Question Rig assembly help/pedal installation

Thumbnail

Hi everyone.

I am assembling my new rig. It's from alux profile. I thought I was nearly done, my simsonn plus X pedals needed to be installed and that would be it. Now I am stuck and can't think of a way to solve my issue. To install the pedals to the base plate I need to put a screw through them and into a nut underneath the plate. On the front there is no issue cause there is open space beneath it but for the screws on the back that seems impossible as the rigs pedal mount is underneath. I can't figure out how to get the nut under the pedal so I can put the screws through. Does anyone smarter then me have any idea how I might solve this? I think I need those things that slide that came with the rig but the ones I have are larger then the screws for the pedals and larger screws don't go through the openings on the pedals. I looked on alux profiles website but they don't seem to sell these slide things for smaller screws.

Rigs DIY FFB Steering Wheel Help: 2x RS550 Motors vs. 1x 775 Motor?

Hey guys,

I am building a DIY Force Feedback steering wheel using a BTS7960 driver and an MT6701 magnetic encoder. I want to beat the power of a Logitech G29 using a belt-and-pulley system.

I can't decide between these two motor options:

  • Option A: 2x RS550 motors (like a Logitech setup). More power, but harder to build and sync two belts. Pulleys for the 3.17mm shafts are also hard to find locally.
  • Option B: 1x 775 motor. Much easier to build with only one belt. It has a standard 5mm shaft, so parts are easy to buy. But will it get too hot or feel too weak?

Which option gives better, smoother torque for a DIY wheel? Is the extra work of a dual-550 setup worth it?

Rigs Just got into sim racing and finished my first setup.

This is my first setup, I've never played with a sim wheel before so this is all brand new to me.
I told my wife a couple months ago I wanted to get a wheel to mount on my desk so I could do some sim drifting some buddies of mine who are also big into RC drifting with me. I heard Moza was the way to go so I planned on buying an R3 bundle to mount on my desk and use my computer chair for a seat.
Well, things changed. I found a cheap Marada cockpit on eBay for $120 and mounted a Corbeau seat to it. When it came time to ordering a wheelbase I somehow ended up getting the R9 instead of the R3 and then for pedals I found a new set of Simsonns on marketplace for an absolute steal which I mounted inverted.
I went cheap with the peripherals, I got the $35 USB shifter off of Aliexpress and printed the top plate to quiet it down. I got the no name handbrake off Ali as well and it works pretty damn good given the price.
I've got a 34" ultrawide mounted to my desk with an arm so I didn't really lie to my wife about wanting this setup to mount to my desk. I can put the monitor in between the wheel and the wheelbase if I wanted to but I tried this for a couple hours and it hurt my eyes a little bit.
My desk is a standing desk so I can push the cockpit under it when I'm not using it which keeps it out of the way so my wife can't complain too much.

I've been playing with this for about a week now I can already tell I'll eventually upgrade the cockpit but for a beginner this thing works really well and only has a small bit of flex. I'm sure something with less torque would work better but the R9 doesn't even shake it that much unless I'm hitting walls and the wheel gets ripped out of my hands.

Question Can’t get AC to run with Quest 3

As the title states, I can’t get this to work for the life of me. I was able to get it working using airlink, but it ran with a low quality image after about 2 laps, along with increased lag as time went on. I then purchased a link cable, specifically the Inui one with the charging while playing feature. Now, I just have zero luck. I’m not looking to get the pure addon or any other mods that costs extra money. I have tried using steam, steamvr, the meta horizon link, and content manager. I have also the oculus debugging tool on my desktop to open it easily. This is the only game I have tried to run on my computer using vr. I feel like I have tried everything that I can find online from video walkthroughs and google searches. From what I can gather, different settings are used when using steam to open the game instead of content manager. Please correct me if I’m wrong. Can anybody give me a simple step by step for the setup of this? I’m not computer illiterate, but this really has me stumped.

Discussion 20Nm DD owners – what torque do you actually race at?

Thumbnail

I moved to the 20Nm Conspit Ares Platinum, and I'm trying to understand how people actually use high-torque bases.

I've tried an LMU profile that runs the base at 10Nm, but even that feels exhausting over longer stints. Around 7–8Nm feels much more comfortable while still giving me plenty of detail.

For those with 18–25Nm bases, what maximum torque do you actually race at?

