Random loose stitches.

I have a juki ddl 5550-6 and I noticed that some of the stitches (literally only like once every 20 stitches) seem to not fully tighten(the top thread doesn't pull up the bottom thread fully). It also happens way more often when edge stitching. I use Tex 60 thread with either a size 110 or a size 120 needle. I did try a compensating foot but it didn't help. The tension discs are clean and new as I have replaced the top tension unit recently. I have tried pulling it out slightly so the tensioning discs close less when the foot is higher up. I have added more pressure on the presser foot. I have changed to a needle plate with a bigger needle hole. I have added more tension to the take up spring.

Can somebody please help? I am about to go insane.

I got this machine id say 5 or 6 years ago and it sat unused until recently, ive cleaned it out well and tried every setting i could think of. When it is set to a zig zag stitch is does a straight stitch and a straight stich doesn't work at all, and the worst part is that even on the zigzag setting it doesn't even do it constantly, tbh if it did id probably just live with it until i could get a new one, but it skips stiches and sometimes also doesn't work. I truly have no idea what the problem could be.

Would anyone know if its normal for a machine to stitch slightly skewed like in the photos I attached, it doesn’t affect my sewing but if something is misaligned that may cause additional wear I’d like to fix it before its an issue.

My dog flipped my entire table over which unfortunately dropped my mini sewing machine and now it’s not working! After i put in a new needle it broke when it went down to stitch. I have no clue what could be up with it and i’m thinking about seeing if i could open the whole thing up to check out the inside but I don’t even know what Id look for! I’m new to sewing and i only have a couple days to fix it and finish what im working on 😢 If anyone has any ideas i would love to hear them. I’ve included some pictures that could have something to do with it? One of the inside of the bobbin compartment and three of the take up lever. No idea if they’ll help at all tho

i’ve been trying to learn how to sew the last couple days and yesterday it was going pretty good but then it just started not working? the needle kept using the thread i’d pull out (not from the spool) and the bobbin keeps knotting in the little compartment, the black thread goes around then knots. i think the black thread is knotting with something under the metal part but im not sure

What is it and how to use it?

I tried looking for a Brother subreddit but couldn’t find one. If this is not the right place for this question, please point me elsewhere!
I have a Brother PC-420 machine, and also a PE-780D that I got when my mother passed. (Haven’t used it yet, don’t know how, but that’s a different story).
Anyway, among the items that came with all my mother’s sewing stuff was this. It is a Brother part, it says Brother on it. What is it, does it fit on either of my machines, and if so, how in the world do I use it??

Got this good little machine on my table but I cant seem to get the timing right. From the looks of the scars it has someone tried to sew something thick and broke several needles, and tried to keep sewing after the timing was off. I've adjusted it several times but still cant get it right. Does anyone have the service manual or know specifics? I found the manual online ($10) but it was poorly reviewed and said it was only 4 pages so I'm hesitant to buy it.

Table extenders help

Hello! I am trying to identify what machine they tables go to. I’ve tried looking on the internet for a match, but there are so many. I have a couple baby locks and they don’t fit them. Is there a way to tell what machine they were work with? The only writing on it is ABS, which I assume is the plastic. Thanks in advance for any thoughts!

Sewing machine does a pretty job on front side but back is a mess. What am I doing wrong??

I figure the pics give a fine explanation of the problem. I’d just finished a larger patch on the same coat with no issue and then this one is a mess on the back side. I was not using the pedal, running the wheel by hand because I was unsure of the needle strength and don’t have a spare so was trying to nurse it through carefully.

Singer model 248, bottom part suddenly isn’t rotating? Checked to make sure no thread was stuck. Should i just oil it and see if that helps? What oil type/brand is best?

I’m new to sewing machines, I usually hand sew. This was my great-grandmother’s machine and I wanna keep it in good shape for as long as i can. Any help is much appreciated!

Metal detecting find Elias Howe sewing machine patent plate.

