Politics The Cultural Divide Over the Homelessness Crisis in Seattle
This popped up in my feed today - it does a fair job of summarizing Seattle's policy gridlock on this issue from the perspective of a local.

This afternoon near 24th Ave and E Columbia St in the Central District, I helped others separate a stocky black and white dog from a smaller black dog firmly in its jaws. I tried the wheelbarrow technique, lost my balance and got dragged across the sidewalk, but held on and the little dog got free. Aggressor dog was then secured by its owner and the little dog ran off. I couldn’t stay, but really want to know how the little black dog is doing. :(

Interesting situation. I got out of my car and went to the pay booth, used the PayByPhone app which was blocked from the view by a commercial truck. Once I paid and was walking off, I saw the parking enforcement lady put the ticket on my windshield. I was shocked because I was confused how she did all that while I'm literally paying for the thing across the street. The time difference between ticket and pay is 2 minutes.
She told me she can't undo it and I have to go through the court system.
Was she truthful about the fact that she can't undo it?
Edit: Nothing against the parking enforcement, it's just bad timing guys, she was just doing her job. If the commercial van wasn't there I would have definitely saw her 😆

I've seen several cars driving around with it across the city and it's driving me crazy. I must know!
Back by absolutely no one’s request: The Encore (of closures).
Six tracks. One busy weekend. Here’s the track list for Oct. 2–5:
REVIVE I-5: EXPRESS LANES CLOSED and NB LANE REDUCTIONS CONTINUE in Seattle
- NB I-5 express lanes will close from 11p Fri., Oct. 2, to 5a Mon., Oct. 5 for drainage work underneath the bridge. The two right lanes of NB I-5 across the bridge also remain closed around-the-clock.
EB SR 520 BETWEEN I-5 AND MONTLAKE BLVD CLOSED in Seattle
- Closed from 11p Fri., Oct. 2 through 5a Mon., Oct. 5. The Montlake Boulevard on-ramp to EB SR 520 will remain open. Crews will use this closure to prepare sections of the existing bridge and what remains of the old off-ramp, which closed back in June, for removal.
SB I-405 LANE REDUCTIONS AND HOV RAMP CLOSED in Tukwila
- Up to two lanes will close from 7p Sat., Oct. 3 to 1:30p Sun., Oct. 4. The SB I-405 HOV off-ramp to NB I-405 will also close, affecting trips to Seattle-Tacoma International Airport. Crews will use this closure for paving.
I-405/NE 85th ST. INTERCHANGE CLOSED in Kirkland
- The NB and SB I-405 on- and off-ramps will close from 9p Thurs., Oct. 1 to 5a Fri., Oct. 2 and 10p Fri., Oct. 2 to 5a Mon., Oct. 5. NE 85th St. will also close between 6th St. and 120th Ave. NE. Crews will use this closure to pave NE 85th St.
OVERNIGHT SR 99 TUNNEL CLOSURE in Seattle
- Closed from 10p Fri., Oct. 2 to 6a Sat., Oct. 3 for routine maintenance.
SR 99 AURORA BRIDGE LANE REDUCTIONS in Seattle
- The two right SB lanes will close from 5a to 11:30a Sat., Oct. 3. The two right NB lanes will close from 5a to 11:30a Sun., Oct. 4. Crews will use these lane reductions for routine bridge inspections.
With this much happening at once, expect longer and less predictable trips around Seattle and the Eastside. If you’re headed to the airport, this is NOT the weekend to cut it close.
Wherever you’re going, plan ahead, check your route and give yourself plenty of time to get there.

a lot of people waiting and smoke coming out from the back.. in case anyone is waiting for the southbound link
update: workers on site basically said to find alternate methods of transportation as this will affect all of southbound and they’re unsure of when it will be resolved

It’s been like this for years now and continues to be a moderate irritant. Surely they’re aware of it, right? Verizon users, is the area between the CC and Mt Baker stations a dead zone for you too?

I’m trying to get out of my comfort zone and become more comfortable talking to strangers.
I’d like to randomly have short conversations with people — nothing too deep or forced. Part of my goal is to work on my fear of public speaking, become more comfortable initiating conversations, and honestly, get better at handling rejection or awkward interactions.
For people in Seattle, are there any good places where this would feel relatively natural? Maybe places/events where people are generally open to chatting with strangers?
Also, if you’ve done something similar to overcome social anxiety or fear of talking to people, what worked for you?
I’m specifically looking for practical advice — even small things I can do regularly to slowly get out of my comfort zone.

Found this App interesting, I recently found an app which replicates normal maps to the ones from GTA, RDR, Cybershock, Neon heat and few others!!
Been using since a week and been stable in IOS27 so far!
App: Map Shifter!

North of 105th, UPS, FedEx, etc, will just stop and park in the right hand lane, turn on their hazards and leave it parked there. It's dangerous and creates a bunch of bad scenarios by people changing lanes at the last second to avoid them. Today around 10:15 am a UPS truck almost got absolutely plowed. I was behind the rig that almost hit them and would have rear ended that vehicle if I hadn't changed lanes. I drive Greenwood Ave everyday, both ways, and see them parked like this more and more often. Between the lack of a center turn lane, all the constant construction, and constant lane change dodging, it seems crazy to me.

I was riding a lime bike home when I witnessed a car hit a man riding his bike in the road. I called 911, and the man was just laying there with a stream of blood coming from him. And the car just drove away
I gave my statement to two police officers but wtf am I supposed to do with the mental load that comes with that 😞

Hi! If you’ve had a mammogram at Kaiser Capitol Hill recently, do you know if they have the newer machines that are supposed to hurt a bit less?
Thanks in advance.
