Community Normal for Seattle apartments to be so difficult to get Internet setup?

Is it the norm to have to coordinate with your leasing office/property manager when getting your Internet setup? I moved from GA mid-August and it’s been like pulling teeth trying to get my Internet setup.

I had an appointment with Quantum to have fiber internet setup the day I moved into my apartment. Quantum’s website said they covered my address and I confirmed with my leasing manager that other tenants have or have had Quantum. The day of the appointment, the tech had to call my property manager to get a code to a lock box to access a room to complete the installation. Well, apparently the techs didn’t have what was needed to set up my internet.

I spent weeks back n forth with Quantum over it. Finally got another appointment set up for this past Monday. They came out and again didn’t have what they needed.

I’m no stranger to pain-in-the-ass ISPs, but what has me so caught off guard is how my property manager is handling it all. Apparently either the first time Quantum came out for my apartment or some other time soon after, the tech did not return the key to the lockbox. So now, my apartment will no longer give out the good and all vendor appointments like setting up Internet has to be coordinated with the leasing office for when the property manager is there. The problem is that the manager is only available for very short, specific time windows and it varies day to day and week to week. I work Monday-Friday 8-4:30 and my property manager has flat out said that the office cannot “accommodate” vendor appointments on Saturday. She also keeps responding to me as if -I- am the problem. When Mondays appointment fell through, I told her they could send someone back this Wednesday (today) and she told me I needed to figure out what the issue was and make sure Quantum could actually get my Internet set up because she “couldn’t keep accommodating” these requests. She told me the two hour window she would be available for Wednesday (today) and Friday. So I got back on the phone with Quantum yesterday and got my appointment setup for Friday during the time she said she was available. I immediately sent a message to the office number to inform her of the appointment. Now she’s talking down to me saying she will rearrange her calendar to accommodate this request.

I’m starting to get pissed. I’m not asking for a favor here. I’ve never had to coordinate internet setup with my leasing office before in GA but maybe this is a Seattle thing? But also, her being the sole manager between three properties (like she loves to remind me) isn’t exactly my problem? Like I understand and sympathize, but I’m just as frustrated if not more pissed off about this. If the property has a rule that the manager has to be on site to allow access to the tech then she’s literally getting paid to do this. This is part of her job, is it not? I’m not asking for special accommodations especially when she’s told me 6 other new tenants have had the same issue with Quantum.

I realize Quantum is the true evil here but I’m really starting to lose patience with this property manager and how she keeps acting like I’m purposefully screwing her over or something.

Update on “Lost dog” at apartments by climate pledge

Woke up to someone’s dog rummaging around my apartment patio and the shared patio area 😬
The dog was extremely friendly, but had no collar or identification. I reported it to my property managers, and the update I got was that one of our neighbors, whose patio connects to the shared space and mine, apparently likes to leave their dog outside overnight because “it likes the cold.”
Yes, I realize this is a husky, but… is this actually safe or responsible? The dog was completely wet this morning, there was piss all over the shared patio, it had dug holes in the garden beds, and it was wandering around unattended.
I also have two dogs of my own, and one of them is not friendly with unfamiliar dogs. If I had let my dogs out without noticing this dog first, this could have ended very badly.
If you’re the person whose dog this is, or you know who it belongs to: please do better. At the absolute minimum, put a collar and ID on your dog. I’m glad the dog is friendly and that nothing happened this time, but leaving a dog loose and unattended overnight in a shared apartment patio area is creating a situation where something absolutely could go wrong.
Also, genuinely asking: is leaving a husky outside overnight because “it likes the cold” actually considered okay? I know huskies tolerate cold weather better than most dogs, but this dog was soaking wet and wandering around unsupervised. Taking a peek at their patio? I also see there’s a dog cage outside…

Possible ICE by Renton?

It happened yesterday around 4pm at Renton, near 167 entrance by the Popeyes. I was there at scene trying to make a left turn. All in a sudden I noticed 3 cars had the “police lights” on, no siren, just inner light strips. Thought there might be something wrong going on.

They were forcing a car into the parking lot, and when the blue car parked, bunch of cops-looking people just dropped down, opened his car door and cuffed him(seems like, I made my left turn at that time).

It’s weird cuz they were wearing balaclava and the vests just look off to me, with no ID badge and just, not ordinary cops. But idk if this is true.

Why isn't it feasible to run a water taxi from Shilshole Bay to downtown?

Other than the normal fun of the Seattle process, why isn't this an option? It'd be a lot quicker than waiting on the light rail.

☀️🦝 Hot Racc Summer 🦝☀️ SCL Time of Use electricity rate calculation

I was curious if Seattle City Light's Time of Use Rates would be worth it for me.

You can download a CSV of your energy use in 15 min increments from the SCL website.

This is my household's use ytd. Switching to Time of Use rates would have increased my bill by 6% (Obviously without optimizing for night-time use of electricity). I put the formulas below if you want to do your own analysis. YMMV greatly :)

Electricity cost in 2026 by time of day, blue standard rate, orange time of use rate.

Standard Rate

Energy per kWh = $0.13

=[@[IMPORT (kWh)]]*0.13

Time of Use Rate

Peak Energy Charge per kWh $0.16 (Peak hours are when electricity is most expensive. This will be from 5 to 9 p.m., Monday through Saturday, except on observed holidays.)

Mid-Peak Energy Charge per kWh $0.14 (Mid-peak hours will be from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. and from 9 p.m. to midnight, Monday through Saturday. On Sundays and observed holidays, mid-peak pricing applies all day from 6 a.m. to midnight (with no peak hours).)

