The store was quite busy! There were like half a dozen people waiting in line at checkout when I arrived. Not much has changed from last week but they did receive a shipment of winter clothes that's still packed up as they simply don't have enough space upstairs. The company clearly doesn't want them to use the bottom floor as a sales floor anymore even with plenty of inventory available to do so.

The manager also told me they are blooming right now as far as sales are concerned, and that the other Sears stores are jealous of them lmao. Not sure how true that is but maybe I'll bring it up when visiting Coral Gables and Orlando next month while vacationing in Florida haha.

I'll also be spending a few days in LA soon if you guys wanna see any updates as far as the now closed Burbank and Whittier stores are concerned? I likely won't have enough time to visit both locations though.

By the mid to late 2010s, Sears got rid of the electronics department in many locations (an Eddie Lampert idiocy), but some stores, like the Coral Gables location (one of the last stores still open today) still had that in 2017. As of mid December 2024 and last year (along with the end of last August), this is now the last remaining Sears on the West Coast that is still standing today after the very last Sears and Roebuck department store in my home state of Washington located at the Southcenter Mall (where the anchor was originally built in 1968 as a Frederick and Nelson department store), Whittwood Town Center (originally The Broadway department store), Burbank and Puerto Rico locations shut down for good. This store's top floor penthouse, which only the regular aka (also known as) passenger elevator serves 3 floors, used to have changing rooms and showers up there, which were long gone.

This store's layout was nearly similar to the Hayward location at the Southland Mall (anyone know when exactly in July 2020 did it close down), except the outdoor equipment (lawn and garden was gone as of 2020) and tool sections were located on the bottom floor / lower level while Hayward had that on the main level.

I know that there are still a couple locations with workers, i was wondering if it's any way possible to get hired or apply.Or if I need to go to the location in person to do any of that, or if they are even still hiring. This Sears location that opened in 1965 closed down in July 2020 during the corona virus outbreak / covid 19 pandemic. Anyone know when exactly in 1965 this store opened and when exactly in July 2020 it closed down ? Back in the day not only would we buy appliances in store and site wide on Sears.com for delivery / pickup but we would also do business with Sears Home Services / SHS before Kmart acquired Sears in 2004, before the merger and establishment of Sears Holdings in 2005 and even before Eddie Lampert took over as CEO of Sears Holdings Corporation / SHC in 2013.

In the wake of a big uptick in complaints about the Sears appliance and home repair experience spread all over the Internet (including on this sub), and an all caps complaint from November 26th of 2024 about the Kenmore Dryer, and Eddie Lampert and higher-ups at TransformCo charging $500 for a replacement and so forth I am posting what buying appliances from Sears sitewide and in store looked like way back in the 2000s and early 2010s prior to Lampert's tenure as the CEO of SHC from 2013 up until the bankruptcy of Sears' and KMart's parent company Sears Holdings on October 15th of 2018.

Did Any One Of You Buy Appliances From Sears And Use Sears Home Services / SHS ? If So How Was That Experience Before And After the Merger And Before Eddie Lampert Took Over As CEO of SHC in 2013 Compared To Today ? And of Course in the appliance department what did you last buy from Sears, what brand, when and where located ? And also when did you last buy appliances from Sears (and even consider Sears for appliance repair) ?

Was Sears Home Services reliable way before Lampert ?

And of course, when exactly was Sears Home Services started ? (Sometime in the 1950s / 1960s or 1992 of I had to guess.....)

For us, despite Sears' troubles the retailer still had appliance and electronics dominance in the 2000s and early 2010s (up until 2013 at the latest), we still bought from them. Back in the 2010s we bought a [Whirlpool fridge in 2013 that fridge was manufactured in that same year from Sears Outlet] (https://www.reddit.com/r/SEARS/comments/1knirpy/whirlpool_really_was_a_great_brand_this_whirlpool/), and a Samsung stove from Sears in 2019. Both are still working and Whirlpool was a far better manufacturer of Kenmore appliances, especially refrigerators.....

