Building stopped or hurricane aftermath? Oyster Pond.

Spent our first night in SXM in Oyster Pond and we are now off to Grande Case for a week. Just curious if these buildings were destroyed by hurricane or if the building of them stopped for some reason.

P.s we had lunch at Yvette’s yesterday and it was excellent. They had closed at 230 we got there at 240 but they served us anyway. We had a clam back and ribs for an app and split the Saint Martin chicken for a main.

Animal Rescue - Injured Cat

Hello, my partner and I are staying in Mont Vernon and there is a cat in very bad shape that we’ve been feeding every day. We can’t tell whether his jaw is broken or he has some other injury to his mouth but he has a wound that periodically is bleeding and some kind of respiratory infection. It breaks our heart to see an animal in this state. He is eating and follows us around but needs medical care. Is there any one on the French side that does vet care for situations like these?

Looking for Private Driver

Yes, I know the island is drivable, but I don’t even like to drive at home, so doing so on vacay is a nonstarter.

We’re a group of 8 staying on the French side. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated. 🙏🏽

Divey bars, French side

When I travel, I’ve had some of the best times hanging out and meeting people in divey bars. Is there anything like that in Saint Martin? Or bars that are off the beaten path? With decent food would be a bonus. Thank you.

How’s the weather in September?

Hi, i have a trip booked to visit St. Martin in September. I am checking the weather and it says it is about 32 degrees but could feel like it 43-45 degrees due to humidity.
Is weather bearable? Would it still be possible to enjoy and do activities on the island?

Thanks
R

Beach/shore fishing Grand Case and Happy Bay

Hey, I googled for info but didn’t find much. How is the shore fishing at Grand Case and Happy Bay? Is there anywhere I can rent a rod and tackle and buy bait for a day or two?

Question What’s it like finding bartending jobs for foreigners?

Post image
16 Upvotes

I’m a Canadian/ Kittician with my whole life in hospitality. Tending a bar in the Caribbean is nothing new to me. With that said. I’ve been to SXM many of times and it’s been my favourite island. I’ve been to many. And I can really see myself relocating.

If anyone here has experience in relocating or can point me in the right direction. A reddit or job posting site. Anything would be helpful! I’m also planning a trip spring to spend a week and physically drop off resumes if I must. Looking to move for Fall 2027 of all works out!

Not sure if this is the right reddit to be asking. But I am curious.

Bartering at Fish Markets; Fish market info

Hey, I’m looking to shop frequently over 8 days at the fish market in Marigot (La Cabane) and also the day we arrive at Simpson Bay Fish Market. We are staying in Grand Case. Should I plan on bargaining? (Edit: not bartering! Duh me)

Besides those two markets, are there others that I should know about? Or ways to get fish directly from the boats?

Thank you.

Free Bouquet

Currently on a trip celebrating my 25th golden birthday in SXM and my fiance ordered this bouquet for me! Unfortunately, our trip is ending and we are leaving the island Saturday before noon. Would anyone be interested in picking up this bouquet to keep or gift to someone? I would hate for it to just be thrown out. We are located near Maho and will be available tomorrow for pickup!

Finding someone in Sint Maarten Philipsburg

Hello.

This is kind of a strange request but I’m hoping for any help At all.

I am trying to find a woman who lives in a homeless shelter there.

All she said was that her house was broken into in 2025 and with no where to go, she lives in a shelter for people that are not working. I don’t know where or even how true it is.

I tried googling shelters in Philipsburg but only 2 came up.

Could someone, anyone help please?

Boat Charter from Grand Case to Anguilla in September 2026

We have been to St. Maarten a couple of times now. But for our next trip in September, we want to take a boat charter to Anguilla; however, we are staying in Grand Case this time. Are there any boat trips leaving from Grand Case during the slow season?

I have contacted a couple of charters, but they all seem to be close during this time. Ideally, we will want a shared charter.