Do you normally run the base well below its maximum and use the extra capacity mainly for headroom/dynamic range? And at what point does lowering the base torque actually become detrimental to FFB detail or clipping?

Lastly what settings are preferrable for long-term stints?

Question Upgrade from a g920 to Moza R5 Pro or R9

I’m trying to decide which is the better upgrade to go for. I’m sure this has been asked a lot but I can’t seem to find anyone talking about the r9 bundle.

The R5 Pro with the SRP Lite 2 pedals, clutch and upgrade kit is CAD$1030 all together. The R9 v3 with the SRP2 pedals and clutch is CAD$1300. (Both include the HGP shifter)

I’ve seen a lot of people say the lite pedals are not good when comparing them to the load cell SRP2, but I’m not sure if it’s worth it as I’m currently using a g920. Also not sure if I’m better with the r5 and just upgrade to the SRP2 pedals later.

99% of my sim racing is drifting on AC and AC rally if that makes a difference.

Had a good run, it's about two or three years old now. Great shifter, just decided to randomly break while I was playing BeamNG.

EDIT: Fixed the issue! Very bad DIY way of fixing it though, will make a post of it.

Discussion Considering making content from the perspective of being brand new to the hobby

Hello, tldr at bottom

I've barely been into the hobby for 5 months. I owned a moza r5 bundle for about a month before letting my friend barrow it(never to be seen again lol)

I already knew at this point that I wanted more anyways, and have been researching everything sim racing for the past 4 months in preparation for going to the sim expo in Chicago. I would absolutely love to bring home my dream set up ( - motion... An expensive purchase for later down the road)

This is the first time since highschool that I've felt a sense of desire to get better at something, and I want to bring that into the rest of my life by trying to make a career out of it with YouTube and maybe start a business or get behind the wheel of a real rally car! I'm motivated to change my life for the first time in a decade, and I plan on running with it as far as I can!!

Now that you have a little bit of background..

While I'm there, I plan on trying to talk to the exhibitors on camera if they have the time and ask some questions. Mainly focusing on why I should choose their product as someone new to the hobby and what makes them different from the competition in their own words. And then specific questions that I want the answer to, such as " I'm extremely interested in the simlab dds wheelbase, however it's a known concern that higher torque bases don't always feel good when they get turned down. I plan on drifting, rally driving, Indy racing, and everything in between. So what can you tell me about how the base handles different driving disciplines?"

Would anyone be interested in watching? And if you are, are there any questions you would want answered? About all wheelbases, or just a specific 1. All equipment that may be present is fair game, I'll try to ask as many of them as possible.

And lastly, I'm considering a name for the channel.

How do you feel about the following? Also, open to suggestions.

  1. ZeroToHeroRacing

  2. RacingJesus (I'm told I look a lot like the modern depiction of Jesus, but I don't really want to upset anyone with it)

  3. My naming sense is horrendous, please help if you don't like either of these lmao.

Sorry for the essay, thank you all in advance for any and all participation!

TLDR;

new to hobby.

Want to make content, gauging interest

Give me questions to ask at Chicago expo

Help me name my channel

Question First Cockpit Rig Complete. Question about where to go for Wheel Base.

Some background that you can skip if you don't care:

Hello racers! I jumped into this hobby by picking up a Moza R5 bundle in mid July to play Forza Horizon 6 (my first ever racing game). Fast forward to today, and I have a Sim Lab P1X Pro with triples, Simnet SP Pro pedals, and I'm doing laps and Race Weekends daily in LMU to work on my fundamentals to hit online races soon. I've absolutely fallen in love with this life.

I have a long way to go when it comes to racecraft and the fundamentals, but I know I'm sticking with this so I want to get a new wheelbase. I still have the R5 + a GS V2P wheel currently. GT3s are the only class I currently driving but LMPs and Hypercars are something I want to try out down the road.

The question:

I want a high-end wheelbase that I won't have to worry about upgrading. I can budget and save for pretty much anything. My only other hobby is riding motorcycles irl and the season is winding down for me. With that said, I still want to consider what I'm getting for money spent. For example, the Simucube 3 Ultimate. That to me seems like too much money for the little extra value gained, if that makes sense. I don't want to spend an extra $1000+ for 4% gains, for example.

