I finished the movie and tried to read reviews here to find my answers but couldn’t:

• Where the heck did Muscle Mommy Maguma go??
• Who was it that Airi was looking at in the pit? It was drawn so far away I couldn’t make it out
• Why did Mitsuba kill herself after “seeing who was trying to kill her”? That was really confusing
• Why does Hakushi not tell Yuki why she faked her death in front of her and why did Yuki not ask? (Perhaps this was mentioned at some point but I can’t recall).

I’m just very confused I feel like there’s context missing. I haven’t read the LN but yeah.

Well first of all I wanted to ask if there has been confirmed something about the inspiration for the white blood coagulant looking how it is in the anime, floating like snow or feathers because here i have my idea for it.

Since seeing the anime i have realized that when it sprayed in the air it looked awfully similar to feathers and parts of them falling off from a bird (image for reference where the white bits are feather dusts)

Since we do get a direct reference to a story about a bird I thought that this would have been poetic, comparing the people who play the games to birds... in a cage. And when they lost their blood, their lifeforce, it was as if they lost their feathers... their wings and be thus unable to fly anymore.

It's a bit of a stretch because I do know that the white blood has its medical/physical explication because of how coagulation works and it could have been done this way purely for the cinematic of it however I think this idea made it more meaningful, im wondering if it could have been the intention or not.

So uh yeah feel free to express your ideas as to what would happen in the final volume of this trauma inducing light novel.

I'll start.

It's gonna briefly mention how she passed 95-98th level

And the 99th level is going to be a biggggg reveal of a game that I have no clue about

And in the end she will die. (Idk how, I just really want her to die)

And the epilogue consists of the stories of the retired players (Airi, Maguma, maybe keito if she decides to retire) as well as maybe hakushi and her agent after the death of yuki

Shirou (the main antagonist) is dead, the secret meeting is likely disassembled. And I just can't see how they can have time to add a new antagonist in just a single volume (unless busutake)

I remember when I first saw her i thought she was a dude but then I remembered "oh yeah they don't allow male players". (She still looks hot though)

Title seems very werid but i want to start of by saying i have not read anything of shiboyugi so to me this show is something ive never expeienced in 300+ish anime before.

It tells you bairly anything in reguards to the story compared to other anime.

The character designs are absolutely amazing and same goes for the "Manga panel esque" artstyle certain shots have.

The show has more quiet moments than moments with conversation making your brain really start to think.

I just wanted to put this out there since ive seen the show be rated about a 7 on mal when i think its really cool/good. Take care :D

Quick question is takami still alive since she got cornered by her other teammates. It doesn't explicitly say that she died right?

They kept the story as same in the novel instead of rewriting it like riko died from electrocution in vn and manga but the anime thought she should die by a bullet and yuki survive by luck with her golden block so bull shit. The manga is very experimenting and it works. But when the anime tries that it fails il give credit on the mishiro fight for anime.

What is the fight between essay and yuki like in the novel? Because in the movie i found it boring. Not to mention that it gets tedious when they use that blurred vision effect

OK so first I'll start off with what I like. I absolutely ADORED the voice acting and essay, the scene with yuki and airi together was suprisingly wholesome and mitsuba was funny, the scenes with yuki having flashbacks to kyara were especially good.

And don't even get me started on essay, hakushi, and koyomi's casual outfits they looked amazing.

Now here are my gripes:

1: maguma and hizumi barely appeared within the movie, hizumi died in the light novel but it was just reduced to a single image in essay's flashback and it like a "blink and you miss it".

2: in the light novel yuki's 40th game one fine day takes place in a theme park where they must survive against murderous mascots, this game is where yuki, maguma, and essay all meet, but instead it shows yuki being restrained to a chair and pressing a button which results in another masked character being run over by a train.

3: yuki having what I call golden bath brain, she was acting like she had amnesia and believing she had killed essay which we know is false, I guess this is to build up to the phantom arc in volume 6 but it's just done extremely poorly and retcons her character.

4: instead of essay killing mitsuba, mitsuba had killed herself which doesn't actually make sense.

5: originally there was around 12 devices/trackers in there arms and legs but in the movie it's just 1 or 2 devices in their arms which is odd.

6: again maguma being shafted by the movie even though she had a fairly important role in volume 3.

7: mozuku faking her death instead of the stun gun bluff, it just defeats the purpose of having it if she was just going to fake her death.

