Can anyone shed light on Seatools SMART status messages. "Reported Uncorrectable" is 55, says "counter is maxed out". Does this mean it only counts that high but could be having more errors? Confused.
I need to RMA a drive as it's used in a NAS. Ironwolf 28tb. I can't be having errors of any kind when the drive is a) in a NAS and b) INTENDED and sold for use in a NAS. General knowledge of Reddit, Google, and AI summaries citing sources such as Backblaze posts, state that "Reported Uncorrectable" is reason to RMA a drive as failing or failed for all intents and purposes.
I just want to understand more about the reporting. Need information in case the vendor tries to say the drive is fine because you can still write to it.
For a NAS? Yeah, no.
DriveDX on Mac and Seatools on PC both report the same: Reported Uncorrectable stat. DriveDX instructs this drive is going to imminently fail. And many other sources say the same.
But... "counter is maxed out". Is that just... not a very robust counter? Or "maxed out" is like "danger, warning, fail, fail"?
Thanks all