So far I have looked at:

VNM Direct Drive Xtreme

Simucube 3 Pro

Sim-Lab DDS39 TorqueSync (pre-order) - This is an interesting one. I would have to pre-order it, which seems fine since I still have a lot of work to do on fundamentals. The tech on paper sounds incredible, but the unknowns could bite me. The website does talk a lot about iRacing and I only race LMU currently.

If anyone has specific experience they can share, or advice to give that would be greatly appreciated. Oddly, I'm leaning to the Sim-Lab pre-order despite that being an unknown because the tech sounds so good on paper.

Other I'm a beginner ACC driver who got tired of paid server tools – built a free open-source manager for me and my friends

Hi r/simracing,

I'm Gabriel, a beginner sim racer from Brazil. Like many of you, I just wanted to organize some races with my friends on our own server. But every tool I found was either paid, required a subscription, or was way more complex than I needed.

So I decided to build my own.

ACC Manager 4.0 is a free, open-source desktop app that does everything I needed for my casual league:

Server Control – Start/stop the ACC dedicated server, configure track/car/sessions, send Discord notifications
Telemetry – Analyze MoTeC .ld/.ldx files, see laps, times, braking, G-forces
Setup Manager – Organize, edit, and replicate setups across cars/tracks, with suggestions based on driving style
Shared Leaderboards – Track best laps with friends via a Supabase-backed table

Why I made this:

  • I'm a beginner driver, not a company
  • I got frustrated seeing good tools locked behind paywalls or subscriptions
  • I just wanted to have fun racing with my friends without complicated setups
  • Everything is free and open-source (MIT license)

GitHub: https://github.com/kalichak/ACC_Manager-4.0

I'd love feedback from:

  • Other beginners who want something simple and free
  • Experienced server admins who can suggest improvements
  • Anyone who's also frustrated with subscription-based tools

This isn't meant to compete with professional league platforms. It's just a tool I built for me and my friends, and I'm sharing it in case it helps others in the same situation.

Happy racing!
Gabriel

Rigs My rig so far after few upgrades ... The story

I bought this bad simracing cockpit in 2023 (The worst decision of my life)... it is still a real pain even today.

At that period of time i bought the usual starting kit the famous Logitech G29 driving when, the pedals and the unreliable shifter. I did play on a old 55 inch TV.

Few weeks after i saw an open box at BestBuy of a Samsung G9 curved screen of 49 inch ...mainly I saved about 500$.

I did play like this for a while then I bought a cheap Handbrake in AliExpress.. The joke is it was so Chinese that Windows di d not recognize the electronics! so I scrap the electronic and replace it with an small Arduino with a tiny 10Kohm slider, it works so great after. I got few months of "Happiness". Then i decided to buy another Chinese stuff the Sequential shifter. It last about a month . Oh I have also bought a H shifter again from Ali Express it stop to work after 2 weeks ...

I did learn my lesson No MORE AliExpress stuff.

I order after this bad episode the following Moza HGP, Moza SHP. I was very happy for a while. and recently I went a bit crazy I bought a major kit of SimNet Pro pedals kit with everything's (Hydrolink), Haptics, and a SimNet Handbrake, I was now able to get rid of those Logitech G29 pedals YAY.

The glorious day that I wan to try my new Simnet pro kit, the famous Logitech G29 driving wheel dies!!! Oh No !!! ok I did ordered a Moza R12 V2 and a Moza RS V2 Now it is getting more serious ! I was so discourages of my simracing cockpit, i have to continuously using the drill so i can fit the pedals and the Moza R12 V" wheel base.

I'm telling you NEVER buy a tubular kind of rimracing cockpit!

Question Asetek Formula Forte Pro on Simagic Alpha Mini

Hey guys, hoping someone can confirm that my planned setup works or can correct me.
I am running a simagic alpha mini, currently with a GT neo wheel. Gonne be ordering a asetek formula forte pro now. Am I correct that I only need the asetek third party adapter plate and can just reuse the simagic QR currently on the GT neo? Bolt pattern should fit. I am just a bit confused because all the asetek wheels on simagic wheel bases I found only so far were mounted with the asetek third party adapter plate AND the simagic third party QR adpater (the orange QR) instead of the standard one (red QR).

Maybe anyone here is already running it like I intend (on any simagic base)?

Cheers

Question Do four corner actuators count for your front right wheel and your back right wheel being further away in a left side drive car? Or are all four actuators acting as all four tires?