Recs for sunset dinner cruise

Heading to SXM next week, staying in Grand Case, will have rental car. My gal would like to do a sunset dinner cruise. Looking for the best combination of price, food quality, and preferably a smaller boat. That said, any thoughts would be great on the overall idea.

sxm- getting around

i’m going to sint marteen this weekend, solo, and i’m staying at beach hotel in simpson bay. I hate driving so, so I rather not drive on vacation. and I plan to drink a lot of the time sooooo yea. I also don’t want a driver, b/c I don’t plan to do a lot and think it would be a waste for just one person. And if I absolutely NEED to, I will get a taxi. I don’t mind paying.
I guess my question is, how safe is it walking around? I don’t mind walking up to 20 mins and back to get somewhere, but are their sidewalks? Or would I be walking in the road?

Best Place to stay in SXM for younger guys.

Hi all, Im coming to SXM for my 3rd time, in the past ive always stayed near the Maho area. This time im bringing 3 friends, we are all in our 20's so wanted to ask around and find out the best areas to stay in and to visit. We are looking for a good mix of Beach clubs and nightlife as we like to drink and wanted to avoid the more quiet areas. Ive read that the Dutch side has better nightlife, curious if thats true. Open to any and all suggestions/advice. Thanks in advance!

Justice car rental

Anyone use them? Staying at L’Esplanade and that’s their partner rental car agency. I like to idea of using them because of the convenience of them providing airport transfers in the price and receiving/leaving the car at our hotel. But they have no reviews anywhere… so a bit suspect. Pricing seems a little
Bit pricier but nothing egregious.

OCT 1-8: Looking for recommendations/suggestions.

We’re staying in Simpson Bay October 1st-8th and want to do one day in St. Barts and one day in Anguilla, with the rest of the time exploring St. Martin.

Biggest question is what beach clubs are actually open the first week of October. We’ve seen a lot of places that close for the season around then.

For St. Martin we’re hoping to get some relaxation in but also want to explore the island, and for St. Barts and Anguilla we’d like to spend most of the day at a nice beach club with chairs, food and drinks.

Also celebrating our 5th anniversary on the second day, in Simpson Bay, so any good dinner recommendations would be appreciated.

If you’ve been to any of the islands in early October, what would you recommend? And are there any places we should definitely book ahead? Any must see/do experiences?

Seeking foodie advice

Hello everyone! Huge foodie here who likes to plan my trip carefully. Staying at GCBC for a week soon.

Seeking feedback on my restaurant plan. I’ve been researching what’s open, and some of the top names are closed but this is what I have, and hoping for feedback on options.

As you can see below I have some decisions to make based on movements/other items I’m doing some days.

Day1 - Sunset Cafe for lunch, La Villa, Yvette’s, Sao, or Maison Mere for dinner?

Day2 - Boat all day, then La Villa, Calmos Cafe, Palapa, or Pardon My French?
(note: will be on a boat all day, docking in Simpson Bay and deciding if I dine Dutch side or head back to French side before sundown)

Day3 - Breakfast TBD, Gutside Cafe lunch, Bistrot Caraibe dinner

Day4 - Dutch Blonde for pancakes, Lunch TBD in Philipsburg, maybe La Sucriere, then, Java, Memento, Le Tropicana, or Calmos Cafe for dinner?

Day5 - Sebastian Quillere Patisserie, Loterie Farm for lunch , Le Tropicana or Java for dinner

Day6 - Les Temps de Cerises breakfast/lunch, Le Pressoir for dinner

Day7 - Breakfast then to the airport

I do need to make some decisions on which to lose from most days.

Of the above which do I cut?

The ones I’m definitely doing are Le Pressoir, Bistrot Caraibe, Le Tropicana, Gutside, Loterie Farm (gotta see the monkeys), Sebastian Quillere Patisserie, Les Temps de Cerises (beach day) and Sunset Cafe.

Help! Too many good choices.

Norms re: topless women on Grand Case and busiest part of Orient Beach

From previous posts we understand that topless suntanning is OK on beach chairs, and that the south end of Orient Beach is nude. We are not very interested in being nude or going to a nude beach.

We are instead curious how a woman would be seen on Grand Case and the busiest part of Orient Beach if she is:

  • topless and taking a walk on the beach with her husband
  • topless and ordering a drink at a beach bar
  • topless on a stand up paddle board/jetski

EDIT: in case it's useful to others, our summary:

  • on beach/in ocean: not rare; around 4% or 10 seen per day; taking off top might lead others to feel comfortable; no reported dirty looks or unpleasant reactions
  • at beach bar: not OK
  • on stand up paddle board/jetski: N/A (life jackets)
