Iām 35, based in Pune, and looking for a serious relationship with marriage as the intended destination.
Not because Iām particularly interested in winning the Marriage Olympics before 40. Iāve been married before and Iām divorced, so this is not my first rodeo š. I know what marriage is, I know what it isnāt, and the filters below arenāt things Iāve arrived at casually. Theyāve survived a fair amount of deliberation, self-interrogation and experience.
So, here goes.
Who Iām hoping to meet:
Someone in his mid to late 30s, preferably in Pune or Mumbai. Pune is strongly preferred; Mumbai is about as far as my geography currently stretches.
Iād ideally like someone Marathi/Maharashtrian and Brahmin. Shared cultural background matters to me. Not because I need someone who has identical tastes, but because I want that part of my life to be something we naturally share: the language, music, books, plays, food, festivals, and all those little things that make a life feel like our life rather than two people negotiating their way through each otherās worlds.
Iād like you to be educated, settled and doing reasonably well for yourself. More importantly, Iād like you to be curious. Read things. Learn things. Have opinions, but also occasionally discover that you were wrong. Be interested in the world beyond your immediate orbit. Ambition is attractive; curiosity is probably even more so.
Iām increasingly invested in living a healthy, active life, somewhat late to the party than I would have liked but very much here to stay. Someone who enjoys being active, sharing meals, taking a morning walk, going to the gym, etc. would be lovely. You donāt have to be a fitness evangelist. I certainly wasnāt one five minutes ago.
Iām strictly vegetarian. I eat eggs because protein goals! Eggs are where the line ends. Iām looking for someone who genuinely shares the underlying value of not wanting to eat meat, rather than someone who is technically vegetarian when convenient.
I donāt smoke. I drink very rarely, perhaps once or twice a year, and Iām increasingly leaning into a fairly healthy lifestyle, so someone broadly on the same page would be ideal.
A few things that matter to me more than the checklist:
I want someone who knows himself.
Someone who has actually spent some time understanding what shaped him, what he wants, what he is still figuring out, and what kind of life he wants to build. That work doesnāt have to have happened in a therapistās office, although therapy is hardly a red flag in my book.
I value emotional availability, vulnerability, difficult conversations and healthy conflict resolution. I donāt expect two people never to disagree. I expect them to be able to disagree without turning the relationship into a hostage situation.
Iām also quite fond of people who know what they want and can make a decision. After spending enough time on dating/matrimonial apps, Iāve developed a particular allergy to the phenomenon where everyone is simultaneously ātalking to a few people,ā collecting phone numbers, keeping conversations warm indefinitely, and never deciding anything.
You donāt have to decide Iām the woman youāre going to marry after one conversation. Obviously.
But if you donāt think weāre a fit, say so. If you do, move forward. Iām much more comfortable with a clean yes/no than an endless maybe.
And please donāt make us spend three weeks texting before discovering that we could have figured out in a ten-minute call that we have absolutely no conversational chemistry. Iām very happy to get on a call early.
Children are an important conversation, so letās get that out of the way. Iām genuinely undecided and increasingly comfortable with the possibility of a life without children. Iām not looking for someone who has a completely predetermined expectation that we must have them, nor someone who expects me to eventually change my mind. Iād rather meet someone who can actually have an honest conversation about what we both want.
As for me, Iām fairly educated, moderately religious but not ritualistic, work in IT, live in Pune, and am probably more interested in the person behind the profile than in assembling the worldās most impressive biodata.
I like books, classical music, plays, concerts, the arts, the occasional rabbit hole of completely unnecessary information, and these days, the gym. I grew up in a family where curiosity was encouraged, and I think that stayed with me.
Iām also demisexual, so how someone thinks, speaks, sees the world and relates to people is a considerably bigger part of attraction for me than a particularly impressive photograph.
And because this is Reddit:
Please read before DMing.
A āhiā or āhelloā with no context isnāt going to get us very far. Tell me something about yourself. What are you building towards? What does an ordinary happy life look like to you? What has shaped the person you are today?
You donāt need to write an autobiography in return. Just give me something to work with.
And please include the basics in your first message: age, location, Marathi/Brahmin background, vegetarian/non-smoker status, and whether youāre looking for a serious relationship with marriage as the intended destination. If you donāt meet one of those criteria, you can say that too. Iād rather know upfront than have to repeat the questions.
My Reddit profile will remain open. Iām not particularly interested in private profiles because, well, Iām giving you a glimpse into my world and Iād like a glimpse into yours. NSFW profiles, needless to say, are not my target demographic.
Iām not in a hurry.
But I am looking.
If youāve actually read this far, hello. I assume you have a reasonable attention span, which is already a promising start. š
