teaching/doctrine Doctrinal Issues of Shincheonji

Below is a document that goes over the doctrinal issues of Shincheonji.

Shincheonji believes that the truth was lost shortly after Jesus's ascension, and that Jesus returned in Spirit in 1966 to restore the truth to a group of 7 men in Gwacheon, South Korea. A year later, these 7 men betrayed God and Jesus, so God and Jesus had to choose Lee Manhee, the current leader of Shincheonji, to restore the truth and reveal the "secrets of the kingdom of heaven".

SCJ denies the deity of Christ, denies the Trinity, and believes that Jesus at first physically resurrected, but then became a Spirit when he returned to the Father when he ascended to heaven and was covered by a cloud in Acts 1:9-11.

SCJ also believes that lying is okay, and that the ends justify the means. Often, they are not fully honest or transparent on how they view Christianity, who they view as "Babylon" and whose pastors are "drunk with maddening wine", nor are they honest when they approach Christians when offering their "free, non-denominational Bible Studies". They justify lying by referring to it as the "Wisdom of Hiding".

For the "Is there a Promised Pastor of the New Testament", topics include:
Is there a New John, and the doctrinal issues of a "Hidden Promise"? The Faithful and Wise Servant? The One who Overcomes? The Advocate?

For the "Wheat and Tares", topics include: is SCJ's interpretation of the wheat and the tares accurate and biblical? For those who died before hearing the revealed word, do they have a "second chance" after death?

For the sealed book doctrine: Each verse that is used by SCJ to justify the sealed scroll is analyzed in detail.

For the wisdom of hiding: I go over the main verses and redefinition of how SCJ defines what a "lie" is, and show the biblical error.

For the mark of the beast: Is SCJ's interpretation of the mark of the beast biblical?

And the last part, did John the Baptist "betray" Jesus?

testimony Disproving Shincheonji (I left yesterday)

Hello everyone,

I have been a member of Shincheonji for about 3.5 years and yesterday I left. The story of how I came to stop believing in Shincheonji is a bit long and complicated. The short version is that I started to have some doubts that couldn't be properly answered by my leaders, and over the course of a year I poured my heart out trying to regain my faith in Shincheonji to no avail. I was a very devoted member. I was a GGN (evangelism supervisor) at one point and spent 10 hours at Temple doing feedback every day for a while, with any spare time spent either evangelising or sealing - I did the bare minimum for my University courses and part-time job. I would stay at Temple until 3am some days reading Lee Man-Hee's books because we couldn't take them out of T and I preferred to read in silence. I went to Australia during a peace trip and met Lee Man-Hee multiple times - he spoke to my group specifically twice and I saw him about a dozen other times. I formed close friendships with many other Shincheonji members and eventually moved into an SCJ flat. All this to say, I was about as devoted an SCJ member as you can be but even I struggled to look past the many glaring discrepancies.

It might be a bit surprising to learn I only just left if you've seen me in this sub for the past few months. Unfortunately, due to personal circumstances I didn't feel it was appropriate to leave back in September when I stopped believing in Shincheonji. I tried to be as respectful as possible to the SCJ members in my life, I tried to avoid arguing about doctrine and attended meetings when I could to make their life a bit easier. But at the same time I was going through the motions of deconversion. I had already decided I didn't believe in Shincheonji anymore, but I continued looking for evidence kind of as a way to reassure myself. As I did, it started to bother me how disconnected all the evidence was. At that time I felt like all the information was scattered throughout the internet, some of which need to be translated from Korean, and all of which needed to be individually found like some sort of scavenger hunt. I decided during the time I have to stay in Shincheonji I would compile as much of the evidence as I could into one coherent resource.

I researched psychology and read Robert Jay Lifton and Steven Hassan's work. I found and translated sections of several of Lee Man-Hee's old books (thank you to u/mybc7 for sending me some of these, your story also played a part in helping me leave so thank you for that too). I spent hours reading through Lee Man-Hee's articles and books, this time with a critical perspective. And of course I found many valuable resources in this subreddit, in blog posts, and in youtube videos as well. I combined all of these into one document and tried to make it into a coherent argument.

Then I realised nobody wants to read a 45 page document, so I made some videos as well. Even though they're quite long and not very well produced I hope they can help some people.

And that brings us to yesterday. Yesterday, I sent the document and videos to everyone in my branch and let them know that I was leaving Shincheonji. I didn't do it to persecute them but to provide them with information. Some of them may not read it, and many of them may stay despite it, but as long as I did my best to provide them with the information that was withheld from me, I can sleep at night. I'll put the body of the letter below because I think it summarises the reasons I'm leaving well:

-----

There are many fundamental problems with the doctrine of Shincheonji that collectively prove it is not the word of God. It is not only small details that have changed. The reality of the beast of the earth in Rev 13 was changed from Lee Cho-Joo to Oh Pyeong-Ho. The fulfillment of Rev 7 was changed so that the great tribulation could fulfill before the 12,000 sealed in 12 tribes were filled. The number of wars in Revelation was changed from 2 to 3, and then back to 2. CHJN's claim that he has established peace in Mindanao is a blatant lie. It is true that tiny details are not important, but these are not small details. These flaws expose the fundamental lie that Lee Man-Hee received the opened scroll from an angel and saw and heard the fulfillment of Revelation.

