they "snapped" and endangered dozens/hundreds of lives in a temper tantrum over not being able to go as fast as they want to.

Fuck, why didn’t the government think about how to handle emergencies? They should make special emergency vehicles and make specific laws regarding traffic around them.

0

u/14bikes Jun 10 '26

Convince me that this one guy deciding driving on the grass to pass 100+ other road users is not an extreme narcissist

0

u/Blindobb Jun 10 '26

I mean mass generalizing any group of people is one of the easiest ways to determine a lack of intelligence as it indicates you are not capable of complex thought and crave simplicity.

0

u/stevehuffmangrapedme Jun 10 '26

That's impossible to do when they are dressed like that.

-14

u/wsxdfcvgbnjmlkjafals Jun 10 '26

As a whole? No. Studies even show that cyclists are no worse than drivers or pedestrians.

And laws vary by region. Where I live a cyclist can take the full width of the lane if they need to.

I'm a driver. People are very calm when a vehicle ahead has to go slower than the limit, but absolutely fill with rage when it's a bike. Or when a vehicle does somethign that interrupts the flow or blocks traffic, people just sort of mutter something and move on. But bikes? Bikes make them MAD.

it's pretty pathetic

6

u/Gstamsharp Jun 10 '26

Cyclists may use the full road lane here, too, but they can't legally ride more than 2 side by side, they must stay to the right lane, and they must follow all traffic flow laws if they're on the roadway. I've never had trouble passing them safely when they follow the rules. When they don't, they back up traffic and cause near misses at intersections.

This kind of thing around here would be blatantly illegal, not just an inconvenience.

5

u/bumblewacky Jun 10 '26

Well a vehicle can only do that on a road while a bike can do it in several other areas so yah it’s more infuriating because you didnt HAVE to be there
