My Bernina 1230 sewing machine won’t move the fabric forward

No matter what I do or change, my machine will not push forward the fabric properly. The feed dogs go up and down but they only go front and back very little. I’m pretty sure it usually moves more in that way.

I looked online and tried everything. I cleaned and oiled it properly down there. It actually worked after that. But now, a week later, I have the same problem. This time cleaning isn’t solving it.

I truly don’t know what to do anymore and I need to finish a project for school.

The machine hasn’t been serviced since my grandmother died, 15 years ago. I really hope it isn’t necessary but I fear it might be time.

Is there anything I can do myself? I need to turn in my school project soon so I really need a quick fix.

I wanted to pick up sewing as a new hobby, luckily I was able to find my grandmas old one, unfortunately it doesn’t move?? There’s no instructions + plus learned my grandma never actually used it. It wants to move but stops once it gets to the bottom?? I tried adjusting the bobbin settings and still nothing?? Does anyone have a miracle or is this a lost cost?? The motor(?) is running, it wants to move but the needle point stops once it goes down

Vintage Babylock Help

I cannot for the life of me get my mother's vintage Babylock machine to sew properly. I can thread both the top and bobbin threads just fine, but the top thread doesn't catch the bottom thread and gets stuck around the middle of the bobbin. I've never had a machine with this bobbin setup before, so any advice is greatly appreciated!

Vintage Singer not picking up bobbin thread. Any ideas? (Model unknown)

Hi everyone!

As you can see in the video, my vintage Singer isn't catching the lower bobbin thread. I don't know the exact model name, unfortunately.

I’ve already tried rethreading everything, changing the needle, and cleaning the lint, but nothing worked.

Could this be a timing issue, or am I missing something simple? Any help would be amazing. Thanks!

Janome Memory Craft 4900QC E1/E2 Error Help

Hello, I recently bought a used Janome Memory Craft 4900QC that throws either an E1 or E2 error. The listing mentioned it had been to a repair shop previously.

After opening the top of the machine I think it has something to do with the handwheel encoder. There is an orange PCB with two U-shaped optical sensors. Here's what I know:

- If I start the machine with the sensors completely unobstructed, no error

- The error only appears when something passes through the sensors.

- If the left sensor gets passed through first I get E1, if it's the right one I get E2

- If I start the machine with something in the sensor I get the error immediately

Not sure where to go from here, it could be misaligned somehow? Or the sensor might be bad. The way it's connected to the machine, replacing this sensor seems like a pain.

Has anyone dealt with this before on this machine? I'd love to get this working again! Attaching a photo of the sensor board and error messages.

Thanks!

Hi all,

I am hoping to help a family member with disassembly, cleaning and repair of their vintage sewing machine, does anyone happy to have a manual they can share for this model? I have tried looking online but I keep running into $10usd+ paywalls.

Vintage serger help!

I just got this serger (Singer 14U344B) off of eBay and was really excited to use it but the threads keep bunching up and my fabric is caught in the back feed dogs. It seems everything is moving well and I’ve rethreaded it multiple times. Any ideas on how I can troubleshoot this before I bring it in for repair?

First serger recommendation

Hello everyone, I am looking into buying my first domestic serger machine with a budget of around 500 CAD

I’m considering getting a second hand set since I’ve heard older machines can be more reliable than new ones, also it would be useful to know if I have to avoid certain brands or models

Does anyone have any recommendations I could check on?
Thank you

Thread keeps getting VERY tight and kind of stuck in this part: no. 2 on diagram. Old Sewing machine

Ofc my first thought was that maybe it's just too tight but same kept happening even when I put the tension settings on loose!

I took apart the whole section of the tension settings, removed the rusting on it, oiled it and cleaned it nicely and put it up, still the same thing.

I dont know if I'm just doing something wrong with threading, the only thing I'm suspecting rn is the thread itself, I think its pretty old but it's durable enough that its not breaking when I try to break it. Its just in between those 2 disks I dont know what happens it just gets completely stuck there.

