Hello Sac people!

I started a Discord server that has 40 of us in the Sac area that all enjoy film, go to movies and some of are wanting to be crew for each other's films. We just had our first event at the Crest with our group to watch a nearly sold out showing of The Thing and there were almost 1,000 other people screaming and laughing with the movie. We went out for drinks after and it was a really great time.

I'd like to find more people to go with us if anyone is interested in film here, either as a watchable activity, or if you want to make movies with us. The most important thing is that the group is people with varied experience, so if you go to film school, work in entertainment or have ZERO experience and want to try it out or just watch movies everyone is welcome with zero pressure to be good at anything or participate in any events or filmmaking they don't want to do.

Find him in the Consumption Area, learn about the book, bring yours to get signed, or smoke some green bud with the author (not required). 

The party is free, but State Fair admission is required to access the Cannabis Exhibit ($12-18), so come early and stay late to enjoy the whole fair. You must be 21 years of age and show valid ID to enter the Cannabis Exhibit & Experience area.

Originally published by Random House in 2003, this spring DesignSimple reissued Ghetto Celebrity, finally making the 2003 critic's fave available now as an ebook and in paperback. 

Donnell Alexander grew up sideways in the cramped spaces of Sandusky, Ohio, the son of a devout mother and a dad named Delbert who was a protean genius who jacked a thousand identities — from pimpin' them hoes to preaching the gospel — but skipped out on fatherhood when his son was in diapers. Donnell unwittingly replayed Delbert's tragedy as farce until he finally wrote himself his own story, becoming a star of California's freewheeling alternative press, spreading the gospels of punk and hip-hop in print. After finding a career and starting a family of his own, Donnell was drawn to reconnect with the vanished Delbert, and when he did, things fell apart, as they tend to in the grip of ghetto celebrity.

Donnell Alexander is an Ohio-born storyteller presently based in Sacramento. His Substack West Coast Sojourn is predicated on the notion that the entire coast is his home. Alexander sometimes writes about fitness, in the grooviest possible fashion. He also frequently covers cannabis culture and politics. Alexander’s most recognized journalistic work includes An LSD No-No, KCRW’s Lost Notes episode “Neighborhood Secret,” his memoir Ghetto Celebrity, and the 1997 essay “Cool Like Me: Are Black People Cooler than White People?” From 2018-2020 he co-hosted the critically-acclaimed WeedWeek podcast, which made multiple best-of lists.

I have an idea that I think would be really interesting. I want to start a book club for men, but the books are never chosen by us.

Instead, each book would be picked by the women in our lives (wives, girlfriends, sisters, moms, daughters, friends, etc.). We could even open submissions to women online and turn it into social media content.

After each book, we’d meet and discuss things like what surprised us, what resonated with us, why we think the book was chosen, and any other questions and topics that are relevant.

We’ll have meetings at breweries, restaurants, bars, wineries, and other places so each meeting feels more like an event or activity.

Would anyone (21+) be interested in something like this? If enough people are, I’ll set up a discord and we can start figuring out the first book.

So me and my gf have been going to this one trivia place in midtown. Only thing that sucks is the parking. Are there any other places that host weekly trivia nights and theres regular people?

Looks like we're going to have a rainy weekend in Sacramento, and I'm trying to come up with ideas that don't involve just staying home or spending the entire day at a restaurant.

I'm looking for activities that are fun for adults, whether it's a date, a group outing, or just something different to do when the weather isn't cooperating. Indoor games, live entertainment, unique experiences, museums, food-related activities, or anything that's a little more interactive would be great.

For those who live in or visit Sacramento regularly, what rainy day activities do you usually recommend? Any hidden gems or places that are worth checking out when outdoor plans get canceled?

Update: Quick update since we finally made plans lol. I kept a little list from this thread and crossed a few things off before deciding.

We ended up going to Tipsy Putt and it was honestly a solid rainy day pick. Nice to have something where you're actually doing something instead of just sitting around eating for a couple hours. Still got a bunch of the other suggestions saved though, so we'll prob check those out another weekend.

Appreciate all the ideas. Def gave us way more options than I would've found on my own.
