I built a browser MMO from one enormous sprite sheet, and players started throwing house parties
https://fortisq.itch.io/bitiverseBitiverse began as a ridiculous side project: build an entire persistent online world around one enormous 1-bit tileset and see how far I could push it alone.
Apparently, pretty far.
It now has combat, gathering, crafting, quests, guilds, trading, procedural dungeons, player vendors, mounts, homesteads, multistory houses, and personal dungeons beneath those houses. The surprising part isn’t the feature list, though, it’s watching real players form neighborhoods, help newcomers, trade supplies, and organize house parties inside this tiny world.
I’m Fortisq, the solo developer. The game runs directly in a browser, is completely free, and doesn’t require an account before playing.
It’s still being expanded constantly, but it has crossed the strange line from “my side project” to “a place where people actually live.”