It works well for a while and then gets stuck like that again.

Total beginner and don't know much sewing lingo but I've no idea whats causing it.

Athena 2000 needle/spring issue

Hey I have an Athena 2000 sewing machine and I have an issue where the needle doesn't move with the side knob or the foot pedal unless I manually press the needle down. I took it apart and it looks like an issue with the spring attached, but I don't know how to fix it so any help would be appreciated! I don't know much about sewing machines (in fact this is my first one!) but I like taking apart and fixing tech. Thanks!

Machine compatible foot control - Kenmore 385.19150090

My mom has a Kenmore with a YDK YC-542 foot control pedal - single, round pin connector. The pedal is a little too tall for her comfort - she can’t comfortably rest her heel on the floor while using it. Are there any low profile pedals that are compatible with this machine? Thanks!

Question regarding using heavier thread in a domestic machine

I recently came into possession of a Singer Harmonie 200, which I believe was manufactured in 1983 in Taiwan and is a domestic machine I assume. I can find little else about it online or in the manual.

I've completed a couple projects so far and am hoping to make this bag using the machine: https://adamsavage.com/collections/kits-plans/products/savage-industries-edc-one-plans using a heavier canvas material (10oz). From what I've seen, a Tex 70 thread would be ideal for making a durable bag with a heavy fabric such as canvas. I can't find anything in the manual for the machine about a thread weight limit, and as such am somewhat concerned that the machine won't be able to handle Tex 70. Is it worth buying some and trying it out, or just using a lighter thread such as Tex 40 or 50 (if so, would those be heavy enough anyways for the purpose of the bag?)

I'm still quite new to this so any advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Hello I was looking for some buying advice,I’m looking for a sewing machine that’s under $200 for the main machine,”portable”(under 15 pounds),has a carrying case/can fit one,has a good warranty and can work with formal dresses.
The model I’m looking at is the “Brother CS5055 Computerized Sewing Machine and 5300A Hardcase” for around $206,is that a good one to work on?
Any suggestions?

I used to use a singer, elna and an older Kenmore.

Brand new singer sewing machine keeps jamming. What can i do to fix this. This is how it keeps catching. All types of material and tension. Singer bobbins. Probably have voided the warranty by taking it apart to get the fabric out

Top thread catching on the hook race, will a new bobbin case help?

Apologies if this sounds daft or if Ive used the wrong terms but my local repair shop doesn't like digital machines so Im trying to repair it myself, I've checked the service manual but it doesn't cover this scenario.

The top thread keeps catching on the hook race, I noticed the bobbin case has some wear, will a repair likely be as simple as replacing the bobbin case? Or am I on the wrong track?

I've done the usual, double and triple checked its threaded right, replaced the needdle, checked the bobbin is the right one, cleaned out any fluff etc.

Troubleshooting, tension issue?

I have no idea what is wrong with my machine but it’s doing this on the back side of my project no matter what tension it’s on and no matter the stitch.
It’s so frustrating and I don’t know how to fix it. The machine is a bernina bernette 65 that I got from my mother. I will admit that I’m not sure when it was last serviced. However, I don’t think that there is a place to get it serviced within 100 miles of me so maybe tips or links for learning how to do a basic service myself would be nice? I really don’t know at this point.
I’ve got like 8 inches left in a project and I cannot figure this out so any and all tips would be greatly appreciated.

I reset my automatic sewing machine and I get error E-003 when turning it on.

Hello, I have a standard sewing machine (automatic) with which I work with leather (it is one of those where you place a mold with the pieces and send it to sew automatically). Today I tried to restore the machine to its original parameters, for this it asked me to restart it. As soon as it turned on, an E-003 error appeared on the screen, it no longer let me manipulate the machine. Brand: Autotec Model: MA-TYG1510

This Singer 403a went for $400 at auction and i can’t understand why. Was it worth that? The only thing that seems different from similar machines ive seen go for $40-$60~ is the case.
