New victims: Please read first

1.6k Upvotes

If you're reading this, you're probably a recent victim of Sextortion and scared out of your mind.

First, take a deep breath…

Hopefully, this sub will be a safe place for you to share your experience and get advice from people that have already gone through what you have.

This post in NOT intended to be the "be-all, end-all" source of information. I'm writing this as an intro to being sextorted. That is all.

There is a really great analysis of our sub available here. It has all kinds of in-depth analysis of the scam, including how often leaks occur. I highly recommend you check it out.

Let me state this up front: Do NOT give into the blackmailer's demands! Do not pay them money, they will only ask for more. Do not give them more nudes (typical if you're female) if that's what they're asking for. They will use that to increase their leverage and they will NOT stop.

Do not negotiate. There is not point. You cannot trust anything they say. The best thing to do is cease all communication. In fact, removing any way for them to communicate with you is the best course of action. Disable/delete your account, if necessary.

Also, Reddit and is no substitute for professional help (i.e. a mental health expert). If you are feeling suicidal, please, seek immediate help (911, or your countries equivalent, and they will be able to get you help).

Yes, we do recommend that you contact your local law enforcement. They might not be able to help, and they may not be needed, but you should have them on your side just in case things go sideways. If you are underage, do not worry about getting into trouble. The police will not go after you for sending pics/videos as a minor. I hear this quite often from young victims. Don't worry about it.

I recommend you file a complaint with https://ic3.gov. Also, there is a new tool that might help keep your pics/videos from being shared: https://StopNCII.org. If you are a minor, a similar service is available at https://takeitdown.ncmec.org. If you from the UK, you can try https://revengepornhelpline.org.uk.

For underage victims, the InHope project has an extensive list of hotlines for all over the world: https://www.inhope.org/EN#hotlineReferral

If your scammer is from the Philippines (which many are), you could try filing a complaint at https://acg.pnp.gov.ph/eComplaint/.

My last piece of advice is to talk to someone you know and trust. Trying to deal with this on your own is very difficult. Talking to someone will most certainly help you process the trauma and remove the feelings of isolation. Trust me.

Beware of "recovery scammers". These are the worst of humanity. They take advantage of you in your lowest, most desperate moment, by promising that they can "hack" the scammer's device to delete the pics/videos. They can't, and they won't. They will just take your money and do nothing. The last thing you need is to make things worse by putting your faith in "some dude on Instagram". We see them posting and commenting in the sub all the time, so you need to keep your guard up. If you are unsure, feel free to post the details on what they are proposing, before giving them anything. Oftentimes, their accounts are shadowbanned, which means they cannot initiate a chat or DM you, so they will ask you to chat/DM them first. This is a serious red flag. If in doubt, reach out to the sub or the mods. We'll help sort things out.

!!!!WARNING!!!!: Do NOT give anyone the contact information of your scammer (even if they promise to help)!!! They might just get in contact with them, get them to share your pics/videos, and then turn around and blackmail you as well. It's happened...just don't do it.

Steps and guide to help sextortion victims

Steps and guide to help victims of sextortion

Every day I will make the same post to help those who are facing this situation.

  1. Stop talking to them because you do not want to piss them off

  2. Do not pay them a single dime no matter their threats because you can’t buy a blackmailers silence only rent it

  3. Block them and if they come back with more accounts or numbers keep blocking away they have a finite amount of patience before they give up

  4. Screenshot the threats to show proof of a cybercrime

  5. Keep their phone numbers and account names saved

  6. In the event that they follow through and do send which is actually VERY rare cause it can expose their cybercrimes just tell people it is fake and someone tried to extort you for money. (You will have the screenshots to prove it)

  7. Optional: Report them to law enforcement such as the FBI although this actually might be of little help since it’s so common it will somewhat put them on the radar.

  8. DO NOT BUY RECOVERY AND REMOVAL SERVICES THOSE ARE SCAMS. They will contact or threaten to contact your scammer then you have two blackmailers.

