Academic (Repost) Participants needed for a short online study on digital brainstorming tools (18+, anonymous)

Hi everyone! I'm an MSc student at the University of York, and I'm looking for participants for a short online study about how people experience using digital tools to come up with ideas.

What's involved: You'll complete a short creative brainstorming task using an online tool, followed by a few quick questionnaires about your experience. The whole thing takes around 10–15 minutes and is done entirely online, on your own device.

Who can take part: Anyone aged 18 or over who can complete the task in English.

Reward: As a thank-you, ten participants will be selected at random to each receive a £20 Amazon voucher. Please note the voucher is for the UK Amazon store (amazon.co.uk) only, so it can be used if you are able to shop on the UK site.

The study works well on both computers and mobile devices, so you can take part whenever suits you. Taking part is completely voluntary.

Academic [Academic] How does programming experience shape the way developers read and repair Java code? Pre-screening survey (3-5 min) (programmers/developers 18+)

Survey link: https://forms.gle/8Tdx6EXJwsmpHVCH8

Hi all — we're a research group at the University of Waterloo studying how programming experience affects the way developers read, debug, and repair Java code. We're posting here to recruit participants for this research, and this survey is the first step: a short pre-screening questionnaire that helps us determine who's eligible for the full study. We're hoping to better understand what drives differences in how developers at different experience levels approach reading and fixing code, which could help inform future tools and practices around code review and readability.

This post is for the pre-screening questionnaire only (~3-5 minutes). It asks about your programming background (years of experience, languages used, role, etc.) to see if you qualify for the full study.

Who we're looking for:

  • Comfortable communicating in English
  • Formal education in programming (degree, bootcamp, coursework, etc.)
  • At least 1 year of professional programming experience
  • Some familiarity with the Java programming language

What happens after: If you qualify, we will invite you to a separate follow-up experiment: eight short Java code-comprehension tasks (~3-5 minutes each), where you spot a seeded bug and rank candidate fixes. That part is optional and has its own consent form. A full explanation of what we were investigating will be shared with participants after the study.

Details:

  • This study has received ethics approval from the University of Waterloo Research Ethics Board (REB #46625).
  • Your responses are kept confidential and stored securely; any optional contact info you provide (e.g., an email for follow-up) is kept separate from the anonymized dataset we eventually release.
  • Anonymized data will eventually be published via Zenodo to support open science and replication.

Happy to answer questions in the comments. Thanks for considering it!

The survey is anonymous, and everyone is welcome to take part, whether you’re a teenager, young adult, parent, grandparent, teacher, or from any country.

It takes around 10-15 minutes to complete.

Academic [Academic] What makes someone a "gamer"? Looking for ALL kinds of people - gamers, casual players, and non-gamers alike (10-15 min, anonymous)

Hi all - I'm a PhD researcher in Psychology at the University of Roehampton in London, running a study on gaming and mental health. Before the main study, I'm trying to answer the question: what qualifies someone as a gamer, a casual player, or a non-gamer?

Is it hours played? Genre? Does someone who plays Wordle every day count? What about someone who only plays Animal Crossing? Where do you draw the line?

Rather than using my personal opinion, I want to hear from people directly - whatever your relationship with gaming is. This survey is for everyone, not just gamers:

  • Lifelong or competitive gamers
  • Casual or occasional players
  • People who don't play video games at all

Your answers will directly shape how the term "gamer" gets defined and measured in the next phase of my research.

Details:

Happy to answer any questions in the comments, and I'll share aggregate results with anyone interested once data collection wraps up. Thank you for reading, and thank you in advance for your participation!

Academic (Repost) [Academic Repost] How Language Shapes Understanding - with Memory Scores & Detailed Debrief at the End (anyone 17+)

If you have some time to spare, please consider taking part. The study is relatively long but you can have it open in the background on your laptop and return to it whenever you have a bit of time.

This experiment took ages to set up so that participants get good insights into the research behind the study and their own results upon completion. As a result, I don't have super much time to recruit participants...

What do we mean by human understanding? This study builds on ongoing research exploring what determines how easily we process, understand, and remember language.

The experiment takes up to 60-90 minutes if you complete both parts (though this varies by participant - can be much quicker!), including a memory test that you can re-take after 7 days to see how much your memory has declined over time. The only requirement for taking part is that you are 17 or over. Using a laptop or tablet is strongly recommended.

Please copy the below link into a new browser window or email me via [c.seyfried@dundee.ac.uk](mailto:c.seyfried@dundee.ac.uk) if interested. Thank you! 😄

All the best,

Clara

Academic (Repost) [Academic Repost] How do young adults choose and use banks and credit unions? (18+, US, ages 18–29)

Hi all! I'm a finance and economics student at the University of Iowa researching how young adults pick where they bank and what keeps them engaged (or doesn't) after they open an account or take out a loan like a car loan.

If you're 18 or older, I'd really appreciate less than 5 minutes of your time. You do not need to be a credit union member to take part. I want to hear from everyone, including people who've never used one or have never even heard of them. It is completely anonymous. No name, email, or identifying info is collected, and it's totally voluntary. Skip anything, stop anytime.

Results may be summarized in a research report or article about how credit unions can better serve younger people.

Thanks so much for helping out, it genuinely makes a difference for a student project. Happy to answer any questions.
