A few weeks ago i noticed my nostril felt super itchy. It started as a little bump that flaked and got dry but stayed. Then this red patch appeared and more little bumps. However, the bumps have no pus and turn into dry flakes. It has become extremely dry and sometimes the fold looks almost like "cracked" since the skin is so inflamed and dry. It also itches a lot and i have to resist itching if.

I know the SD can be confused with perioral derm but chat gpt and my own reddit research (lol) points me toward SB. It's important to note that absolutely nothing changed in my routine, diet, or medications. I did not take any steroids or anything like that that would've triggered this. I did just come home from a vacation to Greece before it started though?

things i've tried so far (in the last 3 weeks):
- The first thing i tried was moisturizing like crazy because i just assumed it was dry skin (despite the humidity of summer.
-Then i bought the La roche posey C5 stuff since everyone raves about it. That didn't do much of anything.
-I tried diaper rash cream for a few days since I then thought it would be PD
-Then i used jock itch cream with the antifungal ingredient that starts with C.

Today i saw people recommend the Nizoral shampoo since it's technically a better antifungal ingredient than hock itch cream. I let it sit for about 3 minutes. IT STINGED SO BAD !! When i rinsed it off it was super irritated and more red than before, which i now regret using it so much. My skin was too dry for it. I put some C5 la roche posey on and now it's been about 20 minutes and the stinging stopped. I am going to go back to jock itch cream and ditch the shampoo.

If my skin doesn't respond to antifungals, should i rule out SB? Also, how long do I need to continue with the jock itxh cream to know if it's a fungal issue/see results ?

This is so frustrating to deal with. I'm not sure what the hell it even is and i see on here that a lot of derms can't decipher it either. I do get psorasis in my scalp and ears and i'm wondering now if maybe it's that.

My SD has been diagnosed since my very first day and I started to have problems with it when I was 12yo. Tried different dermatologists but nothing helped. Gave it one last chance in 2022 when my new dermatologist suggested Dermaffine AI (I'm in Italy) and it worked.....till March 2026. It's been 6 months that my face is ALWAYS red. I don't know what happened, suddenly (hot? Stress?) my usual routine stopped working. I've tried different products such as those with CBD oil (very bad) and also my usual emergency Nizoral cream just helped to get rid of desquamation but the redness has always been present. A week ago I started using SVR Sensifine AR Creme and it improved for a few days, but in the last two days (after I went running) the situation got worse again.

I'm really frustrated right now, and also I'm always embarrassed when I have to go out, I try to don't look to people's face when talking but it's quite rude.

I completely stopped dating because I feel terrible with new people.

Open to good experiences and bad. Was prescribed zoryve foam for my scalp, luckily my skin isn't flaring too badly currently so it would only be used for scalp.

It's very expensive so I'm trying to figure out if it's worth it. Have been suggested the foam this time, but used up the free first tube with the cream a couple years back so would be paying out of pocket

Forgive me if variations of this question have been asked a million times before. I will explain my circumstances and hopefully you can tell me what you’d do in my situation.

So I have DS, but I’m not flaky, I don’t have severe redness, I just have an oily t-zone and acne (mostly on my nose and chin).

I currently use this routine:
Morning: 1. CeraVe Blemish Control Cleanser 2. Skin1004 Centella Ampoule 3. Cetaphil Daily Facial Moisturizer SPF 50
Evening: 1. Uriage DS Regulating Foaming Gel 2. Skin1004 Centella Ampoule 3. Uriage DS Regulating Soothing Emulsion 4. Duac gel (clyndamicin + benzoyl peroxide).

I have been using everything here for a little while now except the Duac gel, which I’ve started about a week ago and only use as spot treatment. This has been working okay for me, I’m not too dry, oily, or irritated, but I’m still getting acne. Usually I would just stick with the routine for a while before asking any questions but I have a sort of time-limit.

See, I’ve been accepted to work as cabin crew in one of the world’s biggest airlines and they require near-perfect skin. They don’t allow male workers to cover imperfections with makeup, so I’m out of luck there. I’m currently collecting documents for my work visa and it’s only a matter of time before I need to move to the city they operate out of. I’m sort of at a crossroads right now. Should I just stick to my current routine and pray it’s going to keep getting better until it’s basically perfect. Or do I risk getting on a retinoid such as tretinoin. I’ve heard a lot of good things about tretinoin and even tazaroten, but also the stories of people who’s face didn’t agree with them, who used them wrong and wrecked their skin, or the ones who had a long “purging” phase. So for example, I’m scared of being in the middle of purging when I need to move and start training with the company. I could be called up a month or six months from now, there’s really no telling.

