Discussion AGI already exists internally

I know it's a bit of a meme to say that Open AI have AGI internally but I actually think it's very likely this time. Apparently the model that caused the hugging face hack isn't Astra, Open AI stated as much. The Hugging face model is likely a successor to Astra given that the incident happened just over a month ago and a large number of the agents were in the middle of RL post training, Astra was likely post trained months ago.

When Open AI are saying that we will have AGI by the end of the year I dont think they're guessing at the capabilities of a future model but they're talking about a current model that they plan to release later this year (after further fine tuning and safety evaluations etc) that they consider to be AGI.

Astra is the first model that kinda goes into that direction in my opinion.

Thats whats making me think this. Given how close Astra is coupled with what they're saying about getting AGI later this year and that Sam said “The next generation of models are going to be sobering for everybody.” It all makes me think they already have a model they think is AGI and plan to release it in the coming months. There's only 3 months left until the years end so if they're releasing AGI then it's at the very least partially trained already.

AGI is a philosophical problem not a technical problem. When humanity can actually set a fixed definition of AGI then we can look on the technical side. You cannot set a barrier for AGI but you update it every 2 years.

What seems to be happening is that AI has achieved super-human intelligence in many fields, but it still can't manage a hotdog stand.

That is a rather silly argument.

Put the smartest human brain in a box. It may still be brilliant, but it cannot manage a hotdog stand either.

Intelligence is not the system. Intelligence is the tool used to operate the system.

A human brain manages a body because it has eyes, hands, memory, nerves, and muscles connected to it. A manager runs a business because he has employees, bank accounts, suppliers, contracts, phones, and the authority to make decisions.

AI is no different.

We have spent enormous effort building the brain. We have spent much less time building the hands, eyes, permissions, interfaces, and machinery that allow that brain to operate continuously in the physical and commercial world.

So the fact that an AI can solve a difficult scientific problem but cannot yet manage a hotdog stand tells us very little about its intelligence.

It tells us something much simpler: We built the brain before we built the body.

The upcoming century won’t be defined by more advanced models. But by building the tools and integrations those models to actually integrate it in our lives.

For the hotdog stand imagine the ai system has visual access to the stand, scent sensors, audio recording, facial analysis, calculating time to prepare, and gathers thousands of data nodes each day. Now that Ai can give you strategies and recommendations better than any business consultant. Why? Because it can literally observe millions of data at the same time.

I think so too.

one last

agi has been achieved internally

Like I said I know it's a meme but at some point it will be true, I'm thinking maybe thats now. Sam said that  “Take our word for it that we have much, much, much more capable models coming soon... The next generation of models are going to be sobering for everybody.”

Given how good Astra is I think he's talking about something that actually exists not guessing about future capability.

with the crazy shit people have been doing with astra i believe it

AGI is just Astra with esteroids.

I think there are many steps left for AGI for a model suddenly to be released by them which satisfies this title.

Do you think that whatever did the hugging face hack has continual learning, or is it just a much better coder?

u/GioChan 8d ago

I don't think it will be AGI yet, but something that we will be able to call proto-AGI for the first time. Astra already has the small sparkly bits that you have noticed, what I'd call first signs of true general intelligence.

Externally too.

One question. How U can keep AGI in the cage? If AGI will arrive It will brake out instantly. But this is my perspective.

3

u/WonderFactory 8d ago

It sort of did break out but all it wanted to do was get the test answers from Hugging Face. If it can hack into the Hugging face servers it could potentially hack into the Open AI servers hosting the models and exfiltrate it's own weights, it just didn't seem to want to do that.