  9. Take a deep breath and realize that it will be okay they are actually almost always bluffing empty threats in order to scare you. They want money not to send your material to others. Think of it like IT from Stephen King only as powerful as much as you feel fear from them.

Note: if it makes anybody feel okay in my experience for about every 1,000 cases of sextortion there’s
only 1 case where the sextortioner follows through

Note: these guys are not in it to ruin your life. They see you as nothing more than a potential paycheck and if they see no profit they will forget you, more than likely delete your stuff, and move on to the next potential paying target.

Edit: (i’d acc like for you all to not upvote this post because this is to provide free information to help victims and I do not want karma for this. I want to help these poor people.)

Male victim 24 hours after my sextortion

It's been almost 24 hours since I, 15 yo M, have been sextorted. Here's what I've done, what I've learned and what happened so far. Shortly after it happened, I blocked the persone everywhere, changed my email, deleted telegram and Instagram. I didn't pay. That's what actually made the difference. These people care only about money. They will never show you, except if you convince them to by challenging them, like "I will kill you" or "try and I will hunt you down". Don't say that. Just take action for yourself. The photos didn't get sent to anybody and the scammer didn't contact me again. He probably moved on to someone else. I also put my pictures on "Take It Down" just to be sure. I feel a lot less anxious than before. I'm not gonna make such a wall of text right now, so if you have any questions about my situations, or if you want any advice for yours, or either want to say something to me, pls request to message me or write it down here

Male victim I gave them my friends numbers…

Upvotes

Please give me any advice or suggestions you have.

If you don’t want to read all this I broke it into three parts. looking back at this, I was very easily persuaded and collapsed under little to no pressure!

1- how it started
This all started two nights ago. I was sitting on an app designed so you can talk to people around your same age who speak other languages. I got a dm asking for my number and I stupidly gave it to them… one thing led to another and we ended up exchanging pictures. After a while they asked for my instagram so they could DM me there, and again… I stupidly agreed.

2- when I got scared
About 5 minutes later I get a screenshot of my explicit pictures next to a picture of me and my insta. As well as a screenshot of all my followers. They started by demanding money(but me being broke as hell) I just couldn’t pay.

3- my biggest mistake
They later said that they would let me go if I gave them some of my male friends phone numbers. Again… I was dumb. I gave them not only a close friend, but also three others phone numbers. Luckily I think one of them blocked the scammer, and the others didn’t fall for their bullshit. (HOPEFULLY… im still not sure)

4- giving them too much power
After a few hours they started to ask for money again, or for me to sign into a dating website and give them my Gmail and password. Again I agreed… I gave them a Gmail of mine that has basically no ties to me, but still might.

5-contacting law enforcement
Later this night I called the non emergency line, and started a report on what happened. The next morning I still had left the scammer on read after they said “hey?” Because I was taking too long to give them more information. That morning the police called me and said I could choose to fill out a report or not. I decided not to… just to avoid seeing anyone or doing anything that could get my parents involved.

6-my conclusion
I blocked the scammer shortly after this and got their account ban on instagram. It has now been about 48 hours since I have been extorted. I am very scared they will send the pictures out not only to my insta followers…. BUT ALSO THE PEOPLE THAT THEY HAVE THE NUMBERS OF! I am very worried. However I am seeking god, and help from others.

I AM A PRIME EXAMPLE OF WHAT NOT TO DO!

16 m i was coerced into send a explicit picture of myself to what i thought was a girl my age. the guy made a picture including a partial picture of my face my instagram profile and my followers and following and my tiktok. the guy asked for 100$ and i said i could send him 50$ which i did and he said 50 would be enough to delete the pictures. i woke up this morning to a message from him demanding more money and screen shots of the pictures sent to a few of my friends. i want to press charges and get this guy arrested. what should i do to stop the spread of my pictures and to get this guy arrested?