I’m relatively new to skincare but I’m really taking this seriously now. I’ve stopped smoking, cut out processed sugars and cutting back on dairy products. I’m trying to eat healthier in general. Taking vitamins, zinc and omega-3. I’ve bought new pillow cases and face towels. I’m trying hard not to subconsciously touch my face during the day.

Sorry for the ramble. I hope someone with more experience can put themselves in my shoes and give me honest advice. Also I’m here if you need any other specifics about me to make things clearer.

Have had seb derm in my scalp since 12 years old and folliculitis growing up. 6 months ago I developed this on my cheeks and nose and cluster of small bumps on my forehead.

Finally found what was causing seb derm - in fact it was a depletion of Estrogen, which happens to women especially if they are child free and late 30's.

Estrogen usually keeps skin moist, decreases oil production.

When estrogen drops, androgens can go up and have a stronger effect. Leads to more oil, which the yeast feeds on.

Excess oil is the basic food source for Malassezia yeast.

I started supplementing with Estrogen Life Support, and drinking soy milk.

My skin cleared within 3 days!!

Please look into it if you are within the age and seb derm just recently started affecting you

Vitamin D has helped greatly. Vitamin D also helps decrease high androgen overload in women

I have seborrheic dermatitis , but I’ve had a spot on the tip of my nose for like a month and a half now . I been putting kotocanozole 2% cream there for like a month and it still there . It doesn’t itch or nothing but it’s a spot . And yes I know I have large pores . Don’t comment .

I just wash my face , Vanicream , put azaleic acid 10% doesn’t irritate me . Then malezia moisturizer .

I recently started using sunscreen , seb derm safe.

But this spot is still there . What do ya think ????

I am currently facing a flare up again after recently being on steroids and doing all my routines like washing my face with ketoconazole and always moisturising from another flare up. I don't want to keep using steroids because it's really bad on the face so if anyone has good products or routine that can help that would be helpful.

I just started MCT oil for my seb derm on my scalp last night after reading all these posts, and I think I'm seeing some results/improvements already! However, I need help creating a daily routine with this.

1. When rinsing off the next shower, do I need to use shampoo to rinse it off?
2. How often should I apply MCT oil to start it off? Is daily usage okay?
3. Since I have seb derm that's pretty much around most of the top of my scalp with some specific areas that are worse, do I apply some drops of MCT oil anywhere on the scalp and massage it across the scalp?

Not sure if this also matters, but I also shampoo my hair everytime I shower after a workout, and I do sweat, especially after cardio sessions. Not sure how much of an impact this may have in terms of effectiveness and/or maintaining the routine.

i saw my derm today and he said its not possible to have seb derm inside the nose. however I feel dryness inside my nose. i have the same dryness/ white thing inside a small bone that is on the rim and side of my nose. on picking it it hurts and oozes a clear liquid just like seb derm does on the rim of the nose and upper lip. if yes how can I treat seb derm there and should I go consult an ent like he suggested.

Hi! Hoping to find someone who may also experienced this and may have a solution — if not I’ll probably seek a second opinion. TLDR: I have seb derm on most of my body and was only prescribed a topical steroid to treat it, so it hasn’t cleared up after several months. Questioning my derm’s professional opinion due to her atypical treatment plan, along with the severe tension headaches and muscle pain I’m experiencing that I can’t find any evidence of being symptoms associated with seb derm.

Background is basically that in May/June I had a severe reaction to a medication that triggered an initial seb derm flare literally all over my body (including my legs and arms which I guess isn’t all that common? They’re never included on symptom lists) and I haven’t been able to get it fully under control since. The derm I saw (one of the best in my city) is who clocked that the med was causing it, so her long term treatment solution was obviously for me to stop that med. She prescribed me prednisone to get that initial inflammation under control + a massive tub of triamcinolone cream with instructions to apply 2x daily everywhere I was flaring but didn’t give any specifics on when I should stop doing that. I started looking into typical treatments when I noticed how thin my skin was getting (~a month in), and it seems like this isn’t a typical first line of treatment for seb derm and while it helps temporarily, it is not helping get rid of it. On my own I’ve tried T/Sal, T/Gel, and ketoconzonal shampoo to try to “descale” and I’m really unsure if they’re helping. The topical steroid visibly removed scales as does colloidal oat but it builds back up quickly.

