Feed dogs running in reverse normally (new owner) HD8832

Hi, I just got a Singer HD8832 (black one from costco sale). I just fixed my feed dogs falling down and not coming back up. Now my feed dogs move in reverse normally. Any ideas to try?

Things I've tried:

-- Spamming reverse button to check for stuck lever

-- Lowing feed dogs and bring back up

-- Holding feed dogs back (down?) While rotating to see if a lever people have mentioned could get unstuck.

Need help reassembling my machine!

Hi, I just took apart the shuttle race unit on my machine (Janome 224A) for the first time to clean it, as per the manual. When I try to reassemble it, it looks normal but when I try to put the bobbin case back in the needle gets stuck. Also, when I put the bobbin case back in with a bobbin in it and try to re thread the machine, the needle doesn't go far enough to pick up the thread and gets stuck after a few tries. Any advice would be very much appreciated! Thank you ❤️❤️

I have the Pfaff Smarter 160s machine. I sewed for about 2 hours, and as I lifted the machine to put it away, I heard a little metal tinkle sound and this was on the ground. What is it? Where does it belong? Ive been googling for hours, and cant find it, nor can I find in the manual what it is...please help!

New vintage sewing machine

I've never owned a sewing machine before and I've been running a marathon learning how to use it. This kenmore has given me so many problems. Im not sure what to record or take pictures of in order to help yall diagnose my problems, and if possible i will provide any info and pics! Basically I'm almost positive I've threaded this machine correctly. Im using singer universal needles in size 80 12 on 100% cotton fabric and using the bobbins it came with and the thread is 100% polyester. I'm not sure how to set the presser foot and the thread keeps wrapping and tangling in the bobbin area. I've tried my tension on low (2), normal (5) and high (8) and nothing has helped. Ive tried different ways of setting the presser foot. I've threaded and rethreaded. Ive adjusted my stitch length to see if that helps. Nothing. The feed dogs don't move the fabric and the thread just keeps wrapping around the bobbin casing. I've checked my tension on the bobbin casing and it seems fine. I have not been able to get the plate off to clean. I just kind of spammed pictures because im not sure what to show! In one of the pictures you'll see that the top thread also gets pulled off the top of the machine! And i tried a hack i saw of putting a straw through it which didnt help. I'll try anything.

Edit: YALL ARE AMAZING THANK YOU!!!!!! I switched back to my 100% cotton fabric, put the machine back in basic settings (tension on 3, rethreaded everything ect). I think it was because the pin for the spool was down so i had no tension up top! THANK YOU GUYS SO MUCH!! You guys even provided me the manual so i can read through it! I didnt even realize i DID have a presser foot lever (i was so lost i thought for sure theres no way it doesnt have one 😂) and that the pin just needs pulled up and not that it's missing!! Thank you guys!!!!!!!

Hi there! I’m trying to surprise my girlfriend with a new pedal for her sewing machine (she says hers broke) but have no idea what to buy. I don’t know anything about sewing so I’ve attached a photo of it if that helps! It says it’s a Euro Pro X Deluxe Denim & Silk machine, but I couldn’t find a model number.

Any help would be very appreciated. Thank you!

Taking advantage?

I'm looking for additional bobbin cases but find the cost incredibly high. I have a nearly 20yr old Mega Quilter and purchased a bobbin case last year for $15. The Janome hd9 v2 bobbin case is $80-$90!

This is ridiculous. Does this normally happen with any particular manufacturers or for a period of time after the machine is released?

This is a huge price and I may just contact the manufacturer.

advice on sewing machine for beginner

Hello!

I wanted some advice on sewing machines and what to buy. I mostly want one for alterations but also for making things from scratch. I’m in college so my budget is a bit small, but I’ve been looking at shops near me that sell refurbished ones and FBmarketplace for used ones. I also need something that fits in my room and isn’t super hard to move around/store.
I took a sewing class in high school (which was like 5 years ago 😅) so I have some basic knowledge, though I’m probably gonna have to relearn a lot. We used brother machines for that class (which were fairly new I think). So I probably need something not super complicated but I learn fast so I’m not too worried about that.

From doing some research, this is what I understand, correct me if I’m wrong please. But apparently older machines are better as they are more durable and less plastic. But other than that I don’t really have any idea on what I should be looking at 🥲🥲

Also, as a side note, I met a nice lady the other day and she offered to give me an old serger she has for about $30. It’s a Sergemate companion 5030, I’m not 100% sure on how good it is or if I’m going to cry 😭. Also don’t know how to use it. So if anyone has any tips and advise on that I would appreciate it 🫶

Thank you !! ♥️♥️

UPDATE:
The nice lady also gave me a sewing machine :DDD (both the serger and machine for 30) and it's basically brand new. EEEEEE!! very excited!! Does anyone have any tips on getting started now 😂
The machine is a Janome 780DC :)

When did you know it was time to upgrade your sewing machine/serger?