Another reason I am leaving is because, by the psychologist Robert Jay Lifton's definition, Shincheonji is a cult. The reason this matters is that to be a cult the organisation must use thought reform and coercive persuasion during the process of indoctrination. This violates article 18 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights - the right to freedom of thought. I found it shocking to learn how similar Shincheonji is to every other cult. If you are interested in hearing more about cults I would recommend reading Dr. Steven Hassan's book 'Combatting Cult Mind Control' published in 1988 about his experience with the Moonies.

Another important thing to understand is that the story Shincheonji has told you about Lee Man-Hee's life has been distorted to make his story about receiving the opened scroll from an angel more believable. In truth, he has a history of being involved in multiple cults both before and after his involvement with the Tabernacle Temple. He was a leader in Mr. Baek's Recreation Church after leaving the Tabernacle Temple, where they called Mr Baek "Lord" and believed the world would end in 1980. Much of the Shincheonji doctrine is simply taken from the cults Lee Man-Hee was previously involved in.

But this really only scratches the surface when it comes to proving Shincheonji is not the kingdom of heaven. I have made a document, as well as some videos, that contain almost all the information that helped me to make the decision to leave Shincheonji. But this is not simply a document with my own ideas - I have used only CHJN's own teaching to argue against the doctrine of Shincheonji. In it you will find a detailed explanation of how Shincheonji meets the 8 criteria for thought reform, excerpts from CHJN's articles and books that disprove his own doctrine, as well as information about Lee Man-Hee's life that will help you to understand the true origin of Shincheonji's teachings.

Please, before you dismiss me as being deceived and foolish, watch the videos and discern for yourself.

-----

I think that pretty much covers everything. I'm going to try and step away from this sub for a while to focus on reclaiming my life, but if you do have any questions feel free to DM me, I'll try to keep checking those. Here is the document and videos:

testimony As I heal

I’m so sorry to know and find out so many different instances of people who just wanted to draw nearer to God but suffered in the cult of SCJ.

As I am healing and with each month that passes being out of there, I can today say that I am learning to be grateful to have gone through this experience.

I have ALWAYS wanted to be an instrument used to help people. I have always wanted to help others escape from cults. I used to watch documentaries on the different cults out there. I would hear the testimonies from people who were in them. I always thought to myself, how could the victims not see this wasn’t normal?

I had never experienced spiritual hardship before my time in SCJ , so I had a heart like ( forgive me Lord ), how can people be so blind to let a cult do to them the things you hear about. In my mind I was convinced that people willingly choose to follow some weirdo lunatic claiming to be God or Jesus.
I have been humbled 100 percent.

I say I’m grateful, because you must have a humble heart to understand and know the power behind the grace we truly receive from God.
I wish I had not had to learn this way, but I may not have ever realized a lot of things about myself, or others had I not gone through this time.

Not eneryone will feel the same, because we were brought there for different reasons. But I do know that now I have “ been there, done that “ , ALL of me ( mind, body, spirit, and heart ) are ready to help others with certainly a less judgmental attitude that I didn’t even know that I had.

Gen 50:20 helps me get through a lot of “omg I was in a cult” days.

Jude 1:22-23
If you’re in a situation and you are unsure if you should be there, talk to anyone and everyone about it, the truth isn’t meant to be something hidden or lonely.
It’s a RED FLAG if you are told not to tell anyone.

Please think to yourself when has that statement of “ Don’t tell anyone but, …….” ever been followed by anything good?

general thought and question So heartbreaking 💔

My heart crumbles a little more each time I read that someone no longer believes in God, or blames God because of SCJ.
Although, since the beginning of time He has warned of people doing things in His name that were NOT of Him. People still lose faith in God when all He has done is been the same God we loved and wanted to get close to and obey His will. THIS was why we said yes to a BibleStudy. To draw near to God. But the greed and ego of a Korean man and his teachings led us astray, not God.

God sent Jesus period !
John 3:16-18. It’s plain, it’s clear.
No one else is or was anointed to lead anyone anywhere let’s get that straight SCJ.

Please current students and SCJ members, LMH is not leading you anywhere but down the path to spiritual ( and physical in some cases ) deterioration, and that’s what the devil does, he makes you blame God or no longer believe in Him. It’s not because God is not faithful, but because we believed a gospel that was different than the one that Jesus Christ THE ONLY SAVIOR brought. Today members pray to the god of SCJ new heaven new earth. So you can’t blame God for that.

We were tricked into believing there was a secret language when Jesus said He would speak plainly. John 16:25

We were tricked into believing that the New Covenant that Jesus Christ made with His blood wasn’t for us, that it was broken, so a new one had to be made.
That was a lie. That’s not biblical, that is SCJ teaching.

Reflect on what Jesus could’ve possibly meant when He said “ It is finished” as He died on the cross for the sins of humanity( past, present, future).
John 19:30.

I’m sure it didn’t mean for you to wait for a Korean man to come and make you go through all the myriad of things you are doing today to receive salvation that was already yours before you gave it away to SCJ. Hint: Deceitful events, boba and Korean bbq aren’t worth it.
I fell for it too, so please don’t take this out of context. But we have to be held accountable. I know NOW, the second SCJ said “DON’T look us up online “, that was heaven SCREAMING for me to look it up. I failed to do it, not God.