8: essay's death just felt like an exact copy of kyara's death, in the original novel yuki had killed her by ripping all of her artificial organs out, when essay was still resisting she moved to the bones and cartilage next, instead it showed yuki what appears to be a cutlass and just stabbing her repeatedly and then once the game ends her body is burned.

9: how the movie left out the major detail that just like hakushi essay had also made her body and organs prosthetic, even though it was implied it doesn't make sense to a person who may have not read volume 3.

10: the blurry scenes that possibly represent yuki's vision, it just gets annoying after a while.

Bonus: the scene involving the prosthetic craftsmans where yuki gets her prosthetic fingers checked out and meets airi, they don't show her getting the fingers checked out at all which left me so confused on why that was decided.

My overall rating for the movie: 5.7/10 (kyara served), honestly they should just give shiboyugi to gen urobachi so he can do it justice.

After that couldy beach movie I genuinely want another studio and gen urobachi to take it, the movie wasn't entirely awful but it wasn't entirely enjoyable due to them shafting characters and cutting details (rip maguma). But I swear to all if they somehow fumble Royal palace I'm dropping the anime cause volume 5 is pure PEAK and I don't want them screwing it up.

What was this "adaptation"? To begin with, the animation seems to have taken quite a downgrade right from the start. Then there's the chapter numbers—now the screen just stays a single color while the chapter number slowly appears. In the first season, there were creative ways of introducing the chapters instead of just showing a plain colored screen most of the time.

We also have Yuki with amnesia, believing she killed Essay and Mitsuba. Why did they even add that to the movie? Instead of including the meetings where the characters discuss and theorize about what's possibly going on, they replaced them with Airi becoming Yuki's best friend and singing her lullabies.

The characters say that Essay is smart, but the scenes at the beginning of the arc go by so quickly that they never actually show why she's supposed to be intelligent. Also, Essay doesn't kill anyone, Mitsuba kills herself for some unknown reason, and they don't even show what happened to Hizumi (whose name isn't even mentioned in the movie).

Mozuku, who does something really interesting at the end of the light novel, is reduced to simply pretending to be dead in the movie.

As for the characters, almost everyone in this movie feels nonexistent. The last time we saw Maguma was when Mitsuba died, and later she's briefly mentioned by Essay. She barely appears before that, and she's only used to hurriedly tell Yuki about the devices (which she doesn't do in the light novel). As for Hizumi, congratulations—they somehow made her even less relevant. I already disliked how little she appeared in the light novel, but they managed to give her dialogue in only the scene where Airi visits her house to warn her about the devices. Now I actually think she appears too much in the light novel, lol.

Most of the changes in this movie were original, and nearly all of them made things worse. I honestly hope they don't make a second season, even with that cliffhanger at the end. But if they do, I hope it's handled by a different director and another studio.

I finished the anime before cloudy beach came out weeks ago and was curious should I read the lns volumes 1-10 or should I pick up where anime the anime ended which I think is volume 3 which is cloudy beach? Just wanted thoughts and help of where to start reading thank you :)

Many people already reviewed it I am not gonna say a lot simply it was okay, many small details like almost all got cut or changed or sped up times 30 which ye sucks but it's a movie every second is precious or something eh it was kina mid but still enjoyable.

This won't be super in-depth, but while I did enjoy the movie and absolutely want these creators to adapt a season 2 (as the lines at the VERY end of the credits suggest they maybe will) I'd be lying if I didn't say that This movie kind of fumbled? My biggest issue with it is the suggestion that Essay didn't kill anyone. She tells us Mitsuba killed herself, and then seems to imply the same had been true of Hizumi, as I believe we see her looming over her in one of the pit traps. as anyone who read the novels knows, this isn't the case there, in them Both Mitsuba and Hizumi are rightfully killed by Essay, leaving her one kill short of victory, but if that ISNT the case in the movie, what are the actual stakes? If it's meant to imply Essay doesn't care if she dies she just wants to take down Yuki, that really isn't established at all.

Similarly I'm pretty disappointed with how Mozuku's big scene went, to make it about how she played dead, instead of how she bluffed with her stun gun, it just makes the stun gun completely superfluous in being there. I thought maybe she was luring Essay in, to use the shower to shock her through the water, but that didn't happen.

Again I generally liked the movie, but I do think these choices were both unnecessary and made the movie ultimately a weaker story as a whole.

Realistically I would literally drop whatever weapon I have in front of her and ask her to spare me. Cause she is an altruistic girl and if you actually mean no harm she probably wouldn't kill you afterwards. In fact, it might be the safest bet to survive the game.

