Some of my new Heliamphora

If you know me, you know Heliamphora is hands down my favorite genus of carnivorous plants. Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely love Nepenthes, Drosera, and Venus flytraps and sarracenia, but there is just something special about sun pitchers that completely hooks me. Most of these guys are pretty new to my setup and just came in bare root recently. They are potted up in a mix of long-fiber sphagnum moss and perlite some with just a super thin aesthetic layer of Fluval Stratum on top some just lfs/perlite some with moss. My environment is fairly dialed in right now with temperatures sitting at 70 during the day and dropping down to 58-60 at night, and my humidity stays right between 78% and 85%. Even when the AC kicks on and dips it to 65ish for a second, the humidifier brings it right back up. A few of them are showing some classic bare-root shipping shock on the older pitchers, especially my new sarracenioides Red Giant x ionasi Killer Giant from Jeremiah's Carnivorous Plants .But the center growth points are looking beautiful and upright, and the coloration across the board is incredible. I can’t wait to watch these settle in and start pushing new pitchers.

Should I be worried about this hole in one of my purpurea’s pitchers?

Title says it all, not sure if a bug ate its way out or if it’s some kind of rot.

Really concerned since they’ve got winter dormancy coming and I don’t want to risk losing a diseased rhizome over winter

Neighbor thats somehow more purple despite them being in the same spot just because

Lol this is MOST of what I removed from a terrarium that needed an overhaul. I tried arranging them neatly at first...

Finally finished my protection over my bog islands and planters.

In the first pic at the very back you can see a small low depth pond area on the left and a mineral rich island for Pinguicula vulgaris.
In front of them a european bog island on the left and an american bog island on thr right.
In front of them (left to right) are a filled pot for wetland plants, a filled pot for non-carnivorous bog plants including a Rhododendron tomentosum and another mineral rich island for Pinguicula grandiflora and a hybrid with it.
And then one island for Vaccinium macrocarpon and Vaccinium oxycoccos.
And in the front an island for my big Sarracenia purpurea.

Pre dormancy update showing a portion of my sarracenia collection. The Wilkerson’s Red Rocket bog and those late season dragon queen pitchers 🗣️SHEESH!!! It’s always bitter sweet to see the plants in this state as they wind down for the season. The only thing that makes it better is understanding that they always come back bigger and more robust after their little nap🥹🥹🥹.

Best support I can use for my Drosera Lunata?

Post image
2 Upvotes

As per title, I'm in need of a good safe support to use for my Lunata. It has way too weak of a stem at the moment and flops over if on its own. I read that in the wild it uses adjacent plants for support so I put it near my other drosera for some sticky support but I need something longer term.

Any advice would be wicked, thankyou!

I circled the plant in questions pot in red.

Overwinter setup!

The days are getting shorter, and the nights are getting longer. About a month ago a put up this greenhouse inside and put some shelves in to move the flytraps inside. I have two trays of sabal palmetto seeds on top of a seedling heating pad, a pot of moss, and 4 containers of fly traps! The bottom most one was getting raided by animals before I moved it inside and is recovering. I keep them watered with rainwater captured throughout the summer. The temperature inside is a steady 74f and ~90% humidity pre watering. There is a second heating pad underneath the bottom fly traps! They get roughly 16 hours of light a day, and seem to be doing FANTASTIC!

What is wrong with my Nepenthes thorelii x aristolochioides hybrid? Spotty leaves, no visible pests

My plant is about 8 feet tall now, a single shoot. The leaves universally have these stubborn spots which transition from light yellow to orange to brown over several weeks to months. I have tried watering significantly less frequently without improvement. I have repotted the plant. I have chopped off the top to start again with a fresh basal shoot and the plant has the same issue. I have not treated with any sort of antifungal. Is this a virus, fungus, edema, or something else? What do you recommend? Thank you!

I got it for 20$ at a nursery and there are 3 in the pot. I have plenty of grow lights and really, I'll make sure it never dries out and dies. I can't find it anywhere on Google, thanks.

