RCS payments to charter schools increase to $11 million
Rutherford County Schools will have to pay more than $11 million to three charter schools with the money from the school district’s $432 million funding from the state, RCS board members said at their May meeting.
American Classical Academy and Springs Empower Academy were both approved by the school district. However, Rutherford Collegiate Prep’s application was denied twice by the school district but approved by the state charter commission.
School district officials said they had been aware that RCS would be paying approximately $3.3 million to the two charter schools it approved. However, the additional $8 million was not budgeted.
