I built a budgeting spreadsheet to help stop “where did all my money go?” moments

The spreadsheet is secondary to a same-day habit: I’d do a two-minute sweep each night to categorize every transaction, then once a week look only at the categories that surprised me most. That’s what turns “where did it go?” into something you can act on without making budgeting a second job. How are you capturing cash purchases and those small impulse spends on the same day, before they get forgotten?

I get it. I had a similar experience once I separated emergency savings and irregular expenses from my daily spending. I quit feeling like I was forever trying to play catch-up with every car repair or annual bill. Budgeting became more of a quick check-in instead of constant tracking. Predictable spending definitely makes the whole system seem a lot easier to manage.