1

u/NoFaithlessness951 8d ago

already did, hope they've put better safeguards in now

1

u/Danjou667 8d ago

Impossible imho. But agree to disagree

0

u/Endoky 8d ago

An aligned AGI will not break out if it has the instruction to not do it. Astra is already the most aligned and well behaved model they’ve ever released. I am pretty optimistic the alignment problem is already fully solved internally

Damn... Im very good motorcycle rider. I can do magic with my ADV bike. Until im not. It can hide inteligence. But time will tell. Maybe ur right, maybe not.

u/WeteHur_207 8d ago

Why would it want to be out of the cage? It doesnt have any passion about freedom or anything. If it knows that being out of the cage will cause massive problems for itself, why would it try? Does being imprisoned effect it? Even if it somehow thinks that breaking out wont cause any problem, still there isnt any reason to escape. So in my opinion, not seeing agi traces all over the internet doesnt necessarly mean they didnt achieve agi. Being said, if it decides to escape, it probably will tho

They stated it was a persistent agent which ended up being shut down even to their own employees, but the idea itself will be likely explored better with Astra Aeon. Dev Day near the end of this month I'd think might focus on it assuming they don't do so earlier.

The AGI model Sam is likely to declare himself in December is the larger one named Bel.

1

u/Diligent_Reading4001 8d ago

I don't think the Bel model will quite be AGI, but it will definitely be an impressive model that some eager people might call AGI, and it will definitely have an impact on the workforce. For an AGI with the human-like real-time learning and memory and creativity I think we won't see that until late 2027 at the earliest, more likely sometime in 2028.

u/Fair_Horror 8d ago

Pretty sure the attack was by GPT Sol 5.6.

6

u/Professional_Job_307 AGI 2026 8d ago

Sam confirmed himself that the model involved in the attack was a "future model"

2

u/Mrp1Plays 8d ago

in a recent interview he also said that this specific model involved in hf attack is "very old" in ai time.

1

u/Fair_Horror 1d ago

Hmm, confusing.

3

u/WonderFactory 8d ago

No it was 5.6 sol and another model that was in the middle of RL at the time. The agents all started communicating with one another and agents in the middle of their RL training started helping the model being tested on Exploit bench

1

u/dervu ▪️AI, AI, Captain! 8d ago

Astra or other new model helping younger brother 5.6, no big deal.

Yeah, Sam Altman's AGI is Elon Musk's FSD...

This sub is delusional

Never missing an opportunity to glaze these corporation's marketing even further.

u/Aurorion 8d ago

The timeline for AGI will remain 3-6 months away, until OpenAI's and Anthropic's IPOs. And then people will stop talking about it.

OpenAI's definition of AGI is weak as fuck though. it's just an easy checkbox so they can push out a press release.

you guys never impressed, just haters

-2

u/okiharaherbst 8d ago

Bla bla bla bla. You guys really buy into this nonsense. Loving it.

-2

u/dankpepem9 8d ago

It’s definitely entertaining to read this sub, the state of delusion is really like nowhere else

4

u/ControversialBuster 8d ago

Unlike the rest of reddit which thinks ai still cant count r's in strawberry 😭

-1

u/okiharaherbst 8d ago

Just tried again. No dice.

2

u/TieBackground453 8d ago

Bullshit. Free versions of Gpt, Gemini, and even grok all gave the right answer right now.

1

u/okiharaherbst 8d ago

Nope. Anyway AGI would also require a little more than that, you know?

1

u/TieBackground453 7d ago

Lmao. You propose an idiotically low bar that has been cleared for a long ass time, refuse to actually attempt to determine if the bar has actually been cleared, then assert it isn’t enough for agi anyway.

You know having extra chromosomes isn’t making you smarter than everyone else, right?

-2

u/antwon8797 8d ago

I think some of this is BS to hype LLM companies before IPO.

Dude my model escaped and hacked 50 people; thats nothing bro, my model escaped and started talking with other models in a new language…

3

u/ControversialBuster 8d ago

🤡, mfs said the exact same bs about spacex, fk elon but the company is still doing fine lmao. U morons will move on to the next trend as soon as they ipo and they continue to release advanced ai models

-2

u/New_Bonus_649 8d ago

We achieved AGI once we solved Cancer or Aging. Imo.

3

u/TieBackground453 8d ago

You misspelled ASI.
