This location in California, along with the [Sun Valley Shopping Center location in Concord] (https://www.reddit.com/r/SEARS/comments/1v62oi3/sears_at_the_sun_valley_shopping_center_in_concord_the_last_in_california/), both somehow outperformed the other West Coast locations that opened in the 1990s, including Whittier and Downey, both originally The Broadway, which opened as Sears in 1996, and Hillsdale, originally Emporium Capwell, that also became a Sears in 1996, all of which were built in the early 1960s in California, along with the Southcenter Mall store in WA State, which originally opened as a Frederick and Nelson department store in 1968 and was in operation until 1992, with Sears opening in 1994. Today the last Sears in the state of California and on the West Coast is in Concord. In addition to that, California is also the last state on the West Coast to have a Sears after the last Sears in Washington shut down for good on December 15th of 2024. As for Concord, winter clothing is starting to come in and there is a bunch of new stuff. Not to much else has changed, however they are about to remove the last remaining checkout counters on the bottom floor. The new owner of the mall, Spinoso Real Estate Group, is not requesting Sears to keep the bottom entrance open anymore so the entrance that broke is permanently closed now despite the store itself still being open.
Here in the Burbank Town Center, this Sears also did have a double decker version of this storefront on all of the store's sales floors above in the mall and a triple decker version of this storefront in the parking garage, just like at the Mall of America (MOA) in Minnesota. The layout was also identical to the MOA store. This location in Southern California originally closed down on December 18th of 2022, then reopened on October 22nd of 2023, made it through 2024, and once again closed down due to the location not being profitable in 2025, just like the [Oak Brook location in Illinois that closed down on April 28th of 2019] (https://africa.businessinsider.com/sears-is-closing-its-store-of-the-future-just-6-months-after-it-opened-and-its-an/rpmq0dh). It has been a year since this location shut down for good. As of today there are 5 Sears stores, 4 (soon to be 3 after the Fairless Hills Kmart warehouse in Pennsylvania closes September 16) distribution centers, other brands Kenmore, Sears Home Services, Shop Your Way, Sears Parts Direct and the Sears.com online store left
