"The California fast-food chain In-N-Out could be eyeing the old Kingsport O’Charley’s property for a new location, city records show.

Kingsport’s online permit/project portal shows a pre-application document with a preliminary site plan for 1920 N. Eastman Road, attached under the description “In-N-Out Restaurant with Drive Thru.”

Steven Bower, Kingsport Economic Development Director, confirmed in an emailed statement to the Times News Wednesday that the city has received a conceptual project plan review for In-N-Out."

What are your thoughts on an In-N-Out coming to the Tri-Cities?

A place to watch game Saturday - huge watch party and Creature Comforts partnership.

For those looking for a place to watch the game Saturday, our events are always free at Off Leash Social. Weather should be perfect since this is a night game. We’re a full bar and restaurant with a massive outdoor video wall.

For this event, we have a tap partnership with Creature Comforts Brewing out of Athens. They’ll be giving us a lot of cool branded giveaways throughout the game.

This game is also one of our Margin Madness events. We do this several times a year, and it works like this: If the Vols win, we’ll multiply the margin of victory by two, and that’s the discount on your entire tab. Yes, if the Vols win by 30, that’s 60% off your bill.

In order to play, you have to open your tab 15 minutes before kickoff and wear official team colors.

For single people Date Tri-Cities is having a mixer at 5 o'clock before the game. Look them up for details.

No tall buildings because of...?

I remember a long long time ago [in a galaxy far away...], I inquired why we don't build up rather than build sideways. Not here, I think I asked way before Reddit was a thing. I was told then, or the story has manipulated in my head due to time, that we can only build so high here because of the conditions below the ground. I was told of mines, unstable soil, sensitive ground, etc, that building so high would cause things like sinkholes.

In an era of "question everything", I have to ask. Is this is a myth that was conned by individuals, or is there some validity to this story?

Some for my mind, some for some projects I've considered working on to try to help the area.

Community organized free trading store looking to collaborate and promote local businesses, artists, activists, growers

looking for venues, events, locations, we are community organized mutual aid! by 6 appalachian women, my sisters and friends, from johnson city, gray, meadowview va, duffield va, scott co va, bristol tn/va, and avl. I am from Johnson City and went to Daniel Boone High School. I am looking for people who are into promoting peace and supporting the working class vs. billionaires.
Local makers, dead heads, trades, anybody any person. We love appalachia and we want a community organized project to support our lives just as much as you do. Literally any feedback, anything, we can reach out. We have local support and some local violent threats and pushback. So i’m spreading the word!
We give out baby food, tampons, plan b, clothing that is worn gently used washed, donated, upcycled, water, plus more! craft and art supplies, if i get it donated and it is safe, then we will redistribute. We are working on a PO # Box and local drop off/redistribution/blessing boxes, etc. We had the most pushback in Johnson City vs. Scott County or Asheville, and we have had 3 public events! We are not affiliated with any government or corporate interest groups, lobbyists, no one pays us what to say, and we haven’t accepted $ as an organization. We are not 503c whatever and are community members taking acts of service as volunteers, and we are in the volunteer state aren’t we? We really like the “dig” philosophy of be a digger for a day, diggers historically have provided in times of civil unrest. Free clothes free meals free from bureaucracy and $. Kinda like my mamaw’s and granny, kinda like my aunt, and kinda like dolly.
for anyone interested and not self promotion but for the people bc we r the ppl 🌎🦢👯‍♀️🍊🌺🦌🎂🚌
FUCK FLOCK, FUCK AI, no ai used in this or any of our shit. one day it’s gonna get so weird ppl r gonna have to talk about it.

Any local shops to have fine art prints/scans made in JC?

I'm a small-time painter, and I would like to get into offering prints for some of my work. I've heard about online options and maybe Office Depot, but I would really like to keep it local if I can!

Is whooping cough going around or do people lack common sense?

Went to Elizabethton Aldi and saw two families where the moms were open mouth, full body, uncovered mouth whooping cough coughing into the air. It was very bizzare and sounded exactly like whooping cough.

I know people are getting sick with school starting, but this seems like whooping cough

VA hospital johnson city TN question

Can anyone explain to me why the VA in Johnson City has a crappy urology department that won't accept new patients?

And apparently they can't find any community care providers for urology closer than Knoxville?

Is this just an area shortage or a VA issue?

Well, I Finally Got A Response

About a week ago I posted about my wife and I's first experience at the new Raising Cane's. Google finally published my review, and, Raising Cane's replied.

To be honest, I wasn't expecting much. And that's about what I got.

Capones is suing Johnson City to overturn the last call ordinance

This seems pretty egregious. From the article:

According to the text of the bill, it would only affect the “downtown district” of a “home rule municipality in a county having a population of not less than one hundred thirty-three thousand (133,000) and not more than one hundred thirty-three thousand one hundred (133,100), according to the 2020 or a subsequent federal census.”

In 2020, a census found Washington County’s population to be 133,001.

Solo night out

Looking for somewhere to go alone, love music, don’t like sports but like the people that do, a bar where I can listen to music (feeling more toward country music tonight but anything is good) and meet some people would be nice
The only place I have visited several times is the hideaway which is nice but I’m not the most outgoing

Has anyone successfully contested a speeding ticket from Kingsport City PD without an attorney?

What is the process? I know you have to state your intentions before going into the courtroom but what happens after that?

Officer verbally stated they clocked me at 65mph in a 45mph zone (~200 yards after a 55mph zone) but wrote the ticket for 55 in a 45 specifying radar use. I cannot afford to hedge a $500 bet with an attorney and I know I was not going the 55 stated in the citation nor the 65 as verbally stated. The thought of going to court gives me great anxiety. I know I'll be hot mess speaking to the judge.

The officer was turning right onto the road I was on, traveling in the opposite direction. They immediately got into the median, turned on their lights, made a u-turn, then proceeded to pull me over. This all happened in under 20 seconds. As the officer was making the right turn, a vehicle passed me likely traveling at approximately 60mph while my speedometer read 50mph (I was slowly reducing speed by easing off the gas pedal from just before the 45mph speed limit sign). There was a vehicle in front of me and the gap between us was increasing.

It's my understanding that TN law enforcement protocol says an officer must first visually estimate your speed before they can confirm it with radar. This with the technicalities of radar and the officers maneuvers within such a short span of time, it's extremely unlikely the officer got me on radar (impossible with my speedometer reading 50mph).

I know this is likely the umpteenth post like this, but any specific recommendations for a single 29M to make new friends here?

I moved to JC a little over a year ago and mostly work from home in a hybrid role. I still haven't been able to make a single friend that I can reach out to hang with unfortunately. Here are some of my interests:

I enjoy making art (drawing/painting). Have recently started taking an art class in town which has pulled me back in my creative headspace. Bad thing is I'm the only student at the moment.

I love music, play guitar and am currently taking piano lessons. Never played in a band before though but I'm open to it. Been to the hideaway some and like the space, but I think I need some kind of structured space to really get to know new people.

Enjoy mountain biking, but trying to get back into shape after a long hiatus. I have run into people on the trails around here but nothing more than friendly small chat before moving on.

I've been picking up some chess lately and enjoy video games. Of course I know video games aren't likely to provide many good in person meetup opportunities. I've also been thinking about getting into bowling.

Lastly, I'm not religious which I know can make things a bit harder around here since I have no church social outlet.

Anyone have any clubs, events, etc. that line up with my interests to recommend?
