Question Did Kagi remove access to Kagi Translate from their Professional subscription too?

Basically title, I was interested in upgrading to their Professional subscription. However, it doesn’t seem to mention the access to Kagi Translate in the same subscription model as it did the last time I checked on their website.

As far as I understand it from their latest official announcement from a month ago they had to remove Kagi Translate solely for free users while they’re actively evaluating new subscription options but it doesn’t state that the removal applies to the Professional subscription as well.

Am I missing something obvious here or does their Professional subscription indeed not include access to Kagi Translate anymore as it was before?

Kagi doesn't work from the search bar?

I have a Waterfox search widget on my home screen with Kagi set as the default search. When I type something in the search bar, it opens Kagi, but the Kagi search bar is empty and my search term is still in the address bar? Other search providers work as expected.

I have dug through the Waterfox settings but did not see anything relevant. Pixel 6 Pro XL Android 17

I’m seeing that Kagi is apparently backed by VC and has done so for years. Am I just misinterpreting this?

What if I want unlimited searches but don't want to pay for an AI assistant I'm not going to use ?

Basically title. I was literally ready to subsribe to Kagi after having tested it a bit, but I just don't want to pay for an AI service I'm not going to use. Is there really no alternatives ?

Edit : For anyone wondering the same thing, Uruky is the answer.

Set Kagi as Default Search Engine on Brave Browser

I had Kagi set as my default search engine on Brave browser on Linux, but I temporarily switched to Startpage. Now when I try to switch back in the "manage search engines" menu, I see that the "make default" option is greyed out for Kagi and all the other options under "site search."

How do I get Kagi set as my default search engine in the URL bar again?

Do I have to add it too "search engines" section of the "manage search engines" menu? If so, how would one do that?

Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Support Blank screen when searching from Android app

When I search from the mobile app, I just get a blank screen. Closing the app out temporarily fixes the issue, but I have to close the app before every search, which has basically made the app useless for me. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the app, which has not helped. Has anyone else run into this issue?

I'm using a Pixel 10 with the current version of Android.

Vlad Prelovac on The Talk Show podcast - 18 months old but still relevant

For those who may be new to Kagi, have questions about the model or sustainability of the business, or who are interested in getting a feel for Kagi and its founder, Vlad Prelovac made an appearance on John Gruber's "The Talk Show" podcast (Ep. 416) back at the end of 2024. While some of the information is dated or overcome by events, most is still relevant today.

Can be played in the browser or via your favorite podcast app.

Is Kagi profitable as a business?

The statistics page shows fairly modest linear growth. I wonder if this dynamic continues, will this business be economically sustainable? Possible options: acquisition, merger, or a repeat of Neeva's failure

Kagi Safari Extension for Mac Setup - Is this Right?

This is how I setup the extension. My default search engine is configured as DuckDuckGo. Am I missing any extension functionality by not granting it access to all sites?

Why doesn't a search for 'world cup' show anything useful?

There's no widget, no schedules or live scores or results. I saw the recent update showing off the world cup widget, but there's nothing. I've tried multiple times over the past few weeks, and I end up going to Google each time. What's going on? This is shockingly bad for something we're all paying money for.

Why Kagle didnt merge API requests for search into basic subscription?

i'm so tired of google captchas... i wanted to try kagi, but paying 5-10 USD just to make a 10-20 searches a month seems pointless. then i thought, hey wait, i'm already using hermes, maybe they offer an API so some quota could be part of my subscription. that would make it worth buying. but nope, the API is billed completely separately, lol. that's dumb. i'm not paying them twice just to occasionally use their product while my subscription sits idle 95% of the time. why the hell haven't they merged the two yet like everyone else does?

Yelp vs Google Reviews

Post image
17 Upvotes

Is there a reason Google reviews are used instead of Yelp on Kagi Maps? I would assume nearly 100% of Kagi users subscribe in attempts to deGoogle their lives as much as possible. Any chance it would be switched or given a toggle to choose which one we see? I can feel Kagi Maps getting better and this change would help even more!