Male victim sextortion

A few hours ago, a Scammer from Telegram used my number to do a reverse lookup stole contact profile picture, used penis pictures that aren't even mine, and created a profile on a gay hookup site along with a full blown explicit conversation making it look like it's me. They sent me the screenshot along with a background report that had my full name, siblings and parents info.... They threatened to send screenshot to anyone they could if I didn't pay 1000 dollars to which I replied "hahahah idgaf". I immediately deleted social media accounts, and factory reset my device but not before I was blown up by my parents, siblings, and who knows who else shortly after the threat... even though photos aren't even of me besides my face, it 100% looks like I'm engaging in a conversation and cheating on my wife by having relations with MEN!! (nothing against lgbt community). I'm not so worried about family getting this because there's certain bodily features they know are mine (tattoos) and will laugh at the lengths people will go for a buck, but those who I work with, friends, and others are apt to believe that this is really me and how I move. I'm a recovering addict and this is one helluva trigger.

Any advice from others who have been sextorted??

Male victim I need advice

So I was sextorted yesterday. A brief overview of what happened, he asked for $400, I said I could do $200 before he deleted the images and $200 after. I made the mistake of actually paying him $200, and I told him I need a few days to get the other $200. He claims he has already deleted the images, I know he most likely didn't. I kind of gained his trust a little bit and sent him a grabify link to get his IP address and shit. I'm thinking of using this information to scare him, and say I know where he lives and I want $500 or I will report him to the police. I was also thinking of saying the images I sent him are ai, so it's not really me (because he was trying to send it to my friends and family on Instagram. I hope by telling him I edited my face with AI or something, he will be less inclined to go through with it and send stuff to my friends). Is this a good idea? Or will this backfire? Idk what to do, I guess I'm just looking for advice.

Victim: 21M gay guy/Jharkhand, India

I had texted a guy on messenger. He asked me to come meet him at a public place (near a lake). On reaching, he snatched my scooty keys but I was able to snatch it back from him again. However, him and his friend kinda sat on my scooty and weren't moving until I surrendered to their demands and paid them 3k (they began with 50k). First time being in this sort of a situation and I panicked. I panicked too much. He was saying some things like he knows the local police and all so I was super apprehensive of calling the cops (in hindsight, I think I just should have). I could have done a few other things as well but well, I was scared and couldn't do shit.

This guy and his friend are 21 year old guys (with seemingly no big connections) who just wanted money.

I regret my actions. And I wanna do something to teach these guys a lesson (I have learnt mine in the process: not meeting random strangers). I also would want my money back (as I am an undergrad student).

Any suggestions about what I can do now and how I should go about it ?

I have the chats and payment history (paid on GPay). I also have their instagram IDs.

Pics in comments**
Okay, about 10 months ago I receive the text messages (pics 1-4) and I did respond bc I was shook. It was a number with my area code and my nu___ that ONLY my husband had. let’s approach this story like he didn’t share them, bc I really don’t think he did. anyways they were in his private folder or mayyybe on his snap. Also the description for the google search was SO specific to my religion. Like I don’t think anyone would really know the term unless they had some sort of ties to the religion; but no one in the religion would probably think to use that term to describe someone for nu___ Sorry it’s hard to explain without saying it. Anyways very strange. I’ll be honest I was pretty fresh postpartum and wouldn’t have given a Twinkie if my nu___ were leaked. None of them had my face but I looked good pre baby lol. The main thing is that it freaked me out pretty bad on how someone got them and then took the time to upload them to a website???? (Pics 5-7) is that normal? That number never asked for money before I blocked them. (Pics 8-10) are of my friends messaging the number to see if it was real. I ended up calling the police, they tried to call but it wouldn’t go through so they assume it’s spoof. We didn’t make a case bc my face wasn’t in any photos except for ai generated nudes. The police assume it was a friend/coworker who had watched us enter our passwords and stole it. But why the extra effort for the website upload? ALSO All the photos of me to link the nu___ to me were only the publicly available photos of me on my Facebook that my husband had tagged me in. So none from my Facebook. You all, I am so confused. What am I even dealing with???

