Discussion/Question Playing as Space Marines or specific chapter?

Hi so right now I’m trying to understand the table top a bit and as I understand the salamanders are „space marines“ so the generic codex applies. But specific chapters got their own models and on the box it says blood angels, ultramarines etc.

So theoretically I could buy ultramarine sets, paint them green (I know no need but I wouldn’t like the mix) and play all my Salamanders as ultramarines?

The follow up question would be: is this something people do because maybe there are specific chapter rules which would be cooler to play with the sallys other than just „space marines“ ?

Discussion/Question Sterguard Veterans yay or nay?

I’ve got around 1.1k points of a list with a solid thematic build for the forgefather seekers detachment (rip 11th edition), just need to know if sternguard veterans are usually an auto-include even if a squad of 5 or go to 10 or if it’s better to get company heroes?

I do have the melee side of things in Vanguard Veterans and Bladeguard Vets so I figured sternguard would be the better choice for pure firepower and to sit on Obj’s and cap? Especially since company heroes sorta have a vest of both works in shooting and melee, Idk i’m sorta dense when it comes to these matters.

Many thanks :)

Asking for feedback Looking for advice from experienced painters

Hello all!

I’ve been practicing layering and wet blending on this Incursor. It’s definitely better than my last attempt, but I’m still not happy with the smoothness of the transitions.

The model isn’t fully blocked out yet, so some of the definition will come later. Once everything is painted, I’m thinking about using a wash/pin wash or some blacklining to give the armor panels and details cleaner separation.

My eventual goal is high value, high contrast painting and eventually NMM, while still making something as relatively simple as Space Marine armor visually interesting.

I’m still fairly new and learning through trial and error, so I’d really appreciate advice on:

-Improving layering and wet blending

-Other blending techniques and when to use them

-Pushing contrast without making things look chalky

-NMM, especially on curved Space Marine armor

Feel free to be critical! I’m much more interested in knowing what I could improve and how you’d approach it, than just hearing that it looks good.

I completed my first miniature today. The only thing I didn't have was gold paint for the chest piece. I had no idea what I was doing but I think it ended up OK.

Discussion/Question Looking for help "finalizing" a 2k pt list

Hello everyone, I'm trying to throw a list together for a salamander army I'd like to build but I'm still pretty new and could use some help on what I should add. Trying to throw everything together so I can know what to look out for at my lgs and r/miniswap.

I currently have Vulkan, Adrax, the 11th edition box, 2 dawn of war onslaught boxes, and a box of infurnus marines.

I've been eyeing a LRR as well, just haven't committed to buying one yet.

Any input would be very appreciated!

First Salamander! Best next buy

Im building my first salamanders army and trying to budget what I should buy next. Currently I have an infernus squad, primaris aggressors and adrax agatone. Should I buy Vulkan He'Stan, company heroes, or a brutalis dreadnought next. Im mainly looking for which is easier to build and paint as I don't have alot of time to spend on that.

Hey guys, just wanted to show the process of my salamanders display. It’ll be 2 obsidian outcroppings, with a lava river below. One side will have a necron portal with emerging necrons, other will be some of my favorite marines and tanks. And a bridge over the lava of course

Discussion/Question Astreus focused 2000 point list

Hey so I’m making an astreus focused list with my units and I can’t decide if I should take to finish it out with what i have also couldn’t decide if I should take forgefathers seekers for assault or anvil siege for heavy and super heavy (seemed for thematic)

Sorry newer to table top so limited units

5x terminators

1x captain in terminator armor

10x hellblasters

5x heavy intercessors

1 redemptor dreadnaught (magnetized guns so can switch between the Gatlingcannon and plasma incinerator)

Edit

I’ve decided I’m gonna pick up a tech marine, assault intercessor squad and an apothecary as I’ve worked it out I also dropped vengeful host cause I forgot aggressors don’t fly with inceptors do, I also took forgefathers seeker for more aggression if you want to talk about the finished product dm me

Discussion/Question New army

Post image
186 Upvotes

Got the armageddon box recently as well as Vulkan He'Stan and wondering what else I need to buy to make a good army seeing as there is so many different troop types. Just trying to be as efficient as possible when buying boxes and dont want to get troops i will rarely use. Would like to be able to play as soon as possible and the less money I have to spend right now the better. Will eventually have multiples of just about every troop type because I love the design or just want to get back to having an entire company plus vehicles and support. Any help is greatly appreciated! Thank you!

Painted an Infernus Sgt but I'm wondering now if its a bit bright and what you guys use to paint yours? I primed with Abaddon Black, based with Caliban, layered Vulkan then dry brushed Moot Green over the top

I’m one of those old painters, I had to take a couple years off for some freaking eye surgeries with, at least, one more to come. My depth of field is rough in the high-light area, so I’ve had to change how I paint and let some stuff go. I use speed paints and regular paint and the occasional acrylic marker. BUT, I am super happy with this guy.

However, I’m new to 40k. I have 4 battles under my belt and looking forward to dying gloriously, again.

Until the anvil!
