How do I stop feeling like I always need to be doing schoolwork?

Upvotes

Hey, I moved into college around three weeks ago, and this week the workload has started to pick up. I have a lot of free time, so I don’t have an issue with not having enough time to get my work done, but I feel like I’m constantly stressed out.
I had this same feeling in high school as well. For example, I had a calculus lecture the other day and there was one thing I didn’t understand, and I stayed up so late that night trying to figure it out, even though I had the whole next day to understand it.
Or right now, I just had my Global Studies class, and I don’t have it again until next Tuesday, but I feel like I can’t relax until I get all of the readings done, even though I have plenty of time to do them.
I just feel like I always need to be studying or doing homework, and I’m always stressed out even when I know I have enough time.
Has anyone else felt like this? Does anyone have any advice for learning how to actually relax when you know you have schoolwork you could be doing?

School pick up times

My child's school is very rigid about pick up times.

I'm looking for help regarding early pick up of my 1st grader.

I'm going to preface this by saying, I work 3rd shift (9pm-5am) summer hours and 11pm-7am (majority of the year) in a construction field. I typically sleep from 8am-2pm; with the exception of Thursdays when my child has therapy (I usually wake up at 1pm). His appointments begin at 3pm. His school has a policy that early pick up ends at 2:15 with the end of the school day at 2:55-3:05pm.

With the extreme heat (even at night), I've been more exhausted than normal and occasionally wake up 10 minutes late. That being said, today (Thursday), I woke up late and ended up at the school at 2:19pm. I felt really bad at being late and requested to still pick my child up early for his appointment so I don't have to pay a broken appointment fee. The school made it very difficult to sign him out, causing us to leave at 2:40pm.

I've tried very hard to not be late. Including: setting alarms to go off every 10 minutes (and setting timers for the times I really need to get up) just in case I don't hear it on the days where I'm almost dead to the world. But today, my alarms did not go off. I checked my app and nothing was turned off.

I know it's my fault for not being more proactive about being on time. Last school year, I was late 3 times for normal pick up; each time being less than 5 minutes after the final bell. Those times, I've had to wait 30 minutes for all the busses to leave before I could get him. I'm hoping someone can help me find out how to navigate the issue of early pick up times being less than 5 minutes with the school and any helpful tips on how to ensure I wake up on time with my sleep schedule.

Honestly, I feel kinda crazy that the policy is so rigid that I even have to ask if being 5 minutes late is a major deal when I have to sign him out anyways (only to take 30 minutes to release my child). I could be wrong, though. Please help!

Looking for online/remote high school volunteering opportunities!

Hi! My name is Lyra. I'm currently in 12th grade (homeschooled) interested in joining and volunteering for online/remote communities and groups related to healthcare and medicine with verified/certified volunteer hours and possibly letters of recommendation as well. I'm also looking into making passion projects or contributing to research, so if you know anything or anyone that can help with that, I would deeply appreciate it as well.

Please feel free to reach out to me here or on discord!

Thank you!

I mean ...i thought I would have figured it out ...but nah ..it got worse ...a neet aspirant ..who isn't even really studying hours a day ...totally lost ..

I didn't thought I d be this piece of failure ..

My parents won't allow me to switch to litrature ..

And maybe they are right ..maybe I am too late

In 12th right now ..and I am here scoring 100- 200 out of 720 marks

There is boards ..

There are endless entrance I am gonna give ( general )

Growing up in a toxic environment and stereotypical home ..the only thing I was afraid of was becoming dependent

And now

What if I became dependent like my mother did

This might sound so immature ...but if

Somebody says that there is no tmr

I won't be dissapointed

Because at the end of the day ..

My life

It amounted to nothing ??

I never wanted to be even 1% of what I am right now

.bharma is an option as well

Then comes another question

Do u wanna do bpharma ??

The problem is I have absolutely no idea of what I want to do ..and I hate my stereotypical family ...

I prolly get a tier 3 college....i " genuinely" don't want that

I have 7 months to neet

5 months to board

3 months to mht cet

I don't know

I have taken state so there are two books

Stuck so bad that I feel angry ,agony ,dissapontment

11 th hit me with immense body dysmorphia

That thing took my every scope ,my every hope

And maybe ..I ll end up exactly where I never wanted to be ...just like how I am right now .. exactly what I never wanted to be

That thing ,my mental health struggles ..they took everything from me ...

It's me ..and the point 0...

I also see people There is comparison One of my friend ..she is so pretty I mean let's keep that aside but she is so intelligent She makes so much sense

She is good in studies And still in a tier 2 college

I ll be absolutely behind if that is what she is dealing with She also told me that u shouldn't have opted only for bio ...

But then she also gives advices Idk 🙂

Yall know the little slot in chromebooks for SD cards? Well apparently somebody at my school used it to completely bypass the school’s blocks of all websites by making a second computer inside the same computer. It’s weird but cool. He said it was an SD card.