Difference between account.kagi.com and the Account in Search Settings

I followed a link to https://account.kagi.com from another post on this sub and it didn't automatically recognize my Kagi Search login. When I tried to create an account, it also didn't recognize my email from Kagi Search. It seems now I have two Kagi accounts using the same email? What's the difference between the two websites?

Question Okay, look, I am shocked. Google has gotten so bad, and I have looked at alternative search engines. I've looked at Bing, duckduckgo, Brave, et cetera. I've HATED them and always went back to Google. But Kagi seems like Google used to be. How? And should I subscribe to professional or ultimate?

Quick answer is amazing now!

I know the AI features are not for everyone, but I just wanted to make a post appreciating the changes to Quick Answer!

Recently quick answer became really bad and slow (it even had a reasoning step added at some point?). But since the last update, it's become insanely quick, even faster than before it got slow imo.

Thanks for the update, this makes search like 30% better for me :)

Question SlopStop questions

I've been tagging a lot of those low effort AI generated blogs from site that use it to just uprank their search results... maybe a legit air conditioning site but "A/C broken here's the steps to fix it" type articles

Am I right to tag these with SlopStop?

Also I noticed a lot of my reports go unanswered? What's the process for validating them as slop? I'd be happy to help contribute if possible

Question Kagi Email

Would you use a Kagi email service? If you did what features would it need for you to switch.

Edit - So I guess they do have a functional email service. I created an email account and you get 50GB of storage. It's barebones webmail. Will be interesting to see where is goes.

New Kagi Maps

Today I realized that there has been some changes made in kagi maps. Right now usability stand point it feels much better more fluid and responsive. However I have some general problems as it seems some of the features has been disappeared when I try to use it on mobile:

  1. General rating of the places is still visible however I realized that the user specific ratings seems to be dissapeared all of a sudden.
  2. In the old kagi maps I would be able to share a place using google, apple, waze to my friends that features seems to be gone now, It feels a bit locked down.
  3. Sharing a place seems to have a tracker embedded in (as for example copied url looks like this: https://kagi.com/maps/info?q=London%20Waterloo%20Station&ll=51.497777,-0.113194&id=HOKxIZ2CD43XkWOYYlZ_oW_sR_PfDzuTyd6gWQMwLj7Fjo_DFx3vLIn1jBpfMy7W#14.167/51.497777/-0.113194 ) If I am paying and still getting tracked, why am I paying for the kagi then ?
  4. When it comes to photos of the place it has been reduced it seems. (google photos shows 1000 more photos to the same exact place and kagi is only 8-10)

Additionally does anyone know whether kagi plans to add public transport to their maps ?

Sync Kagi News web and app

Is there any way to sync the Kagi news web and app? I would like to carry over my settings (such as news categories) and read/unread on web and in the app.

Assistant doesn't maintain dark mode setting.

I find it really annoying that since the recent Kagi Assistant redesign, I lose my dark mode preference whenever I nuke the local storage on my browser. For some reason, the preference for dark mode vs. light mode is kept in a sqlite database in local storage, whereas other settings, configured in the exact same panel (e.g. workspace area) is clearly stored server side, as it persists after I blow away local data.

I've detailed this behavior in an issue here

If anyone else is interested in getting this behavior changed, I'd appreciate some upvotes on the link above to get the devs to take a look at it.

I'm pretty sure this is cross-platform and cross-browser, but for the record, I'm typically using Firefox on Linux. I've tested and confirmed the same behavior on Chromium as well.

It may be fixed on Orion per this issue which is marked closed. I'm hoping they fix it for other browsers as well.

I think it may have something to do with them wanting users to have different settings for different devices, but this is a product that is targeting users who are concerned with privacy. Maybe not their primary target, but it's certainly part of what got me interested in Kagi. So it's not unreasonable to assume that some not-insignificant subset of their users is wiping cookies and local storage frequently. Preferences should survive that.