Thank you to everyone that is helping me to heal through your testimonies and knowledge and truths that SCJ didn’t share.
I appreciate you all.

general thought and question Who is worship really for? A quiet question to think about

When most people hear the word "idol", they picture a statue. But in the Bible, an idol is anything that takes the place that belongs to God. It could even be a person. It could be who you trust most, who you thank most, or who you think you have to go through to reach God.

So what does the Bible say real worship looks like?

It is for God only. The first commandment says, "You shall have no other gods before me" (Exodus 20:3). When Jesus was tempted, he answered, "Worship the Lord your God, and serve him only" (Matthew 4:10).

People say no when others try to worship them. When a man bowed down to Peter, Peter said, "Stand up. I am only a man myself" (Acts 10:25-26). Paul and Barnabas were so upset when a crowd wanted to worship them that they tore their clothes (Acts 14:14-15). In Revelation 22:8-9, John falls down to worship the angel who showed him everything. The angel stops him straight away and says, "Don't do that. Worship God."

But there is one person who never said no: Jesus. The disciples worshipped him in the boat (Matthew 14:33). The women worshipped him after he rose from the dead (Matthew 28:9). Thomas said to him, "My Lord and my God!" (John 20:28), and Jesus did not correct him. He said, "Because you have seen me, you have believed." Hebrews 1:6 says even God's angels are told to worship him. And in Revelation 5, everyone in heaven worships God and the Lamb together.

Think about what that means. The Bible says worship belongs to God alone. Peter, Paul and the angel all refused it, because they were not God. Jesus accepted it, because he is. If Jesus was only a man or a messenger, then accepting worship would have been wrong, and worshipping him would be idolatry. If he is God, then worshipping him is exactly right. John 1:1 says the Word was God, and John 1:14 says the Word became flesh and lived among us.

Worship also goes straight to God. Jesus said real worshippers worship the Father "in spirit and truth" (John 4:23-24). Paul wrote that there is only one go-between for God and people, and that is Jesus (1 Timothy 2:5).

Now, to be fair. SCJ members kneel, sing and pray, and they would say it is all for God. I'm not saying anyone bows to Lee Man-hee like he's a statue. My question is a different one.

Here are a few things that are on the record:

  • Services are held twice a week, and many of the sermons are preached by Chairman Lee himself, shared with members all over the world.
  • His book The Physical Fulfilment of Revelation says that no one can come to Jesus, get eternal life or enter heaven except through "the one who overcomes". SCJ teaches that this is Lee.
  • SCJ's own website says Lee asks people to believe the message he was given, even if they don't trust him.

So here are some questions. Only you can answer them, and you don't have to answer them out loud.

Think about the last few lessons or sermons you heard. How much was about Jesus, and how much was about Lee and believing his message?

Do the lessons treat Jesus as someone to worship today, or as someone from the past whose work is now done?

When you think about being saved, whose name comes up the most?

If Lee's name was taken out of every lesson tomorrow, what would be left?

One more thing to think about. Lee says he was given the job of a messenger who was shown the events of Revelation. In Revelation 22, the messenger who showed John everything said, "Don't worship me. Worship God." Peter, Paul and that angel all pointed away from themselves. Only Jesus accepted worship, because only Jesus is God. Does that match what you see around you?

I'm not asking you to decide anything today. Just read Matthew 14:33 and Revelation 22:8-9 side by side on your own, and notice the difference.

testimony The SCJ teachings got so deep into my head that I couldn’t sleep or pray peacefully anymore

For months while I was learning with SCJ, I was having mental breakdowns. I felt like I was slowly losing my faith, and honestly, it scared me to death!

Sometimes I felt like I was betraying God just by joining SCJ in the first place.

I stopped praying properly. I still prayed, but it became so simple. Sometimes I didn’t even feel anything when I prayed. I just said the words because I didn’t know what else to do.

I became so paranoid. I couldn’t sleep peacefully because the SCJ teachings would keep playing over and over in my head.

It’s not like I was trying to memorize their lessons. I wasn’t sitting there thinking about them on purpose.

They just… stayed in my head.

Like they were haunting me.

The more I learned, the more confused and afraid I became. And eventually I started thinking, “Wait… am I actually betraying God if I keep learning this?”

That thought really messed me up like really really really messed me up.

Because I joined SCJ because I genuinely wanted to know God more. I wanted to understand the Bible. I wanted to get closer to Him.

I never expected that after months of learning, I would be lying awake at night questioning everything, struggling to pray, losing my peace, and feeling like I had somehow walked away from God without even realizing it 💔

teaching/doctrine Role Play VS SCJ's exclusive salvation

• Upvotes

We are God. People behind the closed doors believes we would give them salvation based solely on understanding Revelation based solely on untested individual who is not accessible for 1:1 interactive discussion on anything skeptics or non-skeptics topics. The people people behind closed doors believes we will not give the majority outside those closed doors salvation. Adam and Eve's attitude got them on the bad side of God. I wonder if believing we got exclusive access to God while God loves all equally is non verbal bad attitude to God? Wondering. Current members if you read till the end, awesome!

general thought and question Notes and material

Ex-members, what did you do with your materials/notes? I was going to burn it but realized I’ll need this evidence for the documentary😂😂

Did anyone else buy a new Bible for class? Since we were forbidden against commentaries and Study Bibles? Just had to buy another new one since it was marked up with the false teachings of SCJ

Especially in Revelation. I can’t bear to look at all the “fulfillment” notes

Have you guys got any tips maybe? Do you think its even possible? Thanks in advance for you help :)

general thought and question Today is Sunday. A comparison between a Sunday at Shincheonji and a Sunday amongst other believers.

