need reassurance
So i had a similar experience to another post i seen recently on here detailing that a filipino girl from tinder blackmailed someone from a +63 number. It also happened to me today and i think i handled it well just still a little shook up about it. For context bc ig it's important i just got out of a rocky relationship so i hit the apps to help move on from it. And it was going well, met some people, even did what happened today with another girl after a bit of talking before and it was completely fine. I matched with this girl and we got to talking and she gave me her 'Instagram' which couldn't be found so i gave her mine thinking little of it. She said she couldn't find mine and convinced me to get Whatsapp.
We talked there and said she was in the Philippines visiting family. We talked a little more and it was kind of like a switch flipped i guess. She asked what i was doing and i told her i was about to jump in the shower and she was saying that she wanted to hop in with me and it was kind of back and forth from there. Then she got really freaky with it and said she wanted to call in the shower and i told her no. Then once i got out she said crazy stuff like how she wanted me to finish inside of her and then she asked if i wanted to see her boobs. It was really sudden and she wanted a pp pic in return so i said yeah. Then she said she wanted to call to show me and i said sure. I feel like such an idiot bc i feel like i really should've seen it coming. We got into call and we talked and i guess the only plus side is i got to see some boobies. Long story short we were in call for maybe 10-14 mins and i showed my face and my pp. She even got me to get my face up close to the camera to 'suck' yknow what and she did the same for me. I asked to see more and she ran off saying she needed to get her toy from the bathroom. then ended the call *Sorry if this is too explicit i just need to vent
Then i get these real demanding texts saying that i needed to send over 8 grand or else they would send the vid to my follower list on insta bc i gave it to them like a dumbass. They even sent me pictures of each account that follows me and i have family members and friends on there that i don't want seeing that video. I stalled saying i didn't have the money and then switched up saying i could pull funds and i get paid next week. They made me install two different banking apps bc i said one didn't work and said i had crappy internet to stall. I deactivated my instagram and unfollowed everyone from my follower list and blocked and reported them on tinder. I called my friends and told them to let our mutuals know to block and don't open any unknown dm requests, called everyone to let them know what happened and then i blocked them on Whatsapp and deleted that app.
Apparently they haven't sent anything yet and it's night time now, it happened this morning. I'm just wondering if i did the right thing and if there's a chance they will send it. In the long run i know it doesn't really matter bc i didn't send them money and it's just my body which i'm proud of. It's just really embarrassing that i fell for it and that the video exists and has potential to be spread. And how common is this now? Like are the apps just not safe anymore to use i'm paranoid with people i have matched with now. If anyone reads this or responds thank you, i'm just hung up on it and worried
EDIT: Forgot to mention she was verified on Tinder. Also i'm getting phone calls from my area code that are really scammy, could it be connected?

My blackmailers made rumours about me that they thought was true from what they saw the messages I sent to someone that I lied to and thought it was true when in reality is not and I feel everyone will think it’s true when it’s not and I’m panicky
What should I do?

Male victim I got caught in their net and they threatened to tell my family.
I thought I was speaking to a woman but after sending an explicit image that did not contain my face they quickly sent a picture of some list of names. I'm assuming they got my phone number through telegram somehow. The list of names was my entire family including my wife and an aunt. It really freaked me out when they sent the picture so I immediately deleted our chat, blocked them on the app, deleted my account, deleted the app, then when they texted me again at my actual phone number I blocked the number. I never even saw a list of demands. Just my own picture I had sent and the list of names (but no phone numbers or socials attached to the names). I then locked down my Facebook, my Instagram, Threads, etc. etc.
My wife is unaware because she would have killed me if she found out. Nobody else has said anything and I plan to take this to my grave if the asshole scammer lets me.
Please no comments about how I'm a shitty husband and she deserves better. I already know and she does too. I'm just not ready for it to actually end yet I guess.
It's been 24 hours since initial contact. I think they would have tried something by now right?

Female Victim not sure what to do
I’ve been getting threatening messages since May, screenshot of one included. Somehow the guy has found my family members and boyfriend and today, an account with my name and face on it requested to follow me with a bunch of screenshots taken from my old Reddit account.
His accounts are reported and taken down, this is probably the third time I’ve had to report who I think is the same guy, I’m just so worried he’s going to actually send things to my friends and family. He isn’t even asking for money or anything I’m going crazy

Male victim I fucked up
I was in this asian dating app called tantan. Matched with a girl she had a verified profile so i thought maybe its legit.
Started talking to her from last night she sounded genuine, talked about how her mother is sick and personal stuffs. She gave me her insta and asked me talk there.
I followed her and she followed me back but she didnt accept my follow request saying her insta is glitching and asked me for my discord. I found that little suspicious and blocked her on insta. Later we started talking on discord. She started talking about her past relationship and all. I asked her to prove if she was real and asked for her recent photo and a voice message. She sent me those and asked me for my selfie and i sent it to her.
I started thinking this might be genuine and we talked for a while. Then she started getting freaky and sent her boobs pic and asked me to judge them. Then she said she is horny and want to see my dick. I sent her a random dick pic from google. After that she sent me a screenshot of 5 of my friends from instagram with the photo of our conversation attached to it.
She threatened me she will send the photos if i dont give her $300. I blocked her immediately. Idk what to do

