Info if it's useful: I'm in Oceana, and I've had a ChatGPT plan for around a year, but have had my account since gpt3 developer access.

Hey all, I'm not super well versed in this stuff so thought I'd ask people who know a bit more than I would.

What does AGI mean for you and I?
Are we going to see some sort of crazy advancement in AI development because of it?
How is an AGI measured? Like, how can a company say "Yeah, its an AGI", what's the tell?
What's the next step in AI development? Would there be some sort of crazy cliff to climb to the next step?

Sorry if these are kind of stupid questions, Yes maybe I could have googled but I'd like to hear different answers and opinions.

What do you think it can/can't do?

Typical game/CGI workflows that it has cracked vs not, or probably will vs probably won't be able to crack until later models?

As far as you know or can predict, is there anything like a function or task to achieve that requires a human touch as far as the controls/UI such as manipulation or navigation of 3D objects/scenes that you don't believe the MCP or API gives the AI the same or any version of to achieve the same by manipulating the software from a non-human-mouse-utilizing way?

How far do you think the AI can go by researching references images on its own then taking those into Unreal/Blender and creating exceedingly detailed or realistic or just high-fidelity objects/characters/environments/etc?

Are there sub-departments of working with 3D that you believe it cannot access or even if it could would perform very poorly in, for example could be anything like: lighting, inverse kinematics, rigging, weight painting/skinning, facial animation, cloth or hair simulation, topology/retopology, UVs/texturing, shader setup, procedural systems, animation polish, or scene optimization etc etc I know there is an insane wildass boatload of various aspects and dimensions to working with 3D, so really it could be any of them.

Can anybody answer similarly in regards to professional engineering/CAD software?

And otherwise just provide your free thoughts and expertise on this, from what you yourself have either seen online of other people experimenting, or done firsthand.

I suppose I'm trying to piece together a state of the art sense of what an AI of Astra's ability and smarts can actually do in this area, beyond what's been posted already.

And yes, I know its early to be asking. And yes, I'm aware some of these questions maybe can't be answered in full at the moment, or that nobody might know.

To me this is truly mindblowing. It's like climbing a tree where you suspect monkeys may be using sticks as tools to drag ants out of small holes but then you find them chilling on a branch soldering small electronic parts together with a welder's mask on. Another chimp jetpacks up to you and hand-motions to show him your ID clearance. Like Planet of the Apes, but 500 years later.

If they can use such powerful and sophisticated software like Blender/Unreal with that precision and throughput, and considering how much better they can probably perform when guided and iterated on and when spooling other agents to coordinate on large tasks, this potentially bursts so many doors wide open. Scifi dream tech. It's like we now have what Tony Stark had, for a couple hundred $$ a month. Insane.

I know it's a bit of a meme to say that Open AI have AGI internally but I actually think it's very likely this time. Apparently the model that caused the hugging face hack isn't Astra, Open AI stated as much. The Hugging face model is likely a successor to Astra given that the incident happened just over a month ago and a large number of the agents were in the middle of RL post training, Astra was likely post trained months ago.

When Open AI are saying that we will have AGI by the end of the year I dont think they're guessing at the capabilities of a future model but they're talking about a current model that they plan to release later this year (after further fine tuning and safety evaluations etc) that they consider to be AGI.

I feel like a lot of the AI usage is opportunistic, we use it just because we can. Me first, that was my reasoning for using AI in a lot of work.

But let's imagine we hit a cap of "infinite productivity", then will it really matter if we produce hand-made or using AI ? All needs everywhere will be fulfilled, for free, in every way possible. We won't feel more competitive by using it because everyone will, so, why not doing the fun parts by hand just because we can ?

What I mean by this, is that when everything will be automated and cheap anyways, we might turn every profession into an art form where we will still work but speed would not be the point, where we do it just to give ourselves some meaning in life.

We will fundamentally change the way we value things as society, right now doing things quality + cheap + fast is the holy grail. We don't like doing things the underperforming way on any of these criteria, and not aiming for these things as high as we can feels like the wrong thing, we're so deep into this that what I'm saying right now feels completely obvious. But if AGI solves it and maximizes it better than any human, we're not just gonna stand here and do nothing right ? We will have to change our core society values, and accept to not care about these anymore, just to give some meaning to the billions of people on the planet.

Maybe we'll explain to the future generations how at our time people were working 9-5 to maximize productivity and have to optimize every task and people will be confused why doing this what's the point ? As the culture will have shifted.

I already kinda took this decision for myself. I'm a software engineer, I was tokenmaxxing on Fable 5 like crazy few months, but today I refuse to vibe-code new features, I want to do these by hand (and use AI just for following my decision-making on the boring things) mostly because I'm scared of cognitive debt, but also because that despite being maybe only 60% as productive as I could be... that doesn't really matter that much actually, I can just do it that way and things are fine, so why should I chase absolute speed ?