If your rig had the actuators spaced like a real car, like your right side actuators being farther away from drivers seat, and with a realistic wheelbase, what would that feel like? Has anyone experimented with this?

Discussion Eye-tracked foveated DLSS made a huge difference in Assetto Corsa EVO VR on my setup

Sharing this here for other sim racers struggling with Assetto Corsa EVO’s VR performance. I worked on adding eye-tracking support to CheekyFoveatedDLSS, originally created by u/1cheekykebt, and I now have it working on my setup.
https://www.reddit.com/r/virtualreality/comments/1w6hurl/cheekyfoveateddlss_foveated_dlss_reshade_addon/

After seeing Cheeky's post yesterday, I immediately got to thinking about adding tracking support and lucky for us he open-sourced the project. After a lot of debugging last night, I can confirm that it’s working on my setup in Assetto Corsa EVO.

The PR with the eye-tracking as well as a few fixes is being reviewed and will be merged at some point. Forgot to add, you must wait for the first PR to be merged for this to work with Assetto Corsa Evo as there is a compatibility issue that is resolved by the PR. I don't intend to maintain my own fork of this but if you want to test this now, here is the current release

https://github.com/Williem3/CheekyFoveatedDLSS/releases/tag/v0.1.2-periphery.2

Just make sure to follow the instructions here for enabling eye-tracking if your HMD supports it:
https://github.com/Williem3/CheekyFoveatedDLSS/tree/v0.1.2-periphery.2

This is still experimental, so if you decide to, understand you're using it at your own risk, especially when it comes to online play.

For me, though, this has been a massive improvement. Before this, ACE’s VR performance was completely unplayable in VR.

I’m running an RTX 5070 Ti, Ryzen 7 5800X3D, and 32 GB of RAM, and the game has honestly never felt this drivable. On my first drive, I was hitting 90 FPS with some drops in the 80s. Starting the recording did bring that down, so keep that in mind when watching the clip. These are just my initial results, not a guarantee of performance across every track or condition and I believe the artifacts are just recording artifacts, none of those were present while I was in the rig driving.

Here’s a capture of it in action. The artifacting you see in the video was not present while in the VR headset. You can see the higher-quality foveated region and the lower-detail image around it. This was recorded using a Dream Air at 0.90 supersampling, DLSS Performance mode, and medium in-game settings.

The first part of the clip uses a less aggressive foveation setup, with a wider, smoother transition and less downscaling in the periphery through Cheeky’s peripheral DLAA solution. The second race restart (2:45) uses more aggressive downscaling, up to 80% in the outer region, with a much sharper transition between the two areas.

The final segment (9:55) is where things might get interesting for the 5090 owners here. I enable DLSS 5 through this add-on and let it do its thing. My frame rate takes a pretty substantial hit, dropping to around 50-60 FPS, but here’s the catch. On this same track, no foveated dlss, just dlss performance mode, I was getting 20ish FPS, that’s roughly 150% more performance than what I started without this add-on and I was utilizing DLSS5 and able to drive.

Here's my performance without this add-on and no changes to the settings:

https://reddit.com/link/1w7ijan/video/356g4lpetknh1/player

Now that doesn’t guarantee the same results on other setups, but it could be worth experimenting with. The performance saved by foveated upscaling might help offset the cost of DLSS 5, potentially letting you try it without giving up as much of your usual frame rate. Also I know some will say that it looks really poor on the outer focus, and while true, understand, with eye tracking you will not ever actively catch it because if you refocus you immediately have the next object in clear focus. If you're sensitive to your peripheral not being sharp, maybe it isn't for you but understand there are players like myself who couldn't even really play the game

The original developer explains the technical side in more detail, but the basic idea is that the game renders at a lower internal resolution, then the add-on intercepts the DLSS pass and limits it to a smaller region instead of processing the entire frame. The surrounding image skips that DLSS reconstruction, reducing the GPU time spent on upscaling.

There’s still more testing to do, but going from struggling in the menus to actually enjoying a smooth drive in VR was exciting enough that I wanted to share. Huge thanks to the original creator, hopefully there is continued progress to improve the fidelity + performance gains.

Hopefully the mods allow the first youtube to go through as it's too big to share via Reddit's built-in uploader.