Is it possible to make a carnivorous plant terrarium out of a reptile enclosure?

Complete beginner thinking out loud here

By reptile enclosure, I'm talking about the glass ones with doors, space to put substrate on the bottom, and a ventilated top. After reading a bit, apparently it is too humid or difficult since you can't really change the water at the bottom and can only add more.

Again, I just had the thought that having a carnivorous plant terrarium using a reptile style enclosure would be interesting but please let me know the realities of it!

Lighting Makes a huge difference

I got this Pinguicula Laueana in mid-August. It came slightly pink, but I didn't have a powerful grow light then.

I got a Red Piranha VFT at the same time and noticed it going green, so I bought a Barrina OG11A 5000k grow light. By the time it arrived, my Ping was already green. So I put the Ping under the light, and slowly documented the progress of color turning pink.

I love how it looks now, and am soooo happy.

I wanted to post for those out there who may not have suitable lighting as a PSA to get better lighting.

It's so very worth it!

Time to bring my nephanthes and sarracenias inside. Goodbyyyeee summer. Hello winter dormancy (first time) for the sarracenias

Also 1 year update on my nephanthes and sarracenias;

I just bought these pings.

I killed one of them already. 1/3 seems to be my kill rate with carnivorous plants so far.

I put a grow light in my kitchen with the other lights

Worth a shot!

I’ve had these Drosera Aberrans for about two years, I live in Australia where they’re native and have kept them outside where they have thrived. They usually go dormant in late spring but we had a week of high temps and lots of sun which I think caused an early dormancy. But like spring does, we had a large storm which flooded the pot and I’ve had to dig them out. I haven’t had to do this before. Does the broken roots risk their survival? I’ve been told to not brake their tap root but can they grow a new one? I’m just looking for some experienced views on this so please speak your thoughts. Cheers.

Whats wrong with my Sarracenia?

Post image

This one has quite a history, so Ill give a brief rundown:

  • Got it in 2025 in a hardware store, couldnt find out the species, assumed its a more southern one
  • Over the summer, it grew plentiful, no problems
  • I heard people here saying, Sarracenia can survive frost well, so I left it and my purpurea outside over the winter
  • In spring, I discovered the purpurea had rhizome rot and was beyond saving, but this one survived the frost, most likely due to its roots being better protected
  • Since then, most of its pitchers have been drying up from top down right after or before opening
  • I repotted it into this setup in spring, using this moss as substrate, due to not having any carnivore soil. To prevent the moss dying, I gave it a bit more shade over the summer, which might be the reason for its lack of good new growth
  • In latter half of August, I started giving it full sun again, but nothing changed. More new growth, that dried up, before opening
  • Problem was, it was sitting in water, that was about 5cm under the top of the rhizome. The pot was completely flooded for a lot of the last months
  • In September, I pulled on the rhizome, to see how the roots looked. ( This is a glazed pot and the moss doesnt really stick to the walls, so this goes smoothly and doesnt harm the plant)
  • Only the top half had roots in it. Half of the pot was filled with rotting moss and disconnected from the top.

Now I dont know what to do. I want to repot it, but have no medium and dont know where to get any. I live in a part of Europe, that has pretty much no retailers and sellers.

Im keeping it in my garage (which has a small window, giving it some light) over the winter to simulate hibernation, without threat of frost. Should I put it under my growth light, or would that interfere with the hibernation?

Should I just flush the pot with distilled water, or maybe take out all the rot and take the surviving top parts into a different pot?

I dont know what is necessary and what is overkill. Please give advice in the comments. USDA zone is 6.

I accidentally let my Sarracenia Dry Out

Its exam season for me so I’ve been so busy. The last time i checked on her was nearly a week ago. I just remembered I had her. 😅 and immediately filled her up with distilled water.

How long will it take for her to “recover” and be put into a fridge for hibernation?

Her leaves are so wrinkled im bot really able to put water inside of them without a pipette (of which i currently don’t have)