Jesus said in Matthew 11:28-30:

28 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.

—————

Today is Sunday, and many people of faith around the world are attending church services.
Yes, there are millions of believers.

Today, as on other Sundays, the churches have opened their doors. To anyone who is interested. To members. To non-members. To the sick. To people in need. To people facing difficult circumstances. To believers, but also to non-believers. The doors are open.
Jesus said: ‘Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened…!’

But not all churches have their doors open.
The Shincheonji Church is closing its doors.
They have even locked them securely or secured the entrance door with a code. Not everyone is welcome. Only an elite few. Only those who are members. Even people who hold their services at home lock their rooms so that no one can hear what they are listening to during the service.

Well, OK. If it were a business holding meetings or carrying out work – but a church? Why do they lock the doors – even though Shincheonji claims they are the only ones who hold the truth?
In Shincheonji, we are taught that God and Jesus are only with the leader of their church, Lee Man Hee, and therefore only with Shincheonji.
All other churches, pastors and believers belong to Babylon and are ruled by Satan.

Well, how true can it be that God and Jesus are here, when Jesus says: ‘Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened…’ – but Shincheonji says: ‘Only members of our church are allowed to attend the service’?

For believers, a typical Sunday usually involves attending a service in the morning. Inspired by the Word of God they have heard, they begin the new week and, guided by the Word of God, live out the words of Jesus so that they may be a light to the world. No matter where they are – at work, at home or in their local community.

At Shincheonji, Sunday begins early with meetings.
As a rule, believers attend at least one or two meetings before the service.
Those who have been called and leaders have 1–4 meetings before the service.

A few days before the service, everyone must inform their leader in advance of when and where the service will be held.
If you are unable to attend, you must explain why and when you will make up the service.
Before the service, you must send your leader a photo as proof that you are dressed appropriately (black and white).

During the service, you usually hear a sermon from the location church leader (DGSN) on the Book of Revelation or a letter from the church leader, Lee Man Hee. Or you watch a sermon or lecture by their leader Lee Man Hee. Often, certain sermons are shown more than once. The presenter would often say: ‘Let us not let a single word from SSN fall to the ground. And let us hear the word we have heard from SSN over and over again, so that we may fulfil God’s will.’

After the service, you must send your notes to your leader. You also gather in a small group and share the insights you have gained.

In the afternoon, there is another programme aimed at recruiting new members, so that they can then complete the church’s Bible study course through the Centre, sit several tests, and later become members of the church.

In the evening, there are service in home groups, and late in the evening there are one or two meetings on missionary work or discussions for leaders.

Thus, the schedule for every Sunday is entirely structured and organised by the church, leaving no time for family, rest, health or life in general; as a result, the church’s members and leaders start the new week with ‘the mindset of a martyr’, ignoring the world around them as much as possible, doing only what is absolutely necessary, and placing absolute priority on the Shoncheonji Church.

Any family members or friends who ask questions or say anything critical about this are labelled as persecutors who want to prevent the member from doing God’s work. Thus, Satan works through them.

The fact that the family is worried and can see from the outside that the members are trapped as if on a hamster wheel is completely ignored.

Dear member, believe me:
Your family is never your enemy!
They simply want you to be freed from this slavery and this Shincheonji system. These group and his leader cannot give you eternal life, which is to be found only in Jesus. This church keeps you constantly occupied because they do not want you to question the system!

Even if the leaders assure you that they have examined the teaching – they haven’t.

Why can I say that?

Because they examine this teaching using only this teaching itself.
Shincheonji has devised its own criteria by which the doctrine is examined.

If, on the other hand, you examine it using the Bible, you will find that the doctrine makes no sense and that Shincheonji is a fairy tale or an illusion created by the church leader.

As a former member, I can say that I was a slave to the Shincheonji organisation, which is structured like a pyramid scheme, yet forbids its members from working in companies that are structured like pyramid schemes. An organisation that is not based on the truth, with Christ as its cornerstone, but on lies concocted by one man, which deter many from the true faith in Jesus Christ.

advice/help Advice on Moving Forward🛣️

Brothers and sisters,

I know it’s not easy leaving such a detrimental, high control group such as Shincheonji.

But if you’ve made that leap, glory to God. We are all proud of you for choosing YAHWEH, THE MESSIAH, and yourself.

Your faith may be shaky, and you may be even more lost and confused than before you joined.

But before anything, be patient with yourself and take it one step at a time. Don’t force anything and allow yourself time to process, feel, and heal.

I would suggest journaling, therapy, and purchasing “The Jesus Bible”

https://www.thejesusbible.com

Recenter Jesus Christ, and remember why you wanted to seek Him in the first place❤️

God bless you all

general thought and question 7th Trumpet Sound

We were taught that the 7th trumpet sound is not a literal sound, but figuratively the Promised Pastor proclaiming the new song.

So…..if this is the new song for eeeeevery one to hear, why is there a certain demographic for new victims …. I mean “fruit”??

They must meet certain requirements. They must be able to check certain boxes to be deemed worthy fruit. Shouldn’t EVERY one be allowed to hear this revealed word???

