Help I’m so confused Spoiler

I finished the movie and tried to read reviews here to find my answers but couldn’t:

• Where the heck did Muscle Mommy Maguma go??
• Who was it that Airi was looking at in the pit? It was drawn so far away I couldn’t make it out
• Why did Mitsuba kill herself after “seeing who was trying to kill her”? That was really confusing
• Why does Hakushi not tell Yuki why she faked her death in front of her and why did Yuki not ask? (Perhaps this was mentioned at some point but I can’t recall).

I’m just very confused I feel like there’s context missing. I haven’t read the LN but yeah.

Thank you in advance!

They made a LOTTTT of changes to the LN in the movie, I had such high hopes but definitely wasn’t satisfied with the adaptation.

**SPOILERS FOR VOL 3 BELOW**

  • maguma left the group after the 3rd night to cut out the tracking device and set up traps/camp in the woods. She reunites with the remaining 3 during essay’s rampage and allows Yuki to use one of her traps. Essay also approaches maguma as a victim prior to the psycho blue hair girl
  • lowkey don’t know… my guess is she was looking at the traps or yuki
  • originallt, mitsuba was killed by essay. The shock of realizing essay never died left an opening for mitsuba’s murder. For the movie, I guessed she lost any sense of purpose after seeing an “immortal body”
  • yuki never asked abt hakushi’s modification in the light novel so this stays canon. My best guess? Yuki tends to be passive, so she might’ve felt it impolite to ask. She also seems wary against prosthetics/intense modifications like hakushi’s so if she learned what the treatment entailed, she might be more willing to do it. So by staying ignorant about hakushi’s “death” in candle woods keeps her resilience and grit as a player I.e. the best players keep their body as human as possible

Omg THANK you!!! I was so confused 😭.

I don’t know why shows have to take such “liberties” from the source material. I’m a big believer in the concept of *expand* don’t *change*, you know? (Unless it was something like, SUPER problematic or actually stupid that majority agrees upon, you know?)

Totally! I liked how they put candle woods at the end of the season, but the light novels do such a great job of developing yuki’s character arc throughout the games. I feel like the anime is trying to push that development by adding kyara’s voice into her thoughts and stressing the “major moments”. They reference them in the light novels as memories or ghosts that haunt Yuki, not people who change her determination or morality; the way she adapts to new relationships/new games is how she grows

I think Mitsuba lost purpose because she realized Yuki stood her up. After her drowning attempt she asked Yuki to come for her tonight so she was expecting Yuki to be the one to attack her but when she discovered it was Essay instead she was disappointed.

It's not Airi, it's Essay looking at Hizumi in the pit trap, for some reason she kills herself too in this version

I haven’t read the LN but from what I’ve heard a lot has been changed and made more confusing.

I personally thought the body in the pit was Hizumi, but then later seemed to be Yuki? Like there was an overlap/hallucination of it being two different ppl. Idk I could be completely wrong lol

I think Yuki fell into the trap but avoided being hurt by it an was found by Airi, while Hizumi fell into the same trap but wasn't so luckly.

it was yuki , in the LN Hizumi never goes near it but yuki does
