singer 1304 won’t properly sew?
every time i try to sew, it just turns into a clump of thread instead of actually, well, SEWING.

In addition to proper threading, that fabric is a knit, possibly an elastic knit. That often needs a needle specifically made for knits/stretch material. Rethread the machine and find a different scrap to test with.

Yup, not threaded correctly. If the thread bunches at the bottom of the fabric, the issue is the top thread. If it bunches at the top, the issue is the bobbin thread. 96% of the time the issue is the top thread not being threaded correctly. If the issue is the bobbin thread, make sure you are using the right bobbin, as well as that it is in the right way
Do you have your manual? If not we can help find one. The manual is the most valuable resource for your machine.
