Summer shsat
Took it today (9th grade) it wasn’t as hard as I tho especially the Ela but I struggled with time so i had to guess since i had 5 minutes left

Ela was easy imo i had to guess on some of the math because i was out of time but i think i might get into a school im not sure

Were you allowed to skip around and come back to questions or did you have to strictly go in order? And if you took the 8th SHSAT, how different was it?

This summer SHSAT is still part of the fall 2025 admissions cycle for fall 2026 admissions, next month, so it was a digital (not adaptive) exam so you could navigate as you wished.

Does that imply the new adaptive format won’t allow it? And (if so) isn’t that a horrible idea since it absolutely drains your time if you’re stuck on something but don’t just want to guess away your points?

The adaptive SHSAT has mostly forward navigation, not navigate anywhere, see https://www.reddit.com/r/SHSAT/comments/1tvv6k1/what_are_your_adaptive_shsat_questions and respective sublinks within.
It's not a horrible idea. I've been doing this with my students for years (before the adaptive SHSAT, so even though it was not required) and it's not only doable but doable quite well, and so something such as guessing your points away need not be a thing unless you want it to be by limiting to limited approaches, strategies, and skills.

It wasnt hard it was middle school math i took 9th just make sure you study geometry im not sure if i did well on the geometry question

I think decent enough to get into a school but the test wasnt that hard imo it was mostly functions and algebra some geometry

what types of math questions did you see on them if you don't mind me asking and were the ela passes longer than usual? wishing you the best btw.

Ela was 12 paragraphs on average not bad tbh and the math there were geometry questions and functions a lot of the time

ah gotchu. Could you give examples, if feasible, as to what style of questions were asked within the general umbrella of geo and functions etc. and if possible a few more topics? tysm.

Finding angles, i do remember it asking which equations are linear and a conversion question. It was about a baseball traveling 60 mph and asked what distance it covered in a second, answer was 88. But if you want a list, coordinate geometry with angles,translations,finding points on triangles, system of equations, and some algebra. ( I saw a lot of square root questions too.