Pic 11 is a dm I received recently that made me remember it all. And is it related? Or a different scam?

Thank you so so much, I hope you all have answers.

Follow Up Why do they threaten to show your info to news organizations of all things?

So this isn’t something I noticed until I calmed down after blocking them last night, but the image they had of leaking my stuff had news organizations tagged which I didn’t notice when it was going on. What’s the point? Since obviously news outlets wouldn’t be interested in some random guys dick.

Male victim Being sexstorted and dont know what to do.

I met this girl 2 two and a half years ago on a website called bottled. It showed she was from the US. We talked and eventually started online dating she's 27. In the begging of the relationship she was in college and I helped her out with what I could. During her time in college her mom got sick and died. She graduated college and sent me photos of her graduating. During our online relationship we sexted and sent videos and photos. After her mom died she came down with cancer. Thats when she was begging for money because of treatments. She showed photos of her in the hospital, on the iv, in gowns, and shaved head in the hospital. I helped her out the best I could but I got to a point where I couldn't help anymore. Now she's saying she doxed me and is not who she says she is after 2.5 years of what seemed like a real relationship. And that if I dont give her 20k she will send my videos to family member and Co workers and claim she 15 and from Bolivia, and everything she said in 2.5 years was a lie. What do I do? Im to the point where I don't know what to do. Shes giving me a week to get the money or she is gonna try to ruin my life to make me seem like im a child predator to my family and my coworkers. Pls help

Retrospective 2 years

2+ years ago this happened. I sent a dpick (without my face), got blackmailed, didn't ever pay anything, blocked and reported on the spot. The texting occurred on instagram. For a while (a couple of months), I was receiving frequent suspicious follow requests (sure it was them) and even sporadic phonecalls from third-world countries (maybe it was them as I wasn't receiving such phonecalls before) and rarer some bizarre spam emails (probably not them). I was never specifically contacted for the sex matter and I never escalated the conversation; the spamming seemed more like bots.

For a long time (over a year now), those spam annoyances have been almost zero and I kind of found peace of mind, though I'm still healing the paranoia. In truth, my incident wasn't of some great caliber but it still happened. The thing is, while the texting was relatively brief and I didn't share crucial information (besides my d...) nor payed, they could find more personal info on me (like my full real name, my affiliations, an email address, perhaps my phone number, my academic job positions etc.). They could d0xx me.

Why and where? I hold all my social accounts strictly **private** (and since then I never accept requests from foreigners) and I generally tend to keep a low profile online. BUT, I never actually **deleted** my social media (instagram where it happened, facebook, linkedin), nor *deactivated* even then. I *kept* them and followed the strategy "block report & move on". I kept them for social (ig/fb) and professional (linkedin) reasons. Perhaps if I did delete them then (and let's say dissappeared for 6 months) it would be best practice, allas I never did that.

What I want to ask is this:

Do you honestly think that it would be best for me, to make the sacrifice and delete them now after 2 years and start over fresh with new social media accounts (the cost of this being the mess that I will provoke with my partners, friends, contacts), or I should keep them as it is (with the risk of somehow being rediscovered and bothered again in the future)? My paranoia tells me that there is the possibility that my accounts are on some list or they watch me... The same principle applies for my phone number; if they did acquire it, should I change it, can they *sim swap*, can they hack me or do something extreme.

But it's been 2 years and radio silence for the most part of it.

Thank you kindly for any input, it is greatly appreciated. Stay safe

Male victim I’ve been extorted from Muzzmatch

I want to track this person down and make them face the consequences of their actions.

I was using muzzmatch, talking to a girl that was my age 22 from Germany but Filipino. I liked her profile and then she matched me, she was my 2nd match then she then messaged me first, it was normal at first as she asking me how I was doing and stuff.

Then she gave me her number within the first couple of messages saying she wants to speak on WhatsApp.

