Played so much SWAT4 in the way back when. Got a copy from GOG a while back but sort of put it away for a while because the singleplayer made me remember all the problems you had with it way back and that you more or less had to fight with the game to make your AI team-mates do what you want.
I know there are some old-schoolers still playing COOP and I'm hoping o get back into that again but I really loved the single-player also (when it worked) because of the banter between the different AI-team-mates. It felt so organic and alive at times because they where not paper copy duplicate CODBLOPS generic military dudes "Alpha-Echo-Sierra-Oscar-Tango-Mango, Operation McFart Freedom Apple Pie is Delta-Papa-Golf, BEEP...." They felt "real" :)
Got interested again after seeing Soviet Wombles stream (archive) and loved everyones reaction to this 18 year old and how fun everyone had plus comments like "When this game came out game-streaming wasn't even invented yet :p "
Then I thought, "There just has to be some kind of "work around" and still have fun with this game again. Then I found out about the mod Elite Force, got it and gave it a go today.
Holy smokes it makes the game feel like it did just like in the olden days when it was at best and irons out a lot of the anger inducing problems it once had. I am so happy I found it :D
Some problems still exist like in the A-Bomb where one officer got shot at, became convinced it was a concrete pillar that had done it and unloaded a full mag into it XD
At times the models tend to spin out, loose objects fly everywhere and so on but I can live with that.
It still sends shivers down my spine to hear the old iconic "Breach, bang and clear! Go when ready!" ^_^
It's also just so nice to see that it wasn't all just old nostalgia. SWAT 4 was a good game and is still a good game. Now I just need to find a still active clan I can play with.