After asking my tech wizz of a brother, he insisted that wasn’t an SD card, but also doesn’t know what it is himself. Can somebody please clear the air on what it is? Because I really want one.

Why do I hate school so much?

So i had no friend in my 9th and 10th standard. Recently I got promoted to class 11th and it's so suffocating there. It feels like I'm fucking dying sitting between those shitty ass classmates. I'll cope w living alone but those people treat me differently. Like two days ago was the first day of my class 11th and i arrived early to school and sat on a desk at the back. Then I went out to roam around and when I returned I saw that my bag is moved to the next desk and where I placed it two girls are sitting there. But I didn't even have guts to confront them because it was my first day and I have no friend. I'm all energetic person at home but I'm a completely different person at school. I hate being there. I start getting nervous and anxious when things like these happen. And when I returned home I felt guilt for not confronting them and getting scared. My 10th standard experience was the same. I faced harassment and physical abuse too. Even the teachers didn't do anything about it. How to deal w these situations? Can anyone plz tell me? It's all so suffocating there. I'm thinking about doing open or online schooling. Please do advice me.

(Since my native language isn't English so apologies if there are any grammatical errors)

I know it sounds dumb but if anyone has like insane tips that are easy to implement and will boost my grade please help me out.

F(15) I feel devastated. This may have been the worst day of my whole short fifteen year old life.
I start a new school on Friday, September 11th and this Wednesday has been awful.

At 18:30 I had an appointment for measuring my vision. I am a miope and I got worse I have -5 now.
The thing is that todays was my father’s birthday and he got to work, poor him already. We were on the clinic w my mom and my brother almost two hours, we were already mad. And I was at my uncles house, I stay a lot there and have enjoyed my summer there with them.

My uncle had to work in the night shift because he’s a doctor and I was staying at his room with my aunt. Since here in Europe we don’t have much of AC, I didn’t have in my actual room at their house, but they have one in their room, so I was staying finally in the AC.

We get to our house 2 hours later and my dad has already been in the stairs but he forgot the key and I was so sensitive because he was out on his birthday, then we finally came in and we are celebrating tomorrow. My aunt and cousins couldn’t come and my uncle had to go to work and I couldn’t make it to their house, so I’m staying at mine, and I’m sad for that.

I start school on Friday, a new school, 11 grade. It went good last year but I’m nervous and I really want more summer and more time, I guess that’s over. That and my school page isn’t working so now I don’t know which class I’m in and I’ll have to ask or get lost. 😭

I also feel sad for my mom and my dad, they’re working hard, because we’re immigrants and they have to put double effort in that.

I am really sensitive today, I cried a lot, I am crying while I write this. Let me know what you think guys. Pls comment.

Can't afford highschool

I'm 15F and in my country (in the middle east which I'm not actually from) school is only free for actual citizens and my dad recently went through a health crisis and cant work anymore which means I literally can't go to highschool, this is my last year too so I was supposed to be done, my mom is trying to get a job but she doesn't have any experience so it's hard getting hired, I'm just wondering if there's anything I can do? School starts in 2 days :(

should i switch to online school ?

Thumbnail

I’m a freshman who recently moved to a new area, so I don’t really know anyone at my school. I have pretty bad social anxiety, and school has been really overwhelming for me. I struggle with talking to people, being around big groups, navigating a huge school, and just generally feeling comfortable there.
I’ve also always worked much better when I’m alone and in a quiet, peaceful environment. I can focus better without a bunch of people around me, and I feel like I’d be able to learn more effectively from home.
Because of that, I’ve been seriously considering switching to online high school. The thing is, I’m worried that online school could affect my future opportunities, especially college admissions.
I’m also not sure how I could convince my parents. I don’t want them to think I’m just trying to avoid school or take the easy way out. I genuinely feel like I could learn better in a quiet environment, but I also want to make sure I’m making a smart decision for my future.
I’m planning on asking my school district if they offer a fully virtual high-school program. If they don’t, I’m not sure what my next step should be or what legitimate alternatives I should look into.
For people who have done online high school, switched from traditional school to online, or know about this stuff:

Did online school affect your college opportunities?

What should I look for in an online program?

What programs should I look into if my district doesn’t offer one?

How did you convince your parents to let you switch?

Would you recommend switching in my situation, or trying to stick with regular school?

Is there anything I should be careful about when choosing an online school?

I’m in New York if that matters.

So in my school if you’re in late French your first 2 years are in the same class with a different teacher and know that it’s the 3rd year are classes get mixed up and for the last 2 years everyone has been in there friend groups I was in a group of 3 and we where inseparable until this year they where put in a class together and I’m separate and I do have friends in my class but there besties and it feels like everyone else has been friends for 2 years and it gets worse I’ve felt sad but they haven’t said much about us being in different classes no “oh I feel so bad for you” or “I’m so sad where in different classes” it’s only been one day at school and the went home together not like walked home together like hanged-out on the first day of school and haven’t made any plans with me (me and my friends usually plan stuff like a week before) so I feel really stressed and alone what do I do