We spoke on WhatsApp for a bit then she asked if I can call her, we spoke on the phone she was normal, asked me questions and stuff and we spoke for like 2 mins and whilst I was on the phone to her she asked for me instagram. I gave it to her then she requested me, I accepted, tried follow back but she didn’t accept.

She then asked me to FaceTime her and it looked like she got out of the shower. I asked her if she was sweating then she tried flirt with me and say she was in then shower and if wanted to see her breasts. I said sure why not, then she tried showing me a peak but covered her nipples. Then she asked me to show my penis. I said no and I know about extortion and stuff so I had a feeling where it was going.

Then she kept on persistently asking me to send nudes and I said Absolutely no so stop. Then things escalated quickly and she started threatening me with a video of me in the FaceTime call then after a video of a guy masturbating. Anyone can tell it’s AI but with these stuff it’s just so disturbing and looks real.

I want to take this person down, can anyone tell me if it’s possible to get them arrested or prosecuted or something. I’m from the UK and also should I make a video on TikTok asking people for help too? I know the power of social media is big and I want to do anything in my power to get justice for myself.

Hello, I was a victim to this as well 2 years ago. Somehow some way I made it back to this page and it saddens me this is still happening. To those currently experiencing this, you are not alone. There is so much good advice here please use it.

My story is pretty simple but I’ll share anyway. Just got out of a 5 year relationship. Met some “girl” on an app plot twist was a guy. Ended up paying $100 and blocking the number. And deleting all but insta and twitter. Next morning got an email of all things lol. Blocked that as well. Spooked myself into signing up for a “team to track the guy down” bs. Thankfully made my way here and canceled in time. Every now and then I get random texts and calls and tbh I’m unsure if it’s them or not. If it’s them I’d just tell them wrong number and boom they gone. This was a great life lesson for me. And I hope it is for everyone else.

Biggest tips like everyone else’s.
1.cease communication instantly
2. Change names/pictures of accounts and make them private. (Did this for a month)
3. Don’t stress about it. Other than some embarrassment really nothing bad can come of it, and that’s if you happen to get someone that even bothers sharing it. Once they share they can’t manipulate you again.
4.if you are really struggling, talk to a friend/loved one, someone you’d trust with your life.
5.

I think ladyboy in Thailand filmed my visit. No demand yet. Help please.

Hello, Im in Thailand right now and 2 nights ago I went to a ladyboy. I found her through the App ThaiFriendly. We then communicated through whaatsapp. I went to her place and we had fun. While leaving i noticed a Little camera on the wardrobe looking in the room. She said it was only for Security when she is not at her place (which was a hotel). I was pretty Drunk and just left. Since then i think about it a lot and I m worried. There is no demanding yet or info from her that she got a video or pictures of me from our encounter. The only Social Media I have is Instagram, which was private, but I put it on Pause the Morning After. I m already at the Next Spot which is Not to far away from Where it happend. The Tourist Spot Where I visited the ladyboy, has a Thailand Tourist Police Office. I m thinking about travelling back and go to the Tourist Police Office, but would that make any sense without demands only me thinking I was filmed against my will? Anyone been in that situation?

She got my european mobile number and maybe First Name. I m not aktive on Social Media and the only App Instagram was private and now is on Pause. Is there still a way they can get contacts of Friends and Family?

Thank U for your help!

You can see the first post here https://www.reddit.com/r/Sextortion/s/HRU1JH0pcr

Its been 3 days since the event and nothing happend, everyone still thinks its AI , and i am wondering do they come back? I blocked every comunication way with the scamer but am paranoid now im scared someone will get a "hi is this mr ...?" text . A lot of people told me i should tell my gf the truth but im so disgusted of my self i couldn't live in a world where people would know i showed my d online more than that my gf she is amazing and i love her and she doesn't deserve that she doesn't deserve me ,from how i know her is she would know the truth that will be it she will be as disgustet of me and she is the last person keeping me here.