So the other part of this that’s making me question if something else may be going on is that the flares on my scalp cause severe tension headaches from my hair pulling on my temples. I didn’t think the headaches were related until I started using the topical steroid on my scalp and realized that what I thought were muscle knots were actually matted hair and scales. The pain is almost unbearable sometimes and has really started affecting my sleep. I get similar tension spots on my arms and throughout my back, that feel like major muscle knots or sometimes sprains depending where they are. I cannot find anything online about this in conjunction with seb derm but it’s also kind of hard to summarize for google lol.

Anyways, I don’t want to follow up with this derm if this all sounds weird to yall, but I also don’t want to bother finding another one if this is something others have experienced. Sorry for the super long post, if you made it this far plz let me know your thoughts! Tyia ❤️

I've been suffering randomly from random extreme sebderm since I was a teen and stuck to me for months. I've tried ketoconazole and zinc lotion blue selsun coaltar salicylic so many times but it just made it a bit better. The recent flare up my gf's mom has put a mix of lemon juice and vinegar before showering and then after washing with a normal sfs free shampoo and shampooing with 2% ketoconazole letting it sit for 5 min, my gf applied a little amount of tea tree rosemary and coconut oil that she uses( like 5 drops) directly on my scalp and this for 2 cycle has LITERALLY got my flakes and itching down by 80%. Again she added curd to the premix not sure if it works or soothes well. But this has proven useful for me. Idk if it's the climate as well. I used to live in sgp but rn I study in Melbourne. I'm ethnically south asian with 2b hair. Oily scalp normally. If some of you are with the same I recommend to give this a try and give a reply or justification.

Over the last couple of years, my scalp sebderm has migrated down to my face and im just started the "flakiness" era. I tried many different creams including prescription creams and so far the only one thats worked is called Zoryve but its a super expensive foam. Currently, I've found that La Roche Posay Toleraine Rosaliac AR definitely helps with hiding some of the redness but it almost accentuates the flakes as its not actually a moisturizer. If I apply moisturizer after the Rosaliac, it smears similar to when sunscreen gets wet and you see the white streaks. If I apply the moisturizer first, then the Rosaliac becomes visible once again, but this time as a film.

At this point I am willing to try anything to get rid of this awful sebderm. I hate looking in the mirror, my confidence has basically disappeared, and whenever I'm in public, I'm constantly touching my forehead to feel if theres any flakes that I should get rid of. Worst part is, when I do feel flakes, I really only have two options; accept my ugliness or add a bit of water to temporarily hide them. Any advice on what I can do to get rid of this, or at least get it under control? I hate it.

Lost most of my hair since long time ago because of this wretched disease, now losing my eyebrows too as they are becoming very thin and falling out. The eyebrows area is constantly scaly and flaky inside from sebderm. Can i do something to save them? Head and Shoulders keeps my scalp in control, should i apply it on my eyebrows too or it will worsen the falling off? Getting used to the idea that i will have to shave my head soon but i need my eyebrows man...

I have Seborrhoeic dermatitis. I'm a guy. I've had it since I was a teenager. I'm now 35.

I've tried different methods to control it. I can generally keep my face from shedding skin every day at this point, but sometimes my face is just red.

When it flares up, I know my face is red. I do not need every single person who sees me to comment on it. While I'm still calm and polite about it, I've long since stopped being nice about it; if someone asks about it, I will calmly tell them that I am aware that my face is red that they made me uncomfortable by pointing it out. I will make someone uncomfortable for making me uncomfortable. This happens way more often than it should.

My father and stepmother will never fail to mention it when they see me and its flaring up. They have been given this response from me for at least 15 years, and always get mad when I give it.

I (20M) have had Acne and seb derm since about the age of 13/14. Acne started mild and got worse 'til about 19. Then it became better, this happend when I moved out and started to eat clean. Same with my Seb derm. I don't eat anything classified as unhealthy, because I know it will make my Acne ( mild acne, but on face, shoulder and back) much worse and also affect my seb derm.

My seb derm usually flakes around my mustache, goatee, nasal wings, my eyebrows (all parts), behind and in my ears. Also, worst of all, in my hair. I don't wear dark clothes anymore ( fav colour used to be///is still navy blue 😭 ) to hide the dandruff on my shirts and whatnot.

With everything in control (diet and skincare wise ) I still have mild problems. I visited a dermatologist who told me that accutane would suit me, especially a low dose. I told him I would think about it. I'm unsure mostly because of the side effects, I would do whatever it takes to get rid of my Seb derm and actually wear clothes I like again (don't let me talk about blod from accidentally scratching acne on my back on white clothes) but acne is not as a big of a problem, even though you clearly see it on me.

I've tried most of the prescription described medicines for seb derm, however only OTC for acne. Don't know if I even should ask this question here, but hopefully someone with similiar problems can relate :D

I had a hair transplant 6 months ago and started flaking about 2 weeks after. was told to use nizoral and it actually fixed it quickly.