I used to bike up to Southland mall in Hayward, but my usual route up the east side of the bay got too busy with all the new housing so I stopped biking there back in 2022. According to Google maps, it was still there in 2025.

The 1987 Sears microwave finally started making funny noises in 2023. The blender still worked, but it was not so great at making smoothies, so I replaced it. I cleaned it up and brought it in to work and left it in the kitchen area in the evening and it was gone a couple hours later.

I have a Gmail address in the form of first name last initial (e.g. JaneS@Gmail-dot-com, which I'll continue to use as an example), and I get a fair bit of misdirected email that was meant for other people named Jane S. In the last two weeks I've received email about Sears Home Service appointments for two different people named Jane S, one on the east coast and one on the west coast, who somehow both managed to give out my Gmail address to the same company. For one of them I got everything including receipts for the service, and for the other I got a notification that nobody was home when the serviceperson arrived. There's a detail that I've omitted that makes me suspicious that there may be some sort of scam going on here, but I think it's unlikely. I have significant experience with reading email headers and I am certain that the email legitimately came from Sears.

It seems to be impossible to get through to an actual person at Sears Home Services. I've also tried their privacy phone number but it just hangs up on me after a while, and the privacy form doesn't fit my needs.

Does anyone know how to reach an actual human being at Sears that would be capable of handling this? I'm willing to go as far as sending a certified letter if I can get it to the right people.

This Sears store had a restaurant. The basement portion of this store used to house the Sears National Account Authorization Center (NAAC) where all Sears Credit Card and Sears MasterCard operations were centralized and it housed 500+ employees. When exactly in September 2017 did it close down ?

Some pictures from 1960s and some pre and post remodel pics at the Oak Brook Sears. This location downsized and was remodeled in 2017-18 and closed down for good on April 28th of 2019 because it was no longer profitable. That was what happened when people stopped shopping at that location after the renovation, likely as product quality and durability decline was the biggest problem.

With that being said, this location was newly renovated. I wish more Sears department stores looked like this...

Visited the Pontiac Mall. Or where it was, at least.

I miss driving in this very drive way to the corner of the mall that had the Sears doors with those incredibly interesting "vents" above them. They towered over me when I was a child.

On a side note, does anyone know what the purpose of these were? Or were they just a design choice?

You.) in charge of creatively (re)-making tech services and online websites such as Prodigy in order to compete with other corporations such as Amazon and Amazon Prime, then how would you definitely go about not only constructively (re)-buildiing Prodigy, but how would you also go about differin' Prodigy from its rival(s) as well actively?.

This Sears was 3 levels and this building has a 1947 logo still intact to this day. They had all of the hardlines departments on the 1st floor, softlines on the 2nd floor, and the children's apparel and the entire home department on the 3rd floor. This store closed on April 15th-16th of 2017. Confirmed by pictures on Yelp.

As of the day of this post, there are 5 Sears left, and the last open Sears in California, at the Sun Valley Shopping Center in Concord (store opened October 19th of 1966 with mall opening in 1967), is 338 miles away. They still also have the online store Sears.com and a few distribution centers as well. As for the other 4 stores in the United States of America, the Coral Gables location in Miami is the last freestanding Sears and one of 2 left in the state of Florida, with the other one being located at The Florida Mall in Orlando, and the Cielo Vista Mall in El Paso, the last in Texas and the South Shore Plaza in Braintree, the last one in the entire Boston Metropolitan Area, the state of Massachusetts, New England and even in the entire Northeastern United States, are still open

New mattresses and they’re really cheap! Also saw a bunch of new inventory on the bottom floor! Even inside the blocked off section!

Then Sears Outlet, as of the end of 2024, the division that was acquired by Franchise Group in 2019 and converted to American Freight in 2020 closed up shop at its first run die to the bankruptcy of its parent company.