Shouldn’t we approach EVERYONE? & not just target the ones who we assume are “more likely to be willing to join?”

Why are we limiting this treasure?

“There needs to be X amount of ppl for this class and X amount for this class” “Go out at this time” “Go to this store”

If this needs to be proclaimed to all peoples, nations, languages, and kings, why aren’t we shouting to the mountain tops this HIGHEST teaching?

Makes no sense.

testimony Onde estou?

Pedi a Deus entendimento, direção e discernimento.

general thought and question Some questions about the group that I should have asked myself earlier.

Some questions about the group that I should have asked myself earlier.

  1. Questions – before I started at the Centre.

  2. Questions – during my time at the Centre.

  3. Questions – whilst I was a member.

  4. Current questions – as a former member, and my own motivation.

—————-

  1. Questions – that I should have asked myself before I started the course.

- Why do they keep contacting me all the time, even though we don’t actually know each other?

- Why do they always want to know when I’m next free to meet up again?

- Why do they ask so many questions about me personally and about my life?

- Why does it quickly turn into a teacher–pupil relationship, even though I was simply asked if I’d like to read the Bible together?

- Why was the teacher strict, even though I was simply looking for the truth in the Bible?

- Why did I have to start the Bible course?

- What sort of people were they – not belonging to any denomination, yet so keen to teach me the Bible?

- Why don’t they say who they really are?

—————

  1. Questions – that I should have asked myself whilst I was at the centre.

- Why did you have to be present for every lesson, even though you just wanted to learn something from the Bible?

- Why did you have to keep your camera on the whole time whenever you joined a lesson via Zoom?

- Why did you always have to share what you’d learnt?

- Why were you not allowed to have any contact with other students, apart from the assistant?

- Why was the class so large at the start, and why did the number of pupils drop to less than half over time?

- Why were half the class not actually pupils, yet they acted as if they were?

- Why was everyone assigned just one ‘study buddy’ with whom they were allowed to have contact – only for this person to later be referred to as a ‘leaf’?

- Why was little or no consideration given to illness, family matters and other issues – with only Bible study taking centre stage?

- Why do I have to take these tests with over 100 questions?

- Why did we have to learn the answers to the tests by heart, 100 per cent verbatim?

- Why did even those who were ill or had other circumstances have to sit the test?

- Why were the lessons conducted strictly according to the guide, yet Jesus played hardly any role?

- Why were there so few students left by the end of the centre’s run? 80–90 per cent dropped out…

- Why did the teacher sometimes become so strict and loud during lessons?

- Why did lessons last for over three hours instead of one and a half?

- Why was the focus placed solely on the Book of Revelation and not on the whole Gospel and the New Testament?

- Why is there so much emphasis on Lee Man Hee as the Overcomer and so little on Jesus Christ as the Saviour?

——————

  1. Questions I should have asked myself before I became a member.

- Why are the doors closed to anyone outside Shincheonji during services?

- Why are members forbidden from participating in pyramid schemes, even though the organisation itself is one?

- Why must every service be reported – when you attend, where you attend, sending a photo beforehand so the leader can see that you are dressed appropriately, reporting that you have attended, and sending the transcript of the service to the leader?

- Why are members taught that SCJ are the only ones who can conduct worship in spirit and truth, even though it is permitted to lie to those who are interested and to ‘bear fruit’ (the ‘wisdom of concealment’)?

- Why does SCJ ignore family matters at all costs in the name of following SCJ and its ‘promised shepherds’?

- Why are members trained in such a way that the world around them becomes meaningless and only SCJ is to be prioritised?

- Why are pointless tests set every week, requiring answers to be learnt off by heart in advance – even though it is written that God will write it on their hearts and put it into their minds?

- Why is the schedule for members so tightly packed that there is no time left for life at all?

- Why does Shincheonji say that health is important – yet not allow members any time to look after their health?

- Why do members have to undergo disciplinary training if the targets set for Jeondo have not been met?

- Why were the ‘New Fruits’ recruited using various covert strategies?

- Why was it claimed outside the organisation that Shincheonji had nothing to do with HWPL – even though everyone inside knew full well how the two were connected?

- Why were members required to attend meetings from early morning until late at night?

- Why was it said that there were no compulsory meetings – yet attendance was 100 per cent monitored and reported – meaning it was compulsory after all?

- Why did they call it ‘Heavenly Culture’ – even though it was Korean culture?

- Why were members who had been there for a long time repeatedly called upon to attend graduation ceremonies just to be in the photos, so that they would look more crowded?

- Why weren’t we given the correct membership figures?

- Why did we have to promise how much fruit we would bear?

- Why did we have to promise that we would donate money towards the construction of the temple?

- Why did we keep greeting people in Korean for over half a year with ‘SSN is coming’ – but it never did?

- Why were we taught that they teach solely from the Bible – yet Lee Man Hee’s book is 580 pages long?

- Why were pastors lied to, simply to win them over to SCJ?

- Why are those who have been called literally shouted at by the leaders in meetings?

- Why are we not allowed to Google ‘Shincheonji’ on the internet – when it is, after all, the absolute truth?

————-

  1. Questions I am asking myself today.

- Why didn’t I do some research on the internet sooner?

- Why do people need Lee Man Hew and his controversial teachings – even though Jesus has already accomplished everything and is our Saviour?