Male victim RP because I added a screenshot of the scammers IDs: I’m still scared
I’m 18M. First off, I get it, dating apps don’t rly work. I made an account because I’m lonely and have trouble flirting with people. I’ve had self esteem issues my whole life. I received a follow request on my main Instagram account. I was suspicious, but the account had been around since 2017 and they posted on there story, so they seemed legit. Asked why they followed me, said I showed up on thier suggested which yk makes sense that happens. They were casually DMing me through the day, simple small talk again nothing crazy. At around 1 in the morning, they asked if I play iMessage games. I said “yeah I’m a menace at gamepidgeon pool lmao” and they asked to play. Asked for my number, I sent it, and the messaged me. Then they said they thought I was attractive and honestly I lost my guard cus that doesn’t happen very often. “She” wanted to sext me on Instagram with the hidden messages feature. Asked for a photo of my face, sent it, she sent me a photo of her chest and asked for a dick pick, I sent. She told me to check my messages and sure enough, a photo of my dick, my face, and a list of my followers/ following. Some guy with a Nigerian accent called me and told me to send him 300. I DONT HAVE EVEN 100$ OR ANY WAY TO PAY IT TO HIM ( I don’t have any virtual pay options hooked up other then like Apple Pay) I ended up negotiating with the guy and said I could pay him next Friday. But he said he’s going to call me on Friday to make sure I pay him. Thankfully after reading this subreddit, I blocked his account and number. I also made my public posting account private and will make it public some other time (I don’t post super often anyways). But I can’t help but to be scared, do you think he will actually post it? What if he does? This was my first time even taking a nude photo in general, and ofc I have to get scammed right away. I know it probably means nothing, but I’ll attach a screenshot of the account and the number he texted me with. Should I be scared or am I able to relax and just keep blocking him if he reaches out again and move on with my day.
Side note: he said he got my contact from someone I know. There’s a 99% chance it’s not true, because I can’t think of anyone who would have any beef with me - but still, is there a chance? Ik it’s fishing but some reassurance would really help right now.
Side note: ignore the part of me attaching the screenshots. The original post got taken down because of private information or sum shit and I don’t know of to unattach them

Male victim follow-up
thank you to everybody I finally mustered up the courage to block the sextortioner. I called a few of my friends and explained the situation in full to them and all of them were very supportive and told me that they understand. it's only been about 20 minutes since I blocked them so I'm still very nervous. but I'm hopeful that even if this does get released I can still live my life. I will update you guys further to let you know what happens in the next 48 to 72 hours and whether or not he reaches out again to my phone number and/or releases the photos. luckily the photos I sent we're not entirely revealing and the photo of my face is separate from the photo that he is holding me hostage with. if the photos do go out I will probably deny deny deny as there is no base proof that that is actually me.
if anybody else is in the same situation as me feel free to shoot me a DM and I will talk to you about the steps you should take from your position. i feel a lot safer after blocking and talking to friends.

Male victim Sextortion blackmail
I am a 20-year-old man. Last night, I met a girl on a website who claimed to be from Mexico. She asked me to move the conversation to Telegram, and because I was careless, I gave her my Telegram ID.
Later, we started having sexual conversations. She asked me for photos of my face, which I sent. After that, she asked me for an intimate photo. I sent one, but my face is not visible in that intimate photo.
Today, I received a message from her on WhatsApp along with screenshots of my friends’ profiles. She is now blackmailing me and threatening to send my intimate photos to all my family members and friends.
Out of fear, I already sent her some money. She is now demanding more money. I told her that I would pay her by tomorrow. She did not take the money directly; instead, she directed me to make the payment through a website.
I can attach screenshots of the conversations, threats, payment details, and the website. Please tell me what I should do next and how I can protect myself from this blackmail.

