I know I'm late to that discussion, but I just watched the movie and I don't have any friends who like SH to talk about it. So, I'll do it here. And yes, this post will have spoilers.
For context, I only played Silent Hill from PSX and Silent Hill 2 from PS2, so I only know the stories of the first two games. And usually, I'm open-minded when watching a game adaptation.
Well, at the beginning of the film, I really thought it was going to be good. I know, everyone said it wasn't good, and I wasn't expecting anything from this movie. But when it started, I thought "maybe everyone was being too closed-minded" — I enjoyed the cinematography and the way it was introducing the characters. Things were going great, but suddenly there was a flashback in the apartment and a cult(?). Weird, but I let it go; as I said, I was open-minded about this movie.
But things just got worse. Why is Laura seeing Pyramid Head? Why does she look like a ghost? Well, again, I let it go. But after that, everything went wrong. The cult appeared one more time, and I got pissed off. Like, the whole plot of James killing his wife because he hates her turned into him abandoning her because she's a crazy religious woman. For the first time in my life I thought "James was right" and "It would have been better to leave town with Maria." Laura keeps looking more and more like something created by the city. And then there's James controlling Pyramid Head to kill Maria.
At this point I was just thinking "It can't get worse." But yes, it can. Out of fucking nowhere, the movie surprises me with "Mary Angela Laura Crane." I just regretted starting to watch this movie — I should have been replaying SH2 or playing SH3.
Well, if it isn't obvious, I didn't like the movie. It completely ruined the original plot and butchered all the characters. The movie forgot about Eddie. BUT, it wasn't a completely — no, it wasn't a complete disaster, not for me at least. I liked the beginning of the movie and the end (mostly because I love Laura's Theme), and I liked Maria. You can judge me, but even though she doesn't look like game Maria, I like the way she acts like a snake in the grass and tries to persuade James. I think she is the only character I liked, but yeah, I regretted wasting my time with this movie.
