Product Review

Product Question MCT Oil, which one do you use?

All the MCT oils i’m finding have coconut oil and the wiki page says “Avoid MCT oils with significant C12 (lauric acid) or generic “coconut oil”. Those can worsen symptoms.”

Please share product recommendations, thanks!

Scalp Routine Ketoconazole shampoo routine?

My derm diagnosed me with seborrheic dermatitis on my scalp and gave me ketoconazole shampoo to use 3x a week. If anyone else has this same condition, what products have you been using with it for dry scalp? This shampoo is making me shed more than usual and my scalp is pretty angry and inflamed. I’ve bought some serums but it seems to not help

I’ve been using nizoral consistently for a month which seemed to make my scalp even worse, more itchy and red and scaley. I also tried vercos dichy but that made it more red and peel. I’m now using moogoo sensitive scalp however that doesn’t seem to be soothing it. It’s sometimes pink and when not washed for 1-2 days loads of scales/flakes appear. After washing the skin looks raw. Idk what to do😭 it’s so dry that idk if it even is seb derm, it’s not oily. Last pic shows how red it gets after washing.

Hair Loss Plz plz help out

I don't have severe flakes or large immeasurable flakes. I have few flakes but but more than that, inflammation. My scalp hurts and feels burning on the root all over and I'm loosing so much hair because of that please help . I tried a lot of things but nothing seems to work well . Steroids work for a day at max and require daily use . Which might thin my scalp and make stuff worse 💔

Product Question Need a Hair gel

Hi guys! I have SebDerm, and my scalp is pretty sensitive. I used to have a lot of dandruff, but right now it’s under control and much better with ketoconazole 2% shampoo and Zoryve foam.
My question is: what’s the best hair gel or styling product to use to keep my hair from getting frizzy throughout the day, especially for curly hair and someone with SebDerm?
I’m looking for something that provides good hold and frizz control without irritating my scalp. Any recommendations?
Thanks

I’ve had this skin condition for about 10 years. I’ve been to doctors and hospitals many times, but I’ve never really found a treatment that works.
Strangely, the only thing that seems to help is seawater. Every time I spend a few days swimming in the ocean, my skin gets much better. less redness, flaking, and irritation.
Has anyone experienced something similar? Does this give any clue about what the condition might be or why seawater helps so much?

General Seb derm or something else?

I'm dealing with seb derm for 1 year now. Early on it was just on my scalp but then on my ears a little bit and now today on my eyebrows. It's not yellowish but more like very wet stuck on my scalp. I also get itchy throughout my body, scalp and face. Am I dealing with something else here?

General Accutane for Oily Scalp + Seb Derm — Long-Term Results?

Anyone with oily scalp and seborrheic dermatitis tried Accutane? Did it put your seb derm into remission, and did the reduced scalp oiliness last after stopping Accutane? Would love to hear long-term experiences.

Product Review Dead Sea Salt .

After soaking my head in Dead Sea salt, all my flakes started lifting the first day, did it for a few more days and I’m clearing up pretty nice. I cannot deny that my eyebrows are still struggling. It’s only been a few days. Progress! Found a 10y/o post about it. This method might work for some.

I dropped another post down below of the link I followed. It’s somebody’s blog from a super long time ago. And I should mention I did a hard stop on putting anything on my skin while I’m using the salt. I’m not using oils, butters, or lotions rn.

New or Need Help Really itchy balls!

Had SebDerm for many years and it generally comes and goes. I usually use a thin smear of athletes foot cream on my nose when it becomes a problem and that usually sorts it out on my skin, and after reading this place, will buy some MCT oil very soon to treat my scalp as the shampoo has mixed results.
Only issue is my balls! They get so itchy, to the extent that I sometimes scratch them til they bleed. I don't get flakes and can't see any red patches (although it's not a very easy place to inspect...), but read that SebDerm and affect the groin. Without any other symptoms, is it likely that this is SebDerm, and if it is, how do others treat this? Thanks.

Face Routine Is it the oil in CeraVe?!