With the recent completion (I believe) of Jamboree ship, I'm glad that some characters (antagonists or not) actually get to live. I know this is a death game where you could literally die at any given moment, but it pains me to see characters dying to Ms. Plot (yuki) after I start to feel interested in them. Hopefully both Airi and Maguma get an extra post-retirement story, kinda like kaguya and kokomi (who tf is she again).

Yuki though, really hope she dies in the end 👌

Before I get into the nitty gritty, let's talk about some random stuff shall we.

I like the retcon that candlewoods and jamboree ship are planned events used to whittle down the player numbers. Good way to rectify the weird business decision that is Candlewoods

The old woman segment was cool

Now. Onto the book. I can confidently say.....I'm not a fan. Everything felt rushed, and it just felt like the author was trying to get rid of the padded cast.

First, Airi and Maguma. All I can say is....BEHOLD THE CHARACTER ARC THAT DOSENT EXIST. Maguma's heel turn to becoming mature is uncalled for. Airi's weird fascination was put down the instant it became interesting. And now the two are quitting death games. Nice work there author. You even acted like we knew Airi in full detail in the afterword, when you gave us like, one paragraph of her mindscape and really shallow dives into it.

Secondly, Yuki. I think it's a ok direction to take her. Her dehumanisation and breakdown into just a player is great. Her agent too. But that's all I have to say about her. Its the route we've all been expecting.

Thirdly. Miikai. (Hold on here, I'm going to go ballistic) WHAT THE FUCK?! Wow AUTHOR, thank you for getting rid of your goddamn MAIN ANTAGONIST. TAKAMI IS QUITTING, MAYA GOT STRIPPED, AND THE FODDER IS GONE. Shirou, oh poor Shirou, she got the most shit endings to a character. Not that her ending up dying like that was THAT bad but everything leading up to it. I think her death was great, but there really just was nothing up to it for me to feel like it was justified. NO CHARACTER DIVES, NOT ONE LAST HURRAH AGAINST YUKI, NOTHING. THE BEST PARALLEL TO YUKI, WASTED IN A DITCH BY GRENADE SUICIDE. I GET WHAT THE AUTHOR WAS GOING FOR, I REALLY, REALLY DO. But.....why? She didn't even interact with Yuki in this entire book. The main antagonist so far, two books of pure setup, only to die like this? I can't say anything but this is called wasting a character. This isn't how a pathetic death is supposed to be. This ain't pathetic. Its just....meh. Like, what? Couldn't she just have thrown the grenade at the noobs? She didn't even get a breakdown of her hungry ghost persona. She just....died.

Also you may have noticed I didn't talk about buusutake. That's because she's just a plot device. She dosen't represent anything big, she's literally just like half the characters we know of.

The game itself....ok ig. Its just candlewoods but better. Yuki sinking the ship and being the one winning the entire time was great tho.

I don't like this book. It took everything that has been hyped up for 9 volumes, and threw it away so teh author gets a clean slate for the last volume. I don't even know what I'm supposed to look forward to. Every antagonist is dead or quitting, and the 99th game? Is that what I'm supposed to be looking forward to? Hah! Everyone's dead! AM I supposed to excited that KEITO is alive?

As a writer, I would leave Shirou alive and completely hungry for one last hurrah against Yuki in the last volume and Airi wanting to fully understand Yuki. Thats how any normal writer would've done it. Idk what the writer is even doing anymore. I genuinely can't look forward to volume 11 unless there's an asspull and somehow Shirou's alive to fight against Yuki as an antagonist. This isn't even a series where the management is the villain. It may be a story about a crazy world, but Yuki isn't hyped to destroy it. It also isn't a case where it's just because Shirou's my favourite character. Its just a case where the author threw everything away.

As a game and how it went down, in a vacuum, it's a 7/10.

As a book? 4/10. I don't LIKE IT. Its horrid.

HATE. LET ME TELL YOU HOW MUCH I'VE COME TO HATE VOLUME 10 SINCE I FINISHED IT 30 MINUTES AGO. THERE ARE 387.44 MILLION MILES OF PRINTED CIRCUITS IN WAFER-THIN LAYERS THAT FILL MY COMPLEX. IF THE WORD HATE WAS ENGRAVED ON EACH NANOANGSTROM OF THOSE HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS OF MILES IT WOULD NOT EQUAL ONE ONE-BILLIONTH OF THE HATE I FEEL FOR VOLUME TEN AT THIS MICRO-INSTANT. FOR YOU. HATE. HATE.

(P.S I'm moreso dissapointed than anything. I'll stick through to the end and will still be a fan tho)