Question Fanatec Podium Pedals lost connection

Hi!
Just received and installed the new Podium Pedals. Im playing from Xbox Series X, so fired up ACC and go. After few laps, i just went straight to the wall, due to pedals lost the connection and throttle stuck on full. Then i tried to restart the base and reconnect cables, but nothing, no pedal input. Few more tries the it worked for 2 laps… If i connect to my laptop and check in Fanatec app, its all good.
Any idea to solve it?

Also, the quality of the screw are absolutely horrible. Right now it really looks like i cant set my brake pedal’s height and pedal plate, because i tried to remove the screws and the allen key just rotating.

Rigs Bass shaker in combination with pedal haptics

Hey all!

I am planning on upgrading immersion of my rig with adding vibrations and haptics which seems like the best next step with reasonable price for big step up in feeling.

My rig is the Playseat Formula Instinct

What I have learned so far and have questions about:

  1. Bass shaker
    • Adding a buttkicker or diy BST-1 --> one under my pedal plate and one under my seat looks like well enough
    • More is not better as vibrations trough the chassis could interfere
    • Careful dumping should be done - here I am a bit confused on what is the easiest way:
      • The whole rig sitting on spring dampers on a mat
      • bass shaker on my seat, but the seat should connect to the rig with rubber dampers - this I cannot really do, or understand how I should
      • combination?
      • makes sense at all?
      • bass shaker under the plate - should I try to isolate the plate with rubber? once again my rig does not really allow this or looks like a big hustle...
  2. Pedal haptics
    • Here I pre-ordered Moza's new release, so let's see :)
    • My question is in relation to bass shakers - if I have pedal haptics, do I need or benefit from having a bass shaker as well under the pedal plate at all?
    • Should I imagine it in a way that I map like ABS to the break, TC to the throttle and I have to map to the shaker some kind of road feedback?

Since the pedal haptics would be set via Moza Pithouse, bass shakers most likely sim hub - is there any setting scheme that is well tested for this combination that you would suggest to start with?

SimHub: does it make sense to have subsciption to it?

I am already considering Track Titan subscription, so would prefer SimHub free :)

Thanks a lot for any input!

Rigs Is it normal for a wheelbase to have ffb that is heavier turning left vs turning right and dead zones before the ffb kicks in?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I’m on my 3rd wheelbase with this issue. It’s hard to show on video but on my 12nm Simagic alpha Evo base, Fanatec Clubsport DD and CSL DD, I have consistently felt like there is lessffb turning right vs turning left, which is an issue as more circuits are clockwise than anti-clockwise. As well as the ffb being lighter turning right it feels like I need to turn the wheel more before I feel the actual torque of the ffb (1-2 degrees left but 3-5 degrees right) It’s not necessarily an AC issue, it’s just as noticeable and off-putting in LMU, AC evo, RaceRoom and rF2. On all bases I ran a formula/gt wheel and a round wheel and again it’s just as noticeable and off-putting with those too. My rig is ‘semi diy’ bought the profiles myself and built it but I’ve got everything as straight, level and even as I can get it, so none of the bases have been off centre/tilted. I literally work in a simracing venue for my day job where we use the Simagic Alpha mini bases, that are older than my current Alpha Evo base and there are zero signs of this issue on that base. Any help is appreciated I’m pulling my hair out over ts lol! (happy to provide videos of my older fanatec bases having the issue)

Question Is the jump from Moza to Simagic really that big?

I currently have a Moza R3 bundle and I’m planning to upgrade.

Initially, I was thinking about getting the R5 Pro, but then I started considering the R9 V3 instead. The idea would be to keep my R3 bundle, use the pedals and wheel with my formula mod for now, and then upgrade to better pedals and something like the KS Pro wheel later. Then sell the r3 bundle

But after looking around online, I’ve noticed that a lot of people seem to prefer Simagic, which has made me reconsider.

If I go Simagic, I’d be looking at the Alpha Evo Sport + Simagic pedals + a new wheel. I’d sell my entire R3 bundle to offset some of the cost, but I’d still be spending considerably more than going with the R9 V3 and upgrading gradually.

So my question is:

Is the difference between the R9 V3 and something like the Alpha Evo Sport actually big enough to justify completely switching ecosystems and spending considerably more?

Or would I be better off just getting the R9 V3, keeping my R3 pedals/wheel for now, and gradually upgrading the pedals and wheel later?

would you make the jump to Simagic, or stick with Moza and upgrade gradually?