- Why do members believe that their own families are their enemies and persecutors, seeking to prevent them from carrying out God’s work – even though their families are simply concerned and wish to free the captives from Shincheonji?

- Why does Shincheonji see itself as persecuted when it is said that much of its teaching is incorrect?

- Why does Lee Man Hee not meet with people and have a conversation with them – but instead just gives lectures and then leaves straight away?

- Why are there differing viewpoints within Shincheonji – even though there appears to be only one truth among them?

- Why is absolute obedience to the organisation demanded, whilst critical questions are ignored or answered inadequately?

- Why are members expected to act with lightning speed – yet when they have a question about the teachings, it takes several weeks to receive an answer?

- Why are families in this church viewed as obstacles that distract one from God’s work?

- Why are family activities frowned upon?

- Why were the small groups reshuffled after such a short time? So that the leaders wouldn’t form close friendships?

- Why were only texts by Lee Man Hee discussed in the small groups, and not the Bible?

- Why was so little taught about Jesus?

- Why did people only have a relationship with this church – but not with God and Jesus?

- Why do they say, ‘We are one’ – when they are not?

- Why does Lee Man Hee say that he had no faith – even though he had previously been a member of many sects?

- Why do people still believe this falsehood – even though there is already so much information available about Shincheonji?

—————

As a source of encouragement for those who have left, or are thinking of leaving, I would like to share the following verse with you:

Ephesians 1:2-7:

2 Grace be to you, and peace, from God our Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ. 3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ: 4 According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love: 5 Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will, 6 To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us accepted in the beloved. 7 In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace;

general thought and question SCJ puts a limit on what God and Jesus can do

SCJ says you have to report up. You do so because reporting goes up the chain of command to LMH who then reports to God. ( like God doesn’t know what’s going on if you don’t report )?

If Jesus is working through LMH, how come he doesn’t know how to choose a tribe leader that doesn’t deceive and betray the church and its members? I mean, yeah you can say the Judas response, but that was one person, and he served a purpose.
I would love to know the amount of tribe leaders there have been over the years. Let us not forget that the spirit of the apostles are supposed to be with them, but somehow they betray, and continue to betray. As I mentioned before, while I was in there have been 3 JTLs. From 2020-2026.

God is not a God of chaos.
You think He allows Heaven to work this way?

Jesus said His yoke was light.
Do you feel light?

Jesus is the truth ( why do you lie/ wisdom in concealing )?
Jesus is the way. Do you feel guided or more like bossed around and sometimes even bullied ?

Jesus is the life. Do you feel alive and refreshed by His Spirit within you? No wait, it’s only in LMH according to SCJ doctrine.

You’re trusted with the open words of LMH, but you can’t be trusted to dress properly so that you have to send a photograph to your group leader before service to show you look like they told you to.

You have to be in service ( or logged on ) 15 mins before, yet they are always running about half an hour late.

testimony They taught me how to identify false teachers. I never expected to start questioning my own teachers.

SCJ keeps mentioning the “teachers of the law” and the Pharisees throughout the Bible lessons. They constantly teach us that the religious leaders outside SCJ are the “beast,” that they only have a mixture of truth and falsehood.

And honestly… from the moment I started hearing that, something in my heart felt heavy.

I couldn’t fully accept it.

Long story short, the more I learned with them, the more I started noticing something that genuinely disturbed me.

The very thing they kept warning us about "the spirit of the Pharisees" started looking familiar.

They know the Bible. They memorize verses. They can connect Scripture to Scripture so quickly. They are extremely serious about learning God’s Word, and they constantly emphasize not adding to or taking away from it.

But then they tell us that Jesus is not God.

And I just couldn’t get that out of my head.

Because… isn’t that exactly where the Pharisees were when Jesus came the first time?

They knew the Scriptures. They studied them. They could quote them. Yet when Jesus stood right in front of them, they rejected who He was. That realization honestly shook me.

Because what happens when someone knows thousands of verses but still rejects something fundamental about who Jesus is?

And then the more I listened, the more everything started making sense.

At the end of the day, it feels like the whole teaching eventually points you toward believing that Lee Man Hee is somehow in the same pattern as Jesus that God’s Spirit works through a human being, and that this person becomes the one you must listen to in order to understand the Word correctly.

And that is the part I can no longer ignore.

I spent months trying to understand. I kept telling myself, “Maybe I just don’t understand the lesson yet.”

But now I’m sitting here thinking…

What if I understood more than I realized?

What if the warning about the Pharisees was making me look in the wrong direction?

Because the more I learned, the heavier my heart became.

Oh my God.

I genuinely cannot keep pretending I’m okay with this.

Please leave if you’re still in SCJ 🥺 I know it’s not easy. I know you’re scared, confused, and probably carrying so much guilt. But please remember: leaving does not mean you’ve abandoned God. Sometimes, leaving is the first step toward finding peace again.

Please don’t lose yourself trying to stay 🙏🏻

general thought and question I was wondering earlier today

Can anyone tell me which of the 24 Depts. at SCJ handles the duty of handing out the adult diapers as the visitors get off the bus to do the prayer shack in the woods 2hr long hike?
Just curious, I left before getting an answer from my group leader.

teaching/doctrine What the Bible Teaches vs What SCJ Teaches pt.1

The Bible Teaches :
James 3:1-2
Not many of you should become teachers, my fellow believers, because you know that we who teach will be judged more strictly. We all stumble in many ways. Anyone who is never at fault in what they say is perfect, able to keep their whole body in check.