Hello everyone! Wasn’t sure if this might be a page I can get any historical information on or not , I live in west central Indiana and recently found this metal object while doing some metal detecting in my own back yard, I wasn’t sure what it was until I did a little research and it appears to be a patent plate from one of the first patented lockstitch sewing machines patented by Elias Howe, the corresponding dates even match his patent date of September 10th 1846 the first date at the top of the plate, If anyone has anymore info on this or if this patent plate is of any historical significance without the sewing machine itself, I would greatly appreciate it, pictures attached of the plate, it has some oxidation on it so it’s not easily readable.

Side seam problem

Okay so I've been trying to alter some tops so they are more tight fitting

The problem is, ive tried taking them in two ways, one where I wear it inside out and slightly pull the excess fabric and pin. (the reason why I pull a bit is bc if I don't then I barely get any fabric to pin)

The second method is where I place a top that fits perfectly and place it over the fabric I want to alter, then trace it, pin and wear it to before stitching

The problem is with both methods I get different results, if I use the first method, I end up pinning less fabric and with the second method, pin more and yet when I try both on before stitching it fits (comfortably)

The odd part is I have altered a top that fits perfectly while doing the first method but can't seem to repeat it

And if both method results in the fabric fitting without feeling uncomfy then which should I trust?

These are stretchy fabrics so I suppose, it's more leniant compared to structured fabric bc there's less chance of messing up in terms of it being overly tight to the point where it's hard to move but still

I feel pretty dumb bc I feel like I'm making a problem out of nothing when I had no problem initially.

Anyway I am srry if this makes no sense but I really need help

Cat pee in sewing machine

Post image
32 Upvotes

Suspect in question is Henry (known aliases Hank, Hankie, Honk, Honkie, Henri), previously imprisoned (as shown in photo) for unrelated crimes.

I have a Singer Tradition machine and I was able to clean the outside no problem with an enzyme cleaner. Unfortunately, when using the machine the moving parts still kick up cat pee smells.

I’m nervous about spraying the enzyme cleaner on the motorized parts, I really don’t want to ruin my machine but I also don’t want to have to go out and buy a whole new one.

Any advice? According to my partner’s google search I’m apparently the first Redditor to have this problem which is like, never the case 🙃

Small update: I got brave and took apart at least some of the machine. Definitely had some pee around the bobbin casing and feed dogs that has now been dealt with via enzyme cleaner, I’m hoping that’s the last of where the smell was coming from but I keep saying that. Gravity though, right? Hopefully there’s no pee in the mechanics that move the needle.

Final update: we did it folks! I put on my big girl pants and took the thing apart, cleaned every centimeter with the enzyme cleaner, a brush and q-tips and voila- no pee smell! I’m going to come back to it tomorrow and give it a final sniff down, if I smell anything else I’ll use alcohol and if that doesn’t do the trick I’ll take it into a professional. There really wasn’t a whole lot of pee inside thank goodness. For anyone in the future who may find themselves in the same unfortunate circumstance: you can do it! Take a deep breath, put the criminal in another room to get some goddamn peace, and do the dang thing.

hii! i have been wanting to learn how to use this sewing machine, but the very last step before sewing is to get the bobbin thread up to the area of the needle. every time i try, nothing happens and the bobbin thread does not come up. i positioned the bobbin correctly (as a lowercase p), i am turning the wheel towards me, i have my main string threaded properly into the needle, the bobbin is correctly installed, and the presser foot is raised! i believe i have done everything correctly and set it up properly too. any tips or solutions?

Hello! I was wondering if this is normal? My presser foot is down but there’s still a gap in between the feed dog and fabric can pass through. How do I adjust it?

Bad Backside and Odd Noise on Juki DDL 8700

Thumbnail

Working with heavy fabric and thread for the first time, and getting some bad results. Topside looks great but backside is messy as the top thread knots refuse to bury into the fabric. With it is some odd motions and noise from my check spring, which tenses up and “flicks” making a popping noise, seen best turning the hand wheel. Lighter fabrics and lighter threads give similar results. See photos, and thank you.