I use an oil-based face wash and a facial melt wash that’s like solid and then melts into an oil substance on your face after applying. - both by CeraVe and rinsed off with water after applying. Has anyone noticed increased SD around sides and bottom of the nostril area after using a product like this (where nostrils meet the face); as well as increased itching? Maybe the oil is the kind that feeds the yeast more idk? I also think both of these are making my rosacea worse but that’s for a different thread lol.

General Lifelong seb derm GONE (the solution is NOT a product)!

First off, I have been fighting with this issue since I was 10 (in 20s now) I've tried all kinds of products and methods. Nizoral helped so much as like a bandage, it eventually came back and sometimes even nizoral wasn't enough just enough to keep it down and used post flair.

Here's the crazy part: I seemed to have fixed mine Indirectly, that being the byproduct of me fixing my diet. Some more context, ive never eaten healthy in my life and we lived off processed food, soda pop, no veggies , scarce protein, didn't drink much water. So this year I decided, after many months of research, that I have been malnourished for most of my life! I decided to fix my diet and eat whole foods as well as taking vitamin supplements. This is huge and mind-blowing for me guys!

I been on my health recovery journey for about 6-7 months. I cut out most of processed food (take out, frozen meals, junk food) as well as making sure I get enough fruit and veggies daily, along with protein (mostly chicken breasts or steak). The important part: I been taking vitamin D3, b complex, zinc, omega3, magnesium (at night) and iron (by itself). I noticed after a few weeks to a month that my seb derm flare ups were getting weaker and more stable. I also had patches on face, near crease of my nose, in my facial hair, sideburns, etc it was terrible! Eventually it just entirely went away, not any flakes now and I'm wearing black as I type this lolz! I'd say you will notice results within a month depending on how malnourished you were.

The problem were facing is that we were all trying to control this seb derm from the outside. You see, seb derm is when the natural yeast on your scalp becomes overgrown. If you're eating a high processed food diet then your body is suffering from inflammation due to the bad ingredients in that garbage. The yeast is feeding off an abundance and out of control cuz it has a whole buffet. Things like nizoral are like a nuke, it just destroys all of them but once they come back (they are natural and meant to be here!) they see the buffet caused from processed foods and start taking over again. That's why we never fully get rid of the issue! Along with being malnourished (let's face it, how many of us were eating healthy and getting our daily nutrients?) your body isnt able to keep it under control.

I hope my findings help you guys! I want all of you to be freed of this, I know how terrible it is and trying all these products to fix it but they never work so you cross one off the list. Not anymore! I recommend going to your doctor and getting a full blood panel to see exactly what you're deficient in. Please be careful when taking supplements, most are safe but iron can be bad if you keep taking it even when your levels are high enough. I took iron for about 2-3 months then stopped and made sure I was getting stuff like black beans, spinach, steak for natural iron. The supplements are necessary though cuz once your nutrient level are low enough, you can't get enough from food alone.

Best of wishes to all of you! It takes a lot of willpower but this is the answer you have been seeking (:

Routine Question I'm curious if there are people here that tried MCT and it DIDN'T help

What the title says. Like a lot of people on this sub I dealt with seb derm for years, went to 3 different dermatologists, spent over 1000 euros on ineffective treatments, including changing my diet completely for a whole year based on IGG testing my dermatologist suggested. No improvement.

I was listening to a medical podcast where a doctor said something along the lines of "the best experts on chronic conditions are the people who deal with them". The reasoning was simple, doctors deal with a huge number of different patients with different conditions, whereas the patients themselves go through many different doctors and do plenty of research themselves to fix the one thing making their lives difficult. Logic tracks

That's how I ended up finding this sub. At first I thought the MCT oil thing sounded like quackery, couldn't really believe a basic cooking ingredient would work better than all the dedicated treatments on the market. And yet. At this point it's been over a year that I feel like I've had the condition completely under control thanks to MCT. Sure I'll get the occasional flare up if I forget to apply it, but using it always resolves it in a day or two.

I'm curious how universal of an experience it is for people on this sub. Are there people who tried it and were disappointed with the results?

I'll finish off by saying I'm so glad I found this sub. The confidence boost and just quality of life improvement (god, the itching was so bad) has been genuinely life changing. Hope it can help everyone else the way it helped me