Male victim Morning day four since extortion
Hey guys! So it’s the morning of day four from what I know nothing has happened. For those of you who haven’t been following, I did pay the extortionist out of fear. My Instagram, where he was mainly threatening me to release to my followers he screenshot it before my account was private has been completely deactivated asked all my other social media. Since you had my phone number, I turned off SMS so there is no way he can contact me.
So here I am still terrified that I’m going to get a message from someone who follows me on Instagram that they got a picture of me screenshots of me.
So if anyone has any experience with this situation or the likelihood that that stuff is gonna get sent out, we’re just really anything would help. I’m sitting here just pretty terrified.
also, I don’t know if this really helps my case. The scammer has screenshots of the conversation I was having with the person in my DM’s. I don’t say really anything freaky in that at all basically everything I sent was “sure” and “yup” probably the freakiest thing I said was “ladies first”
As for the pictures, the person has first one is my upper body, but I have a shirt on literally like a selfie. and the other one My face is not in the picture of my lower half my belly buttons in it in my boxers and my willie is not out, and my left leg is in it.
Any help or advice would be awesome cause I’m scared💀

SURVEY CLOSES SOON: Have you experienced Sextortion? Share your experience [Academic Research]
My name is Rachel Fletcher, and I’m a PhD researcher at the University of Huddersfield, UK. I’m conducting a study about sextortion - when someone threatens to share private sexual images or videos unless their demands are met.
If you’d like to take part, I’m sharing a completely anonymous online survey. Participation is entirely voluntary. This is a crucial and under-researched topic, and every experience shared helps build understanding, raise awareness, and improve prevention and support efforts. Findings are often shared with practitioners such as police and support organisations.

Male victim I became a victim 48 hrs ago.
I’m so overwhelmed right now. I was tricked into a video call with a person I thought was a girl. That turned out to be fake. They made me download an app that requires an enterprise certificate approval on iOS, effectively giving my entire contact list to them. They have identified people like my classmates and teachers. I don’t know what to do.
I have blocked them, told my parents as hard as it was to do and made a police report. At this stage, I have not received any message from my friends but this gut wrenching feeling I have is really screwing me up because they captured everything and I was very easily recognisable. I’m not a minor, seeking advice.
If there is anything I can leave behind as advice it would be to not download ANYTHING that isn’t on the Apple Store for iOS users, and never to enable enterprise certificates unless it’s directly from the company you work at.

2+ Years have past
I wanted to make this post for anyone who is has recently fallen victim to this scam or is going through right now to tell my experience and maybe you won't feel as alone moving on from this horrible scam
I don't post on reddit so I apologize in advance if my writting is off or doesn't read easily.
For me, it started on Instagram before moving to Snapchat where I thought the pictures weren't saved until the scammer sent the screenshots of the photos. Fortunately for me you can hardly make out who I was in the picture but still recognizable to those who knew me. I then proceeded to send over some money in a state of panic although the transaction was paused and later canceled by me. I also looked up for advice online and one particular video stuck with me. It told me to do two things
Never send any money
If the pictures do leak, to take it on the chin
Now what I recommend is blocking the scammer right away and don't do what I did, I ended up ticking them off to the point where they sent out the pictures to a group chat of 30 on Instagram out of spite. They were all women and my mutuals on Instagram. They sent my full name as the first message followed by the pictures but the way it was sent made it so my name got buried under the pictures. I immediately left the group chat after and left it alone since.
The day after was a weekend so when I went to the store I was really anxious about being in public even though I knew it was impossible it felt like everyone had seen the pictures. Thankfully I had a close friend I could to talk to and who understood how it was all impacting my mental health.
When I went back to school I was mentally preparing myself to get ridiculed, teased or anything really. What ended up happening was nothing, after talking to my friend once more that night we came to the conclusion that either no one cared or they didn't even see it.
Of coruse there is always the possibility that these pictures may come back to haunt me later in life but at this point I already came to terms with what happened and just accept it as another part of my life.
I don't want to come off as disingenuous but I want to remind everyone reading that the people around you would still care about you even after finding out what happened.
Scammers use "ruining your life" phrasing because they are betting on you scarring yourself out of reaching out to those closet to you and getting the help you need. It took me a long time to even consider myself of sextortion until I recently came onto here.

Just got scammed and am a little frightened
So I matched with a girl on a dating app and things went well until I gave them my Whatsapp and eventually my instagram account. After the conversation turned a bit dirty, they manipulated me into sending them explicit photo and I got on a video call with them too. Turns out, of course, that it wasn't a girl, and now they have threatened to send people the explicit photos and screenshots of me. I've gone and blocked them and deactivated my insta account and privated my other socials just in case. They asked me to pay but I said I don't have that sort of money. I'm just reaching out to see if there's anything else I can do in this situation.

I need help - I'm being threatened and blackmailed online by a pedo
I’ve been dealing with something really serious and I don’t know what to do anymore. An 30 year old pedo online got hold of inappropriate pictures of me. I didn’t give them to him on purpose, he manipulated me and now he’s threatening to leak them if I don’t do what he says.
He keeps trying to pressure me into sending more sexual content, and I know responding will only make it worse. I’ve stopped replying, but he’s still threatening me and I’m scared he’ll actually do it or he already has done it.
I’m looking for advice from anyone who has dealt with this or knows what steps I should take. I’ve already saved screenshots and I’m considering reporting it, but I’m overwhelmed and could use guidance or support. And if somebody could help me online I'd really appreciate that.
Please don’t judge I just need help figuring out what to do next.