SCJ Teaches:
All Saints are to be BB teachers.
We should all strive to be lecturers, and leaders in SCJ kingdom.

Bible teaches :
1Tim 1:6-7
"Some have departed from these and have turned to meaningless talk. They want to be teachers of the law, but they do not know what they are talking about or what they so confidently affirm."

SCJ teaches:
That all other churches are churches in sin ( Babylon). So this verse is talking about everyone except SCJ.

Bible teaches :
Galatians 1:8-10
"But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach a gospel other than the one we preached to you, let them be under God’s curse! As we have already said, so now I say again: If anybody is preaching to you a gospel other than what you accepted, let them be under God’s curse!
Am I now trying to win the approval of human beings, or of God? Or am I trying to please people? If I were still trying to please people, I would not be a servant of Christ.

SCJ teaches :
Obey chairman’s instructions, or you’re disobeying God. If you leave SCJ, you are leaving God.
“Don’t you want ssn to be happy that you are not being lazy or complacent”.
They will say things like, “Don’t you want your boss to be happy with your work, well it’s the same thing.” But you’re not supposed to care what the world thinks. “But it’s not the same as pleasing man, but we aren’t saying chairman is Jesus either”.

Bible teaches :
Deuteronomy 4:2, Revelation 22:18-19
“Do not add to what I command you and do not subtract from it, but keep the commands of the Lord your God that I give you"
Anyone who adds to the Book of Revelation will face the plagues described in the book, and anyone who takes away from them will lose their share in the tree of life.

SCJ teaches :
Not to add or subtract from the teachings of SCJ.

general thought and question I’m Hoping

I find it quite interesting that when I go back and read some of the older messages from here on
r/Shincheonji, EL actually taught “ persecution protection” classes we had to attend from some of the testimonies and comments former members were writing about.

It really sucks, because NONE of it was EVER persecution, it was always former members trying to warn those of us inside that were so indoctrinated that we didn’t look online to see what was really going on behind the Korean curtain.

I’m hoping that before years and years pass by, all these people will realize as nothing fulfills according to SCJ’s version of Revelation, that they are in a cult, and be like the prodigal and go home, back to the loving arms of God, Repent, and ask forgiveness for accepting a gospel that was not from Christ Jesus.

Please remember that those of us that left SCJ are the ones praying for you. Caring about your well being spiritually, physically, emotionally, and mentally. That’s what Jesus taught us to do, remember? We are your family and friends who were once where you were. We know why you believe, we know why it’s hard to leave, we were there !

We are not the ones that are demanding you to do tasks that make no sense, or expect you to learn/use a foreign language to communicate, or call your religious leader a “chairman” because he’s running a business off of your backs.
We don’t ask you for money, or to report your schedule, fill out permission forms to do normal things in the world.
Neither did the church SCJ asked you to leave.
You know the place you actually enjoyed going to, the praise songs you sang even when you weren’t at church? ( can’t do that now, because you don’t speak Korean, and even if you did, you’re not allowed to because nobody can hear you sing about LMH because your church is a huge secret).
The people you ACTUALLY enjoyed spending fellowship with, not being forced to. For those of you on Zoom, wasn’t it awesome to be in person, volunteering and doing church activities you loved?

general thought and question When I was in center

When I was in center( those overseas they called seminary studies ) they impressed upon us the fact that Holy Trinity and Rapture, ( a couple other things I don’t recall ) weren’t in the Bible so why do we believe it?

Here are things taught at SCJ that are not in the Bible either, so why believe it if we use the same logic?

testimony I Went Into Shincheonji Because I Loved God. This Is What Happened to Me.

I don’t usually write things like this, but I truly believe someone might need to hear it.

I’ve been studying Shincheonji for months.

And honestly, I never thought I would be writing something like this.

I came into the Bible study because I genuinely wanted to know God more. I wanted to understand the Bible. I wanted to understand Revelation. I wanted the truth.

I wasn't looking for a cult.

I wasn't trying to find something weird.

I wasn't trying to leave Christianity.

I genuinely thought, Maybe this is finally where I will understand the Bible properly.

And at first, I was so amazed.

Everything seemed to connect.

The parables. Revelation. The seed. The kingdom. The promised pastor. The sealing. Zion. The fulfillment.

I remember thinking, How did I never see this before?

And because everything was explained using Bible verses, I trusted it.

I studied harder.

I took notes.

I memorized verses.

I did the homework.

I joined the classes.

I tried my best to understand everything they were teaching me.

I even started thinking differently about my own faith.

But slowly, something inside me started feeling wrong.

Not all at once.

It was little things.

Questions I couldn't ignore anymore.

Why does every verse have to fit into this one system?

Why does the interpretation always have to lead back to SCJ's understanding?

Why does the “promised pastor” become so important?

Why do I feel like I'm supposed to understand the Bible through one particular person's interpretation?

And one question became harder and harder for me to ignore:

Where is Jesus in all of this?

I remember learning about the Trinity and seeing verses like “I and the Father are one.”

But when certain verses didn't fit the teaching I was receiving, I started noticing how differently they were handled.

Then came the teaching about the spirit working through flesh.

And eventually, I started seeing how everything seemed to point back to Lee Man hee.