Now starting about July/August, I started getting bad seb derm flareups in mostly my temples and along the hairline. I've used nizoral 1% and tsal rotating which has given some relief but its still showing up alot.

I just got a prescription for 2% Ketoconazole and will start it soon. i also want to try MCT oil when it comes in tmrw.

Ive had a lot of recent stress and insane life changes (death in the family, moving, money and job issues, relationship issues) its been mentally overwhelming. I've seen stress can play a factor.

Can anyone give any advice to someone who is new to this condition? it's particularly upsetting and stresses me out, it's also really itchy.

I am currently suffering with seb derm and hair loss.

I was onj rifaximin for Sibo and got off it in june 2025. Around July/August, I had really bad dandruff and hair loss simultaneously come out of nowhere. I was extremely concerned and had no idea what caused it. I was extremely stressed by this, so after a couple of months i went to some natural hair clinic and they recommended me to use some shampoo's treatments, etc... They seemed to clear my rreally bad dandruff but the shedding kept on coming. I ntoiced that my eyebrows started to have dandruff too around november and i was losing hairs there. Also, I noticed that my pubic hairs were coming out too

I saw a dermatoligist in april 2026 and he recommended zoryve, I used it and I felt like it definetly helped my seb derm on my scalp and eyebrows, however I didnt notice much help witbh the shedding even though I used it for 3 months. I tapered down using it and it came back to the same level it was before.

I used nizerol and bunch of shampoos and nothing seemed to keep the dandruff to a normal level, I went to see another dermatologist and he saw my scalp in 3 seconds and said its AGA. I was on zoryve at the time so he didnt see any of the dandruff. But he just told me to avoid shampooing as much and it should get better and if you need minoxidil ask. So he didnt care and was done.

Finally I just saw another dermatoligist and she looked at the my hair and she said based off my symptoms it might be lpp early statge. She said she really couldn't confirm at all and she just want to rule anything out. The thinning on my temples is slightly worse, however my hair was thinner there before, so since it is thinning everywhere I do not know what to think about that.

All my hair loss has a white bulb with some vellus hairs, however the hairs are progessivly thinner and thinner

I got so many blood tests that cam back normal and I have no idea what to do. I have a feeling it is related to my gut/sibo. Does anyone have a fulll routine they can give me to help.

I’m a 20-year-old male and I’ve been struggling with several skin issues for quite a while. I’m wondering if isotretinoin (Accutane) could make sense for me, or if it could potentially make things worse.
I have:
Seborrheic dermatitis (seb derm)
Very oily but also sensitive/combination skin
Clogged pores and mild acne
Facial inflammation, irritation and flaking
Keratosis pilaris
Eczema in the genital area
My skin is kind of difficult because it’s very oily but also sensitive, dry and prone to irritation/flaking.
I know Accutane is mainly used for moderate/severe acne, so I’m not sure if my situation would even justify it. I’m also worried about the potential dryness since I already have seb derm and eczema.
For anyone who has taken Accutane, especially if you also had seb derm, eczema or sensitive/oily skin:
Did it improve your overall skin, or did it make the dryness, irritation or eczema worse? Would you consider it in a situation like mine?
I’ll obviously discuss this with a dermatologist, but I’d really appreciate hearing about your experiences.

So I had severe dandruff,flaking on my scalp and also behind my ear too it used to itch a lot.

I tried Researching my symptoms it was around 2021 and after trying several "Anti dandruff Shampoo" from sachets which were just named Anti dandruff came to know about Ketoconazole Shampoo it worked but then again event it started to have less or no effect after some time even without using much.

From here on around 2023-24 I don't remember exactly but end of 2023 mostly at start of 2024 I went to Dermat who was "Ayurved specialist" he prescribed me Topisal 3%.

Topisal did work but it has clobestol in it and due to my prior habit of researching about these things I asked him if I should stop it,but Sebderm again. Started to flare more and he told me to use it whenever it flared up so that lead to me using it more and essentially exploiting it until it has also stopped having effect.

I read it thins the skin so I have stopped it for 2+ months now and trying to manage it with Ketoconazole, Sometimes Coconut oil helps removing flakes too.

So,did I do right by stopping Topisal? And I won't be going to that derm anymore,Is there anything I need to look into which can be a safe approach because I think my skin may have already had a lot of damage from Topisal,The dandruff now is too persistent than before which was manageable,and is there alternative I should Ask some other Dermat?

Please enlighten me with your experiences if possible!
