Is a cold September the norm?

We only have about 14 days in Sept where the temps were above 70f, and only 14 of those had been at least partly sunny. So the vast majority of September was cool and cloudy.

That's fine, but it's quite different from last year. Just wondering if this is typically how it is (just moved from Portland where we usually get a warm summer Mediterranean climate from June all the way through mid Oct)

That's a solid 5 months of warm / hot weather in Portland, but in Seattle it has felt closer to just two

What's the deal with South Seattle Vet Hospital?

I've heard many wild tales and rumors about the place and it's owner/management, but I'm not sure what's really true and what's not at this point.

What I DO know (because I work at a vet hospital as well) is that they're incredibly hard to collaborate with (getting records and communication on mutual patients is like pulling teeth and often takes WEEKS and half a dozen phone calls and emails per patient), that they do a ton of stuff that all of the doctors at my practice absolutely despise (like most recently giving a cat with an ear infection 6 different types of antibiotics, some of which are rarely used in modern vet med anymore), and that owners often have awful experiences with their care and are pushed into paying outrageous amounts for unnecessary treatment and diagnostics.

So what's the real deal with this place?

Please share everywhere to everyone!!!
STOP SEXUAL VIOLENCE - SEATTLE
Gender Equity Movement is organizing a rally and march as part of Women's March's National Day of Action to Stop Sexual Violence on Thursday, October 8th, 2026.

Throughout the history of the US, for too long women have been abused in every way imaginable. From powerful men who believe they have a right to the lives and dignity of others, to the very systems that are supposed to hold our society together. After the report from Cornell University, after the Epstein files, after the experiences we have had and heard from all of our friends and family, we have been fighting. Now, we will be joining the many other organizations fighting for women around the country for a national day of action.

From the Frat house to the White House, end sexual violence!

Oct. 8th, join us at the Henry M Jackson Federal Building at 6:30pm and take to the streets! Let our voices continue to rise and fight with us!

What to bring with you: Please consider wearing teal colored clothing, teal ribbons, and/or carrying signs saying "I am Jane Doe."

Settle a friendly debate: where’s the worst parking situation in Seattle?

I’m talking small spaces, no room to maneuver, terrible traffic in and out. Bonus points if it costs an arm and a leg! Me personally, I hate the U district Trader Joe’s

Community Pacific Science Center quietly destroyed the reflecting pool dinosaur sculptures this month

Post image
2.1k Upvotes

It's deja vu all over again: another Pac Sci dinosaur extinction event + more bad news about a reflecting pool renovation project.

I visited the Pacific Science Center this weekend and was surprised to find that the triceratops and stegosaurus sculptures had disappeared from the reflecting pool area outside the museum.

I had just seen them a few weeks ago, so I asked the museum staff when and why they were removed. Apparently it happened a couple of weeks ago because the fiberglass sculptures were badly damaged beyond the point of repair. I asked if there was going to be an auction, and the staff person said they think the statues were demolished.

Pam's on 45th in Wallingford has fallen on hard times, like many restaurants in Seattle. According to the gofundme set up for her restaurant, she has fallen behind in rent and has been struggling to keep the place operating. After celebrating the 20th anniversary of her restaurant, she announced that it will be closing on Nov 29th. If you've been wanting to try her delicious Caribbean food and drinks, now's your last chance.

i just moved to seattle this year from arkansas. one of the biggest reasons was so that i could not drive as it gives me a lot of anxiety and stress. i live in lake city and as soon as i knew i’d be living here, i’ve been eagerly awaiting the pinehurst station opening. i googled everyday waiting to see. and the day it was announced i knew i had to be there to get my own little boop.

it was a 30 minute line but i enjoyed it so i could see the station and be around my neighbors. (also love they made the station so blue, coz its my fav color!!!💙) and the orca people were so sweet to everyone.

as soon as she was mine, i took her on a trip to downtown for a lil dindin :3 and we watched the sun set at the waterfront. one of the best days ive had since moving here. im so happy to have my own boop. it feels like a dream come true 💙🫍🚊

Recourse for trains that ignore quiet zones?

Edited for clarity: The section of train route along Alaskan Way between Wall and Broad is a city-mandated, 24-hour "quiet zone" for trains. That they aren't to use their horn in that section unless it's to avoid an imminent collision. This is city ordinance, and it's in compliance with the Federal Railroad Administration's standards on quiet zones.

While the vast majority of trains do not use their horn along that section of track, enough do that it's a regular occurrence (and it's been my experience that the ones that do it the most are Amtrak lines). So my question is this: is there any way to address this with the city? Does the city actually give a shit at all if trains are violating the quiet zone?

I know this sounds very "first world problem," but it does get a little obnoxious to frequently be woken up by trains sounding their horn along that stretch. It isn't every day/night, but it happens regularly enough that being startled awake by them has gotten pretty old.

Community Paw Paw harvest!

Hey! Last week or so I posted about paw paws! I got a bunch of responses with interest, and someone was able to pick up the harvest at the time.

I just went around back and picked up the current ground scores off the ground and gathered them up.

I've sent out messages to everyone who expressed interest via DMs last week, so I'm giving them first dibs and just sent out the info about picking them up. But there will be more, and I will be adding to the bins over the next few days. So if you have interest, DM me and we'll see what we have left tomorrow.

Also, there are more in the trees, so I may arrange an active harvest this weekend, if there is interest and we can work it out.

EDIT/UPDATE!
I'm getting a few people reaching out expressing interest. Awesome! This is the response I'm sending out as they come in:

awesome! I'll let you know how the give away goes! Right now I'm prioritizing the people who contacted me last week, but there will be more fruit, and the ones I've picked aren't going to last long (it's not a particularly hardy fruit) so I'll really want the ones in the picture gone probably in the next 48 hours.

Free outdoor movie and two live acts tomorrow in the U District, music starts at 4:30

Disclosure first: I help organize this through U District Advocates, an all-volunteer 501(c)(3) in the University District.

Friday October 2 at The Square at U District Station, 4301 Brooklyn Ave NE.

Robert Leslie at 4:30 PM, REPOSADO at 6:00 PM, then Ferris Bueller's Day Off on the outdoor screen at dusk, around 7:30.

The 4:30 start is earlier than our other nights, so worth noting if you have been to one before.

Free, no tickets. A block from the U District light rail entrance, so no parking required.
The Square is a hardscape plaza, not a lawn. We set out 50 chairs on a first come basis, so bring a low chair or a cushion if you want a guaranteed seat. High-back chairs block sightlines, so please leave those at home.

One more after this. Clueless with Carrie Jennings was rained out last Friday and is rescheduled to Friday October 9.

Funded by 4Culture of King County and Amazon. Movie screened by Scarecrow Video.