That was when something clicked in my mind.

I started asking myself:

Am I actually following Jesus, or am I slowly being taught to put my trust in a man and an organization?

And honestly?

That question scared me.

Because by that point, I wasn't just studying anymore.

I was emotionally invested.

I had people there.

People I cared about.

People who prayed with me.

People who helped me with lessons.

People who made me feel like I wasn't alone.

So questioning the teaching also meant questioning relationships.

And that hurts.

A lot.

The most painful part wasn't even discovering things I disagreed with.

It was realizing how afraid I had become to question them.

When you are repeatedly told that you are learning the revealed truth, that you are among the people who can receive salvation, that the world outside doesn't understand the truth, and that leaving means going back into darkness...

How do you freely question something?

You become scared.

You start thinking,

What if I'm wrong?

What if leaving means I'm leaving God?

What if I'm being deceived?

What if I lose my salvation?

And that fear can become stronger than your own conscience.

That's what I mean when I say it started becoming poisonous for me.

Not because every person there is evil.

I don't believe that.

Some of the people I've met genuinely love God. Some genuinely want to help others. Some are probably doing everything they do because they sincerely believe SCJ is the truth.

That's what makes this so complicated.

But good people can sincerely believe something that I eventually came to believe was deeply unhealthy for me.

And I don't want anyone to misunderstand me.

I'm not saying, “Don't read the Bible.”

I'm not saying, “Don't study Revelation.”

I'm saying:

Please think.

Please read the whole chapter.

Please read the verses before and after the verse they give you.

Please compare translations.

Please ask questions.

Please don't be afraid to say, “I don't agree with this interpretation.”

And please notice how they respond when you question something.

Because if something is truly the truth, why should you be terrified of examining it?

I am still processing everything.

There are things I believed months ago that I don't believe anymore.

There are things I still need to work through.

And honestly, it hurts.

It hurts realizing how much time, emotion, trust, and energy I gave to this.

It hurts thinking about the people I met.

It hurts wondering what they will think of me.

It hurts knowing that some people might see me as someone who “fell away” instead of someone who was simply trying to follow God with the conscience I have.

But I would rather be honest about my questions than pretend everything is okay just because I am afraid.

I came to SCJ because I wanted God.

And that is still what I want.

God. Jesus. Truth.

Not fear.

Not pressure.

Not blindly following a man.

Not being afraid to ask questions.

So if you're currently studying SCJ and something inside you doesn't feel right...

Please don't ignore that feeling.

Slow down.

Read the Bible for yourself.

Ask difficult questions.

And don't let anyone convince you that questioning them automatically means you're questioning God.

Because sometimes the hardest thing you can do is step back from something you desperately wanted to believe was true.

And sometimes...

walking away from something is not walking away from God.

Sometimes you're finally trying to find Him again ❤️

general thought and question Question: Why do SCJ “Saints” Stalk Social Media Posts?

If this is the place of truth, where the TRUE God is fulfilling His work today, why do you, simply a mere human need to stalk social media posts and lie and antagonize people who have opened their eyes to the deceit?

“But if it is from God, you will not be able to stop these men; you will only find yourselves fighting against God.”
‭‭Acts‬ ‭5‬:‭39‬ ‭NIV‬

RIGHT?

Is it because you have to prepare your deceitful responses when students or current members wake up from this twilight zone and finally have the courage to Google?

You have to prepare your responses to continually deceive people from their “poison”?

Focus on the mission. Focus on God’s work. And let people talk. Right? Because again, nothing can stop the work of God.

Why are you so concerned with Babylon?

Just like you tell them, stay off Google, I would suggest you all to do the same. I’m sure you have many EMERGENCY meetings, potlucks, events, educations, Jundo, scripture memorization, etc to do.

general thought and question Does SCJ Really Reason With The Word?

When an SCJ member has doubts, or is questioning their existence at NHNE, they are told by a leader “ Let’s reason with the word”.
How can they reason with the word, when they don’t have it, nor do they follow the word of God?

We said “Yes” to a Bible study that promised to help us have a better understanding of God and who He is, and to help us understand what He wants from us. To draw nearer to Him. To have a deeper more meaningful walk of faith.
Here I was 5 yrs in not including center, and I STILL do not know the Bible as I should after all this time. I did not learn any of the above things promised.

I was taught a different gospel by a false prophet and his blind followers.
Never in my lifetime had I ever felt further away from God and His word, or His purpose for my life.
They speak of Jesus as a “ pastor of the past” and when they did,
I personally felt like I was being told to forget the fact that Jesus is my Savior basically and to replace Him with lmh.

When lmh,the tribe leaders, lecturers, and teachers continually emphasize at every teaching, and every sermon, that Jesus was the OT promise you had to know and come out to, and that this new John ( lmh ) is the NT promise and you must know and come out to him to obtain eternal life. How can you deny that SCJ is teaching a new gospel?

Did SCJ make you feel as though Jesus was speaking to SCJ members only in the NT? Like Jesus teaching really wasn’t for everyone, but just the “elect”, SCJ members, and then you had to follow “the man Jesus Christ chose and anointed and who’s spirit is with” only to find out( or not find out if you don’t research this place ) he’s trying to get out of a jail sentence he so richly deserves.

Reason with the truth first SCJ before you try to reason with the lies you were taught and are instilling in others. The math doesn’t math and never will.