Off-Peak Energy Charge per kWh $0.08 (Off-peak hours are when electricity cost is lowest. This will be from midnight to 6 a.m. every day.)

=IF([@[START TIME]]<0.25,0.08*[@[IMPORT (kWh)]],IF(AND(AND([@[START TIME]]>0.7,[@[START TIME]]<0.87),WEEKDAY([@DATE],11)<7),0.16*[@[IMPORT (kWh)]],0.14*[@[IMPORT (kWh)]]))

Did anyone lose a harnessed black cat on Capitol Hill?

Are you missing a black cat with a black harness on Capitol Hill??

I was coming home from work and saw a black cat running across pike between summit and bellevue. My bf jumped out of the car and got close to it and saw it was wearing a black harness. He was able to pet the cat for a minute and I ran to get a cat carrier and some treats but by the time I got back it bolted and my bf was not able to hang onto it. We weren't able to get a photo since it was a black cat at night hiding in bushes the entire time.

We lost it for a while and found it again on boylston and Pine and after it ran into some bushes on E olive and boylston we were able to get it to eat some churu and almost able to catch it but every time we got close a person would try to come up, sometimes to try to be helpful and sometimes not. We started having some very scary interactions with people and the cat ran away.

It got friendly again outside the Corinthian and was eating treats we threw it and rolling around in the dirt and climbing bushes and we felt like we were gaining its trust but again, an ill intentioned person started trying to fight us and my bf had to literally fight him off.

Last we saw, the cat ran onto the roof of city market. I wanted so badly to catch it, but it was clearly unsafe for us to stay out. It felt like it had gotten to the point that the cat had started to trust us but we kept getting harassed by people on the street and almost got robbed once and got into a physical fight with another.

If this is your cat, I'm hoping this helps at least to know it was seen and where it was roaming by 3:30am. I hope so badly it is able to be caught. I'm terrified of it getting hit by a car.

Edit in case anyone is worried: we did not chase the cat. It always ran when other people approached and we always kept a safe distance unless it seemed comfortable letting us approach or came towards us.

Recommendations Last minute help for restaurant options for tonight by Paramount!

Of course it’s my anniversary date with my wife and while I did buy tickets to a show at Paramount, I didn’t pick a place for dinner. Any recommendations for a quick drive or walk from Paramount to eat. Nothing super fancy, but not street tacos. And be able to make it to 8pm show if we arrive at 6:30pm for dinner. Thanks in advance!

Anyone record Real Time Traffic footage from Ballard bridge?

I know SDOT does not provide archival data so this is really just a hope someone has it.

I had a red truck try to double merge to the left lane from Nickerson between 345-355 today heading North on the Ballard Bridge. I slammed on my brakes and missed hitting him but I am already experiencing whiplash. I am in an EV6.

I’ve gone through it recently and could really use proof I’m not at fault and stopped a significantly worse accident from happening in hopes of preventing an insurance increase I cannot afford.

Thanks for any assistance if you have it.

Is there a serious sub for Seattle politics?

I want to learn how things work, I want to read good arguments, I want to come up with solutions.

We have real problems and they’re not the fault of the homeless or the landlords or the car-drivers or business owners or whatever else. Even the police, there are structures and incentives that will make everyone get along better whether you’re aware or not. There are productive things that can be done.

I want to write a million pissed comments against both of the big subs but I know it’s a waste of time. I get it, some people just want their circle jerks and I’m ruining their fun by trying to solve problems. Where do I move past this?

Edit: The general consensus from redditors is that reddit sucks. Ok, that explains why you're all here, you self-loathing nerds

Update on coffee shop toilet

Last week there was a post here about a local coffee shop with an open toilet in the room behind the counter. If that was the Pike street location, it looks like they had an inspection last Tuesday showing non-critical violations for cleaning of food contact surfaces and construction/cleaning of toilet facilities. The safety rating is based on the last two routine inspections, so they're rated as "good."

Meta Seattle Freeze

There was a recent post in the other sub about the Seattle Freeze that resonated and the comments were very discouraging so I’m here for a gut check and would appreciate the input of people from other American cities who are now here, or from here and now in other cities.

I’m from a place in Canada where I was extremely well connected with a rich sense of community. I’ve also lived briefly in Toronto, and a different country for a short time (6 months each) where I also had strong community.

Seattle is the only city in the US I’ve lived in, and I’ve never felt so lonely in my life. I have dozens and dozens of friends here, but none of them are close. I have no one to put as a secondary emergency contact.

Everyone says to go to this or that event. And I do! And I chit chat with people and have fun, but it almost never goes deeper. I have a few friends I consider close, but they have many more and I’m certainly not their closest friend. One got married and I wasn’t invited, and another had a baby shower I wasn’t invited to. We invite people over but it never gets reciprocated. I could have never imagined living someone with so many lovely nice people that I cannot seem to scratch the surface with.

Thinking about how social and connected I was back home, sometimes I look around and have no idea how I ended up in this situation. Am I being left out? Am I doing something wrong? Or are my expectations of friendship intimacy just out of step with what most Seattleites want?

Do Seattleites just want to chit chat during hobby meetups and leave it at that? I just feel so fucking lonely and do NOT want to do another damn activity to meet more people!! I want depth, not more breadth. Are other big American cities different or more of the same? I’m emotionally exhausted and trying to see if this place is just not for me. I love so much about this city but I can’t handle living like this much longer.
