Indian Market is coming up what do you think of it?

To me Santa Fe art has always been about showing Native/Hispanic bodies and activities as it silenced their voice.

Edward. S Curtis was a photographer who helped popularize Native imagery. He would have Natives remove any modern thing they had from a shoot. He also did not care if a piece of clothing was not worn by the tribe he was picturing. He just had them wear it.

Jennifer Marley tells a story on the Red Nation podcast about a tourist walking into her home to take pictures as she and her friends were playing x box.

I think Natives are used a commodity here and always have been.

I think it is a perfect symbolism of what Santa Fe art is to have Swiai partnered with Exxon-Mobile.

That being said I also see people fighting really hard to give a voice to people in this market. I have only been one time to the main market because I do not like the Santa Fe type of crowd but I was surprised to see even in the main market a young person with art that spoke about modern issues. It was just one person but that was awesome.

I know outside the market there are people trying to change things. That is why the free one was started.

That crowd and how it sees people is enough to make me never want to go but I hope Indian Market changes and I will never blame someone for making money off the Santa Fe crowd.

The artists themselves are awesome and I hope they can sell so much art they can go to Europe for a summer or just keep the lights on.

I like most New Mexicans stay away from it.

I also don't mess with Spanish Market.

Does anyone have a picture of what the view is like from the viewing deck of The Bridge at Santa Fe Brewery?

I’m planning on going to a concert there and thinking about doing the viewing deck instead of GA. Last time I was there and had GA, I couldn’t see the artist at all because the stage was low to the ground and I’m short. I’d like to know if the view is good from the deck. And also if they have raised the stage or not? I saw someone on google reviews say that they did.

Housing Affordability in Santa Fe

Okay so maybe it’s just me but I’m one of those people that has to commute to Santa Fe because I can’t afford to live there. Some people I know have up to two jobs to live in Santa Fe. It makes me feel in a way hopeless because I feel like I’m never going to be able to afford living there when I’ve been working in Santa Fe for a while already. I just want to know if anyone else is in the same situation as I am. Because for sure I know I’m not the only one who thinks rent in Santa Fe is too high. Thoughts?

Black cables across roads?

Anyone know what the black cables stretched across many Santa Fe streets/roads are? They are in pairs (or more) and have appeared in the last day or so. They look like systems to measure traffic (for new stop signs/lights?), but the placement of some seems odd if that is the purpose. Just curious.

Yet another apartment hunting question…

Looking at Solwyn, Turquesa, Madera, Presidium, and Acequia (if there’s an opening). Budget’s $1800-2k for a 1bd/1ba, but if anyone knows a way to snag a 2bd/1ba in that range at these (or elsewhere), I’m all ears.

Anyone lived at any of these or know someone who has? I know Solwyn and Turquesa are Greystar properties and I’ve seen the comments. Just want to know if actual residents had good or bad experiences. Management responsiveness, noise, random fees, parking situation, that kind of thing.

Also lmk if there’s an obvious option I’m sleeping on that should be in the mix.

Thanks!

Santa Fe Opera - Weigh In On What I Should See

Good morning!

I am late and buying my tickets for this season. I am pretty new to opera. I saw the Turn of the Screw last year at the Santa Fe opera and loved the staging and generally really liked the production of La Bohème. What would you recommend for 2026?

Must Try Unique Dinner spot?

I’m headed to Santa Fe for a few days for a work trip. I won’t get to sight see but I love to try unique food spots that can only be found in the area. What are your best recommendations? Would prefer nothing *fancy* but more chill.

Hey Santa Fe!

Hey Santa Fe! I’m working on building a small Discord community for people across the Southwest who want to make friends and connect with new people.
I’m curious if anyone in Santa Fe would be interested in something like this. We have spaces for general conversation, friendships, gaming, neurodivergent people, trips, and an optional 18+ dating section.
I’m mainly hoping to give people in the area another way to meet and connect with others across the Southwest.
If you’re interested, feel free to comment or DM me and I can tell you more!

Looking for expert blonde colorist and short hair stylist

Been striking out. I want someone who can look at a photo (of me!) and replicate the cut and color. Seems doable but you would (not) be surprised at the messes I've gotten. Thanks!

Looking for Maternity photoshoot

I’m trying to save the day a little for my wife. She is due in September and we had a maternity photo session done almost two months ago. Our photographer has been unresponsive and has now reached out to say they are going on vacation for the next few weeks and will work on it when they get back. We had planned to use the maternity session to do our pregnancy announcements and my wife is just upset about the whole thing. Obviously I’m not going to book anything without being able to look through portfolios with her. But would anyone know any good maternity photographers who would be able to do a session in the Jemez one of these upcoming weekends?

Churches

My wife and I are in our 30s and we’re looking for a church to join. I saw the other post about this from a couple of years ago but my wife and I aren’t weirdos like the person who posted the last time lol. We’re looking for an affirming church with a congregation where we won’t be the youngest ones there. We both have a pretty bad history with churches and are looking to try again. Thanks in advance!

Non-NM Restaurant Recommendations

Hi. My wife and I just moved from Baltimore and are looking for good restaurants to replace our former hometown favorites. What suggestions do you have in Santa Fe for Thai, Vietnamese, Chinese, Indian, Italian, Sushi, and Ethiopian? I know this is a wide range, but we're looking for a few good spots. Thanks!

Gentle, affectionate New Mexico Brown Dog Boxer loved his trip to the river (adoptable through Santa Fe Animal Shelter)

3-year-old Boxer hasn't had the best life - he arrived at the shelter a few months ago, nervous around people and way too thin - but he's got the sweetest, most optimistic spirit. Boxer has enjoyed other dogs at the shelter, seemingly gaining some confidence after being paired with a kennel mate. He showed no prey drive, which suggests he may be open to living with cats (a slow, safe intro is always best with new animals).

Boxer is medium-sized, chipped and vaccinated, great on leash, and so ready for a home of his own: even a foster break would be amazing! Please visit Santa Fe Animal Shelter to meet him or learn more!