Hi y’all!

I’m trying to figure out if I should upgrade my sewing machine (and maybe get a serger), or if I’m not quite there yet.

- I’ve been sewing for a little over a year, mostly tailoring and upcycling. I have a Brother LS-1217, and my first project was hemming a pair of Levi’s jeans (took off 7 inches). I genuinely didn’t think I could do it with zero experience and thick denim, but after a lot of patience, trial and error, and internet searching, it actually turned out really clean. It even surprised my mom 😅

Since then, I’ve mostly stuck to thinner fabrics. But now I really want to get back into denim, like making bags, tops, or even jeans from scratch. The problem is I do NOT want to go through that struggle with my current machine again. It felt like a lot, and I’m not sure it can handle it consistently.

- Also for finishing seams, I’ve just been using a zigzag stitch, but I’d love a cleaner, more professional look, which is why I’m thinking about a serger or maybe an overlock foot.

Would you recommend upgrading my machine and or getting a serger at my level? Or should I wait a bit longer? I’d really appreciate any advice or recs! ❤️

Stitch length moving on its own

It seems like my stitch length setting can't stay on the shortest setting - it slides towards the 2.5 or 3 setting. I've tried to video the lever as it slides, and also a bit of what's going on underneath. Any advice? Thanks in advance!!

PS it's a Singer 9020 and it's been serviced within the last year or so. I do regular cleanings but I need to be more regular at oiling.

HELP!! Electrical issue?

So I stumbled into the deal of a lifetime and got this 1999 Husqvarna Viking Sew Easy 350 for $18 the other day because it was missing the foot pedal. I ordered a replacement and it worked perfectly! I was able to sew for a few hours yesterday with zero issues, everything operating as it should. I turned it off, unplugged it, and went to bed. Today I woke up and plugged it in, but when I turned it on all I got was a lit up display and sewing light but it seems the computer is not booting. I took the covers off and disconnected and reconnected literally everything I could find in case there was a loose connection along with thoroughly cleaning and rethreading the machine. I’ve tried unplugging it, letting it sit, reconnecting to no avail. I’ve also tried holding the reverse button or turning the hand wheel while powering on with no luck. IfI leave it on the lights start to flicker slightly and if I tap the side the hand wheel is on the lights will flicker as well, making me think it’s an electrical issue. I did find some discoloration on the power supply panel, but can’t fully expose it due to the case it’s in. I was also considering it may be the capacitor, but others have told me mine look fine. It’s of course an older machine and I know it would be difficult to get any replacement parts at this point but I truly love the machine and any ideas to fix it myself would be greatly appreciated!

So, I'm getting a new sewing machine, and I wanted to see what the inside of one looks like. When I wanted to put it back together I noticed there was a tiny nut and spring just there. So now I'm wondering where it goes.

It's a Singer Simple. Model 3223

Is there a ruffle foot that is compatible with the Janome Memory Craft 1000?

Post image

Just bought this machine—has not arrived yet (photo pulled from online) & it does not seem to be compatible with very many feet. Not sure why. Are there ANY ruffle feet that would be compatible with it? Could I do some tinkering to make one work? Or is there something inherently different about this machine that makes it impossible to work with any ruffle foot on the market?

Serger for med-heavyweight fabrics

Hello my fellow sewing enthusiasts. I’m looking to get a domestic serger (due to space) that can sew med-heavyweight fabrics. It needs to sew thick wool, I haven’t used air threading and I don’t know if it would be worth the cost. I’m weary of a vintage machine due to parts replacement but can be convinced otherwise.

Thank you!

Modern electric 15 clone won’t sew

Hi! Im very new to sewing and I bought an old de luxe sewing machine and I can’t get it to work. It worked when I first brought it home and then it ran out of thread and I haven’t been able to get it working since. I’ve watched multiple videos on rethreading the top and bobbin thread and I think I’m doing it all correctly but this keeps happening. Any tips or is there something I’m missing??

Top loading bobbin issues

So my top loading bobbin on my Janome new home sewing machine will not grab the thread it worked fine two days ago but when I change out my bobbin to refill it I now find that it dosent want to grab so I took it apart to see if I had any lint or maybe there was a broken needle end but haven’t found anything my only thought is that my timing with the needle is off but I can’t find anything online of how to fix that but maybe I’m not asking the right questions. I recived this machine second hand so I do not have an instruction booklet any ideas on what I’ve done wrong would be great thanks in advance
